Long twitter thread here. She's had her electronic devices seized too, and has been accused of being certain posters on Kiwi Farms and Mumsnet

@BernardBlacksWineIceLolly and @BreakWindandFire sorry to tag you but she's been accused of being you!

We all know who this will be, but as Caroline says, please don't speculate/discuss them.

Utterly terrifying.

And Ms Farrow, if you’re reading here, you have an army of women who will help you grow a massive garden, should you wish to take action against the police or the vexatious complaint/s.

I would probably disagree with most of your beliefs but what was done to you is really scary. It reads like the start of a police state.

And brought to mind Margaret Atwood’s comment that everything in The Handmaid’s Tale has actually happened.

I've been thinking that increasingly, esp as I am re-reading Handmaid's Tale as my son is doing it for English Lit A level. I told him this at the beginning - that she said that everything in the book and happended or was happening to women somewhere and he scoffed. He's not scoffing anymore.

Under his Eye.

catandcoffee · 04/10/2022 13:36

Regardless of 'feelings' about any Women...remember it could be YOU next.
All this talk of she says he says, needs to stop.
A Women the biological type...has been arrested ...for what ?
Has she threatened death to anyone, no !

I've no idea what's going on in this Country but 'they 'have a level of power... that's terrifying.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/10/2022 13:27

This is extremely worrying.

Am aghast at some people here clearly feeling that this is Ok, because they think Caroline has dreadful opinions. Am less aghast at the whataboutery over what is a minor part of the story re the sectioning, as that is very par for the course on a thread like this, about a specific named woman being targeted. I can spot at least one poster who can only do nit picky sophistry, most often on threads about certain women, through whatever name change they have, and is utterly incapable of engaging with any substantive matter. Best ignored.

There is much that I disagree with Caroline about. It seems that the absolute baseline of acceptable human interaction is that she is entitled to her viewpoint, and to be able to articulate it without being persecuted.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/10/2022 13:26

Police entering a home and removing items without a warrant is ultimately a bad thing for everyone, regardless of whether one happens to agree with that person's views or not.

This, in a nutshell, Quagaar

Massive whataboutism going on here - we’ve supported loads of women through similar experiences, off the top of my head, Kate Scottow, Marion Millar, Jennifer Swayne, Posie P.

Never once have we considered the value of their house or their educational background or family income.

fuck off with that.

Yes - even though "you can't have a thread about one person in this situation because you haven't started a thread about every person who has been in this situation" is logically unsound, it's also incorrect.

We've had countless threads about women being arrested on spurious grounds - some of them even had different alleged "reporters" than the person who summoned the police in this incident. Even this morning before I knew about CF I was reading about that poor woman who got treated horrifically after being allegedly involved in the Bristol protests (fairly old story).

MrsOvertonsWindow · 04/10/2022 13:24

Honestly KettrickenSmiled
Rocking up on a thread about CF being arrested and arguing that we shouldn't be discussing CF being arrested.
Maybe try these threads if this one isn't to your liking?

or the legendary Fred Sergeant:

Or the one about threats from trans extremists to burn down the venue for the Filia Feminist conference?

FigRollsAlly · 04/10/2022 13:24

Surely the context of remarks about sectioning is relevant to whether the remarks were received as a threat or not? The context here is the disproportionate use of force in CF being removed from her home, her devices seized, and being held in custody. It would surely be reasonable for her to perceive the sectioning remarks as a threat rather than a genuine concern or her welfare.

beastlyslumber · 04/10/2022 13:23

Yes, @KettrickenSmiled I didn't address your whataboutery and lying. Others did, however, so no need to go over it again here.

I mean, I'm not sure why I shouldn't pull out one part of your comment to respond to. You can call it 'selective quoting' if you want to, but in actual fact, it's just 'quoting'. It's not as if you said anything in the rest of your comment which altered the meaning of the words I quoted.

ImherewithBoudica · 04/10/2022 13:21

Massive whataboutism going on here

I have the bingo card to hand.

So far we have:

  • she's catholic
  • she's anti gay marriage
  • she's anti abortion
  • she eats hamsters and leaves the toilet seat up
  • she's right wing (dear God the horror )
  • she's privileged (Run! Run for your lives!)
  • you're not allowed to care about her until you've demonstrated sufficient action and virtue signalling to all of x, y and z

No one's said 'fascist' yet. <disappointed>

But basically all of this says: if you're not the Right Kind of Person you do not deserve equality under the law, or fair treatment, and other women should not help you.

Fuck that. Smile It's morally fubar.

VickyEadieofThigh · 04/10/2022 12:49

I spent yesterday talking with a friend and ww were musing on how the police - all forces, it seems - have gone from being notorious for cynical, unreconstructed homophobia, racism and sexism, etc to absolute staff carriers for a movement that is based purely on people's feelings. They happily leave reports of violence, burglary, etc uninvestigated but move at the speed of light when unevidenced allegations are made of hurt feelings.

Of course, it's a movement that is dominated by men and has misogyny at its core, so...

Why would the police deal with truly tough criminals when a whingeing person complaining of ''Hurt feelings'' will mean the police can go round and arrest a relatively docile woman?
Easy target for them.

It's like a gardener choosing to pull up weeds in a rose~bed, as opposed to digging out Japanese knotweed, or removing Pyracantha.

An easy job to target a woman who allegedly ''Said something'' that hurt a man's feelings.
This is my take on it anyway.

beastlyslumber · 04/10/2022 12:56

dislike the fact that MN is on the warpath for a privileged woman

There you go. You dislike the fact that women are standing up for a woman you don't like.

So you're right @KettrickenSmiled - no cognitive dissonance for you, just pure misogyny and saying anything you can think of to try to justify it.

Ah, selective quoting @beastlyslumber. The part that you've omitted, which explains that I dislike the warpath choice because it totally ignores the similar plight of thousands of other women changes the sense entirely, but why let facts get in the way of your tiny crusade?

Also, I don't think you quite understand what misogny means. Disliking one female individual doesn't equal misogyny.

Are you sure?

You wouldn't believe how some people get mixed up about who they are. It seems to be a very easy mistake to make.

Yy I think it would be helpful. I might start a thread in Site Stuff about it.

Agree...or ask Fair Cop to come and do it, along with a Q&A @MNHQ

This is a brilliant idea.

Please could you do this? This is something that EVERYONE should know, not just women.

Remember - when you teach a man, you have taught a man. When you teach a woman, you have taught her whole family.

There you go. You dislike the fact that women are standing up for a woman you don't like.

You seem to have chopped that post a bit to completely change context?!

It said
It's possible to dislike Farrow, dislike police high-handedness, AND dislike the fact that MN is on the warpath for a privileged woman without single other comment about wrongful arrest & power-abusing harassment frequently happening to less well-off women
The former chopped by you makes out that it's because someone is standing up for a woman and it's misogyny, whereas the poster was talking about other women who are less well off, less privileges, no public platforms to rally support, there's not a peep for them.

Yes, I ignored the whataboutery and focused on the misogyny.

Other people have commented on the whataboutery, though, so don't worry Ganymede.

I wonder if we could get MNHQ to do a webchat with a QC about women's rights concerning arrests/cautions/vexatious complaints, etc. They could provide a detailed checklist on what to do when faced with a police officer at the door; an officer determined to gain entry; an officer casually referencing sectioning, etc because this thread shows that some posters seem to think random Googles are the same as understanding the law and their rights. It isn't.
Also, is it possible to have a group litigation order against the police? Women need to mobilise collectively around these particular issues with the police.

@MNHQ
This is a brilliant idea.

picklemewalnuts · 04/10/2022 13:07

YY!

Threats of actual violence against women are not investigated.
A woman is fingered for posting a mean meme, by someone who hates her gets arrested.

Feminists here rallied to support the woman arrested in Newport for that well known crime, Stickering, even though she was not a middle class tummy mummy.

Telling someone to rethink their answer or be sectioned is not a helpful offer. It's a threat. Helpful advice would be 'If I think you are at risk of self harm, I'd have to call medics in and consider whether you need to be sectioned for your own safety'.

So much shot being talked by male apologists.

ImherewithBoudica · 04/10/2022 13:07

Oh she's Catholic and privileged?!

Burn the witch! Get the pitchforks!

Jeez there really are people born out of their time, who'd have bloody loved the witch trials, or the Guillotine era, or the Inquisition.

Reading comprehension is nothing to do with it. She hasn't given a verbatim report, you know nothing about attitude or tone from either her or the officer.

You are reading what you want to see into it.

There are ways to respond if they genuinely believe someone is at risk of self-harm.

Locking them back into cells until they give an answer that covers the backside of the officer in question, whilst doing nothing to protect the ostensibly vulnerable person, isn't one of them.

MelodyPondsMum · 04/10/2022 13:01

Can't we just grey rock the sealion? They're only here to stop us talking about the issues. Their sole purpose is to try to stop this thread discussing the fact the police are overstepping the law; and are acting like hired help; that they are responding to vexatious complaints rather than warning the vexatious complainants of the consequences of wasting police time.
How many women have reported VAWG or stalking and harassment and been told by the police that it's just a domestic or they can't do anything or to keep a diary? Yet look at what they can find time for ... acting as stalkers and harassers by proxy.
