It's Trans Awareness Week and I've just received a work email advertising these for free. 🙄

I could do with a haircut - do you think I could go and say that I identify as a woman and need my femenine gender affirmed?

I tried to educate myself with this:
www.seventeen.com/beauty/hair/g40314165/gender-neutral-haircuts/

It seems any hair is gender neutral hair.

Sorry, I am not sure I understand.

Sorry it was late! I was suggested you have earned yourself a badge of honour for getting your first deletion. Like when you get a suspension on Facebook or Twitter!

Tell them you identify as someone with fabulously expensive, beautifully coloured and styled hair, and that you'd like to book your free appointment now please. See how they like them gender-affirming apples, wanksticks.

Is a gender affirming haircut the same as a normal haircut but the person doing the cutting whispers 'you are a man/woman/non-binary' while they're working?

This, and also: is gender affirming haircut only when you 'identify as the opposite gender' (or as NB)?

Or can I, as a woman who 'identifies as a woman' (*), request one to affirm my gender too?

(*) I don't.

A salon near me offers non gender cuts, with long and short options. My hair is above jawline and I see no reason why I shouldn’t ask for a short non gender cut and finish instead of a ladies’ cut, seeing as the styles would be identical. I could save £13.

At 21 my husband and I both had long hair. As we've got older our hair has got thinner and been cut shorter.

Same is true of my brother.

My son has longer hair than my daughter.

I can assure you we're a very normal family.

Raddix · 02/11/2022 09:14

Very puzzled by this whole thing. I’ve had all haircuts from a shaved head to waist length tresses and everything in between. I have always been female though. I thought the whole point of feminism was that it’s sexist to tell us that certain clothes and hairstyles and jobs and hobbies are “female” and we can be whoever we want to be? 🤷‍♀️

how is non-binary female or non-binary male a thing?

Did you not see the thread about the Boston marathon ? 😂

I missed that thread - that's classic!

Did no-one ever tell them, as small children, that girls and women can in fact have short hair, and men and boys long hair?

I completely agree but lots of people on mumsnet need to be told this. We had a big thread where lots of people were upset that a “man” (actually a very attractive woman with a short hair cut) was modelling a dress. The thread was deleted.

My work is doing a gender affirming clothes swap. I think my jeans are probably non binary but I do have a jumper that may well be cat-gender

Do you mean you get to swap clothes with Barry from accounts for the day? Ewww

MagpiePi · 02/11/2022 07:57

So we have Trans awareness week, LBGT month, Trans day of remembrance. When is GC day?

Don't forget Coming Out Day!

It’s the inherent sexism. If bobs and short hair are somehow non binary or trans hair cuts then the ladeez must have all long flowing locks and be all rapunzel then?

A friend's teenage daughter says that you have to have the set long hair or you don't fit in. Any girl with a bob or short hair gets asked if they are trans.

Its sexism. School yard sexism

Do you remember in downtown lady Mary got a 1920s bob and it was a scandal. We are back to that. But it’s worse cos now she’s a man as determined by her hair, not just a flapper.

I’d have to be sick that day. What garbage.

And my son's (different cuts obviously, since non-binary for blokes is apparently different to non-binary for women... of course.....)

this bit.

thank you to the Laetitia Ky video. She is amazing!

QuinkWashable · 02/11/2022 06:43

my hair is currently still green from Halloween!! My God, I didn't know what I was doing!

Reallybadidea · 02/11/2022 06:42

Is dying your hair blue included? This seems to be an important component of non-binary hair.

QuinkWashable · 02/11/2022 06:35

Wha? My haircut's non-binary too (although grown out a bit, because I'm lazy and it's winter, so I like to have it a bit longer on my neck to keep the drafts off!)

First deletion or did you say badge of honour? Didn't see the post.

Sorry, I am not sure I understand.
