Continuation of Thread 2.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

I'd go further and say that they have totally let down the L by being part of the groups that tell young women that the feelings they have must mean that they're a man when we know that a large number, the majority of young FTM would go on to be simply lesbians if medicalisation of their very real mental health issues were dealt with correctly.

Purely anecdotally, the FTM I know well enough say that they are actually gay men, as they are attracted to men but ARE men (their view, not mine). The last local pride event my son went to with a friend of his (FTM) and a bunch of the friend’s mates from college - also mostly FTM. Son is gay, and complained too me afterwards how annoying he found it that they were all behaving as if they had the smallest clue what it’s like growing up as an out gay boy (he came out early in year 8).

Needless to say he only talks about his gender critical views to me, wouldn’t dare to any friends.

I read somewhere, may even have been here but possibly an article in a publication that I can no longer remember and when I was reading I had a lightbulb moment of "Of course! Yes, you're right!" it was about Stonewall and how full of T they've become in the last decade.

The position was that Stonewall was on the verge of redundancy because we have come so bloody far with gay rights - thankfully - so what was there for them to fight for any longer. Personally, I'd love to be part of an organisation that lobbied and lobbied and fought hard and got nearly everything that we needed making me redundant. It would mean I'd succeeded and that people's lives were better because of that.

Show me a charity that says, it's all done now. Nothing further to do. Thanks for all the funds and the support and we're off... never EVER happens!

Clearly, Stonewall decided that they needed another project and along came trans rights and they lapped that shit up. They should really have the courage to acknowledge that they no longer stand for the LGB and that it's all about the T. I'd go further and say that they have totally let down the L by being part of the groups that tell young women that the feelings they have must mean that they're a man when we know that a large number, the majority of young FTM would go on to be simply lesbians if medicalisation of their very real mental health issues were dealt with correctly.

It's a business, not a charity. I read somewhere that what starts as a charity, becomes a business, ends up as a racket. I've worked for several charities and they always always say Things Are Getting Much Worse. GIVE US YOUR FOOKING MONEY!!! They run surveys to prove How Much Worse Things Are Getting and get good press off it. No one wants a story saying how much better things are!

Charities are a £££ business. It's all about the money with many of them. Some smaller ones may remain committed to the cause but once they get past a certain size it becomes about income, jobs, status. They have CEOs - when did THAT happen!?

duc748 · 08/02/2023 12:02

Dispicable. That's the word. When it's spelt right, anyway. 🙄

Looks like Police Scotland are starting to rebel by referring to him as a man, rather than a woman -

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/02/07/scottish-police-defy-nicola-sturgeon-trans-self-id-law/

A more cynical suggestion on the Twitters last night was that they might try just calling all of these offenders men for a while to deflect attention from Sturgeon not knowing whether or not they're faking it.

Though I am not sure for how long either side would let that go unchallenged....

Back to the Epsom College murders. I can't shake off the comment made by a former (female) colleague of Emma Pattison who said "As a woman no matter how successful you are, you are only as safe as your male partner allows you to be". It made my blood run cold.

God, that is chilling.

Indeed. The Radical Notion thread, and the Discussion of the Radical Notion Thread thread are both interesting and depressing.

God, having to look to the Torygraph for the truth, after all the shit they've sold us, Boris Johnson and Brexit for a start. But it doesn't mean they are wrong here, and makes the cowardice of most of the 'liberal' press all the more discipable.

Exactly.

And then to get scolded for "Bad Media etc" by the Righteous, if you attempted to discuss it.

Pink News can fuck right off as well.

I'm terribly sweary in these wee small hours.

I don't get this, the offence was reported in October 2019, but he's only just been charged. The Met., again!

Is it the new broom? If Cressida was still there would anything have been done?

There's something on WOS, that thing that never happens may have happened again in Galashiels. The child is safe at least.

BBC: A 53-year-old man has been arrested over the disappearance of an 11-year-old girl who was later found in the Scottish Borders.

WoS: There seems to be no doubt that the man arrested in connection with xxxxxx's disappearance has been openly "living as a woman" for at least six years now. This would require Police Scotland to interview him as a woman, under his female name.

StephanieSuperpowers · 07/02/2023 18:18

Yeah, we all knew it was him. There's a curious pressure to pretend that it could be almost anything else, like a gas leak or a monster from Scooby Doo.

Boiledbeetle · 07/02/2023 18:12

We all knew it would be the husband.

Why do they have to be so Fucking selfish. Kill yourself, fine, but leave the wife and children out of it, you self centred arsehole.

MavisMcMinty · 07/02/2023 17:49

Ah, just read the Epsom headteacher’s husband killed the three of them. It was my first instinct anyway when the news broke, and I bet many of you as well.

Yes, horrible horrible news Sad

I have Glosswitch's Hags on pre order as of one minute ago. Can't wait to read it.

Tricyrtis2022 · 07/02/2023 15:48

This isn't really FWR, but just something I wanted to share. I was at home today waiting for a plumber and when he turned up, he had a young woman apprentice with him. She was tiny and very slight, but had a determined look to her. I saw her walk up the path behind the plumber and when she saw me, her face did something lovely, it lit up with a huge smile. I may be imagining it, but I got a strong impression she was glad there was a woman at the door.

BellaAmorosa · 07/02/2023 15:05

Ooh should I have referred to the Welsh Government? I do apologise to our Welsh Mumsnetters if so.

BellaAmorosa · 07/02/2023 15:04

Dennis Noel Kavanagh (crim barrister) made the point on Twitter that

  1. the WA have even less chance than the SG of bringing this into law because they don't have the devolved powers to do this and the UK Gov has already said it will not devolve those powers and
  2. if the WA carry on with their plans, it will link Labour explicitly to the irresponsible self-ID policy.

And like pps I just don't understand how they can look at the shitshow in Scotland and think, yay, come on, lads - that could be us!

duc748 · 07/02/2023 14:17

as to why it’s happening, surely the root cause is the forced teaming of LGB with TQ+, ie conflation of sexuality with identity, and the highjacking of the fact that we are so very nearly there on achieving full LGB rights in the U.K. and majority public acceptance that LGB rights are a good and necessary thing.

Conflation of sexuality with identity: absolutely this. Added to muddying the waters re the definitions of sex and gender.

funnelfan · 07/02/2023 14:05

Seems that I missed that at least one thread has already started to discuss the Welsh:

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4737389-welsh-government-barging-ahead-scottish-style-lgbtq-plan

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4737482-wales-am-i-living-in-a-parallel-universe?

LGB Alliance have been stymied from the start, so as much as it is painful, we need the Welsh to go ahead with their plans to keep the public debate going. I have no doubt that there will be future examples of egregious safeguarding failures too that make people stop and think.

funnelfan · 07/02/2023 12:59

It appears that the Welsh Assembly has looked at the mess that Scotland has made of self-id and decided to have a go themselves. I wonder if they’ll learn anything from the public reaction to the Scottish debate or go full out for a “hold my beer” approach.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-64548844.amp

God what is happening. Why are governments so obsessed with this when polling shows increasingly that voters aren’t that keen and there is an obvious clash with women’s rights? It’s as if they’re being held at gun point.
