If you listened to Any Questions last night, or catch the repeat after lunch today, you might have doubts about the BBC reconsidering.

The programme came from Scotland and even the BBC couldn't escape from THAT question, so the version they went for (I'd imagine they would have had a choice from among a number submitted by the audience) was rather indirect, along the lines of: has the trans row damaged the campaign for independence.

The answers were:

Fiona Hyslop SNP MSP - Tories brought us Brexit, and Brexit is bad

Angela Haggerty (genderist journalist) - there are more important issues

Michael Marra Labour MSP - people are not interested in this stuff

Murdo Fraser Tory MSP - he was filling in the details, talking about the real world impact, eg rapists in women's prisons, and he was strongly shut down by the host Alex Forsyth on the basis that what he was talking about had been discussed on previous programmes and would be discussed on future programmes.

I think that there's a soft fight-back in support of gender identity ideology going on at the BBC following a series of losses of ideology encountering reality and coming off quite badly.

As part of the BBC World at One today they ran an item about how trans activists are trying to get people to boycott new Hogwarts Legacy game released today.

I presume that was the same clip I heard at about 11.30. It was a weird thing to have on.

It was a clip from a longer piece they did on Today and I think they ran it on every bulletin after. Like it was a headline story.

After Evan Davis had to apologise, you would have thought they may have reconsidered. I can't imagine how awful it must be for JKR to have her name smeared over and over again by our state broadcaster

thanks, I only posted here because it was more about BBC manipulation. Although it seems most of the media today have gone with it as being a story about JKR's "transphobia" rather than the huge sales it has already had, and what seem like really positive reviews.

the media is so servile.

Happylittlechicken · 10/02/2023 20:44

Not Margie!!? Noooooooo 😂😂😂😂

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 10/02/2023 17:56

KatMcBundleFace · 10/02/2023 16:38

I mean the boycott is backfiring wonderfully and a whole new group of people get to hear how unreasonable trans activists are.

They should be mentioning how fast the game is actually selling though.

It really is a spectacular backfire!

It’s a combo of actual gaming chat and eating popcorn 🍿 while we spectate the trans house of cards collapse in real time.

Also, last night we caught Margie PIE ‘doing a transphobia’ as Cursed E phrased it last week, so that’s worth a look.

Just tagging on the end of this thread.

As part of the BBC World at One today they ran an item about how trans activists are trying to get people to boycott new Hogwarts Legacy game released today.

No mention of the fact that it is the fastest selling game.

So despite sorry not really sorry the influence of the trans watchdogs at the BBC seem to still be in effect.

I'm going to escalate my complaint as the response has been "we didn't mean it" even though it was pre-recorded.

I think it's worth writing to Feedback as well as the complaints dept. Make it clear the issue is a pattern of behaviour within the BBC, not just a single interview.

crunchermuncher · 10/02/2023 17:24

I hope all these hard of thinking wankers hand wringing over buying this game also refuse to watch films directed by Harvey Weinstein. On account of him having being an actual convicted rapist. Or kick up as much fuss about banking with companies that invest in arms, tobacco, etc.

No, didn't think so 🙄

Women are being socially punished for their (totally reasonable) words while men are not for their actions.

There was a nano-apology at 17.44 by Evan Davis. Blink and you missed it.

Wasn't an apology, it was an acknowledgement that complaints had been received then a clumsy segue into an interview with a detransitioner and her mother.

So, sadly, we will all have to keep on waiting to find out what JKR actually said that was so transphobic or even transphobic at all.

Speakingofdinosaurs · 06/02/2023 19:59

I complained too and this was the response

Radio 4 PM Gamers discuss boycotting JKR
ExiledElsie · 06/02/2023 19:40

I've had the standard response, obviously it didn't answer the questions I put. To be honest it compounded the problem. How could they possibly justify trying to discuss people boycotting JKR without mentioning her views without implicitly condoning the idea that this was justified?

I will find out how to escalate.

AmigoDogs · 06/02/2023 18:10

It was a 'we could have done better, we've talked to trans people and now we are going to talk to a detransitioner but Evan can't bring himself to talk to an actual woman about this" type moment.

comfortablylesslumpy · 06/02/2023 18:07

It was hardly detectable. Was it really an apology?

Good interview afterwards though.

Boiledeggandtoast · 06/02/2023 12:41

The Sunday Times also had a column on another page reporting that "The BBC has apologised for not challenging a guest who said JK Rowling promoted "transphobia" and that the Harry Potter author used her platform to campaign against trans people.", and identifies that it was Evan Davis who hosted the discussion.

ILikeDungs · 06/02/2023 12:27

Sunday Times have noticed the Davis bias:

"Trans campaign groups such as these have sought to undermine the reality of biology and women’s rights without public discussion. They have done so by exploiting the weak-mindedness of public institutions and encouraging a self- censoring groupthink to flourish in organisations such as the BBC, whose presenter Evan Davis failed to challenge a trans woman who branded JK Rowling transphobic on Radio 4 on Thursday. The same groupthink very nearly won out in the Scottish parliament. Labour must ask itself searching questions over the fact that its MSPs sought amendments to the bill, failed to get them and then voted for it anyway. The shadow cabinet’s widespread inability to define what a woman is suggests that the problem is not confined to north of the border."

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 06/02/2023 10:57

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/02/2023 18:08

I imagine people are buying multiple copies as gifts for family and friends, Marg.

Thats certainly what i do

people get harry potter or strike depending on age

i bought a number of the ickabod books a few Christmas’ ago 😀

CryInToYourCornflakesNicola · 06/02/2023 10:53

MargaritaPie · 03/02/2023 14:12

It's £50 a copy, you must be in a very fortunate position to waste a couple hundred pounds at a time when lots of people are struggling to eat or pay bills.

Even if LGBT-supportive people do want to play this game, maybe it will be shared around on torrents or the pirate bay.

This is a new low for you Maggie.

It's not your concern what women spend their own money on.

nauticant · 06/02/2023 10:47

For anyone looking at the BBC and wondering what happened, there's a parallel in the US with NPR. Peter Boghossian made a series on youtube about this and it's a very interesting watch:

An easy entry point is the amusing dinosaur emoji episode:

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 06/02/2023 10:34

I cancelled mine last year. Did it online, got a bit of a refund on what I had paid as I used to pay for the year. Don't miss it; I have Netflix, Amazon and Disney plus so I've loads to watch. I used YouTube for watching the Remembrance Sunday parade live, that's the only time I would have otherwise watched live TV. A little bit gutted to miss watching the latest Strike adaptation but I got over it.

I was expecting a lot of "you don't have a TV licence!!" letters but actually haven't had any.

I don't use BBC news as a source at all anymore either. Switched to Sky News website and a sub to The Times.

I don't miss the BBC at all. Which is a shame, as I really do believe in the idea of a independent, unbiased national news service - but the BBC has strayed too far away from that now.

lechiffre55 · 06/02/2023 09:54

You know if you are sick of the BBC bias that there's something you can do that REALLY hurts them right?
Stop paying for the TV license. That money goes directly to supporting the BBC. Just stop paying them your money which they use to make propaganda against you.
If you want to stop paying you may not watch or record any live broadcast TV on any channel on any device in your home. You also may not use the BBC iPlayer service in any way.
If you want to try and make the process smoother you can formally let them know that you don't need a TV license any more, but it doesn't make much difference, and you are under no legal obligation to do so.

What you CAN'T do if you don't have a TV license:
You can't watch or record BBC or any other live broadcast TV on ANY channel. e.g. ITV
You can't watch or record live TV on say Sky because that's live broadcast TV. Even though you pay for Sky, it's still live broadcast so you need a TV license.
You can't watch BBC iPlayer under any circumstance.

What you CAN do if you don't have a TV license:
Watch on demand shows and movies on any service like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Now TV ( but NOT iPlayer ). Basically any streaming service where the show doesn't have a schedule, and it starts when you click play. You may NOT watch live broadcasts on these services.
Also videos on the internet like you tube are fine. As long as they are not being broadcast live. So for instance you couldn't watch KJK broacast her protests while they were streaming live, but once the stream has stopped you can now watch it becuase it's no longer live. Watch the day after if you really want to cover your butt.
You can listen to the radio including BBC stations without a TV license.
You can visit the BBC website to say read the news or look at the weather forecast. You just can's use BBC iPlayer website.

What will happen if you do this:
The BBC sub contracts to companies like Crapita to go after TV license non payers. They take the attitude everyone needs a TV license - an assumption of guilt which seems contrary to the legal assumption of innocence.
They will send you no end of stupid threating letters. I get at least one every month. These letters escallate in how urgent and scary they are borderline threatening you will all sorts of consequences. The truth is they are just trying to scare you into paying up. You can safely ignore them. Every so often the letters get to the end of the scary track and reset back to the beginning again. I have a stack a foot tall of these bloody things.
When the electric or gas man comes to read the meter they will pay attention to if you have a TV on watching live TV. They also do the TV licensing, so if they see you watching TV they will come back with their TV licensing badge another time and they will know you have been watching live TV. Don't cheat. They will have you.

Do not cheat. Do not cancel your TV license and then watch TV. Make a stand for your rights and stick to it. It's surprisingly easy to get over. When we cancelled it took me 3 days to get over the TV not being on anymore. There's a huge variety of legal alternatives out there. You'll no longer be paying the BBC money to waste on propaganda. Choose to make a stand and do it properly. You'll discover how many amazing and legal alternatives there are to the BBC. Your own money won't be used against you any more. Help get rid of their bias. The amount of people already not paying the license fee is a huge problem for the BBC. Every single person who cancels the TV license is making a huge difference. That's 3 Harry Potter games worth of fuck you to the BBC bias. Vote with your wallet.
