Continuation of Thread 3.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

Basically a stream of obfuscatory sciencified wordery for the masturbatory pseudo intellectual glorification of the hyper-privileged virtue-signalling

@Kucinghitam That is a glorious sentence.

I think I've seen this before @Boiledbeetle rereading it though 🤔 the comments at the end. The parent seems to see themselves as some kind of martyr, 'I'm so saintly, such a special parent, having a trans child is so hard.' I don't hold out much hope for that kid. She might even have had her mastectomy by now.

I fully believe that's the real problem - parents getting into it to show how tolerant and open minded and loving and involved they are rather than stepping back and letting kids go through a phase. How are kids who change their minds going to step back if their parents are creating a whole Super Parent identity around supporting transition?

So sad, reading that. That poor kid.

Ugh! This again

That UnScientificAmerica article.

I suspect it's the piece with most engagement, the most discussed, that he's ever published. It doesn't matter if most people were disagreeing (assuming they were). It got attention. That probably goes for the magazine too.

Ooh, 24,000 words on it next year! I can hardly contain my indifference.

I attempted to read the Twitter thread. Basically a stream of obfuscatory sciencified wordery for the masturbatory pseudo intellectual glorification of the hyper-privileged virtue-signalling Good People club. The TL:DR version of the thread is "Unfortunately I can't magic up a spectrum of gametes, so I'm going to say that because every person is different and unique, therefore this makes sex a spectrum of impossible-to-identify individuals." It'll be a source of sheer delight to TRSOHers, at least until they move their goalposts again.

Sal Grover commented on that tweet saying that, for an article claiming that sex isn't binary, they couldn't have chosen a more binary image if they'd tried.

Oh yeah! Hadn't focused on the image at all, but she's right.

Probably these things do float around for a long time. But I've wondered for a while how these kids that have to have liquid paracetamol as they can't swallow tablets, and go all squeamish at needles are ever going to be able to come to terms with the lifelong medication and possible further surgeries.

If my hypothetical kid was in that much distress over a medication they didn't need I'd just stop it and take them home.

This isn't coming from the children. It's the bloody parents pushing these children down this route.

This is so so wrong. It's child abuse. And if her daughter can't even cope with getting a bloody injection with numbing cream how is she going to cope in a few years when they cut her breasts off and remove her reproductive organs?

Ah, I see it's a parody. It's hard to know what's real these days!

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/05/2023 13:20

Surely that can't be real, can it? 😂

Boiledbeetle · 03/05/2023 13:15

It's getting so hard to tell which clips are satire these days!

Shitting hell.

Turns out on further reading it appears to have been in print for years.

I'm just gobsmacked with this one. At least the ones aimed at older teenage children are somewhat understandable as to why someone might think they are a good idea.

But this it's just child grooming pure and simple.

And that it's a sign that children are going to transition rather than a sign that they're being abused or at best not being taught that other people's private parts aren't for touching.

Boiledbeetle · 03/05/2023 11:05

StephanieSuperpowers · 03/05/2023 10:38

That's just shocking. How does something like that go through the levels of review necessary to get published?

Talk about teaching them young that anyone can play with someone else's private parts and It's just fine and dandy.

IcakethereforeIam · 03/05/2023 10:52

The State Media posted a YouTube yesterday of the top 5 inspirational trans people. From memory

5 Laverne Cox
4 Caitlin Jenner
3 Eddie Izzard
2 that woman who was in the thing...you know...umbrellas....?
1 Ed Gein 😲

That book.should be compulsory in schools.

I think what's happening is essentially a multi-pronged approach to changing public opinion. When one "argument" (and I'm using the word argument VERY loosely) fails, they simply switch to another, even to another argument that is the opposite of the first

This reminds me a little of the chapter "The Dragon in My Garage" in Carl Sagan's The Demon-Haunted World. It describes the kind of contortions that a believer in crystal woo will go through to paper over the inconsistencies in their beliefs.
