"And yet even after that episode, even after his presence in a female bathroom made girls scream, still Izzard invades women’s spaces."

Yes, Sonnex, we may be constrained here but more and more I hear people saying the simple blunt truths we're not allowed to state.

ArabellaScott · 03/10/2022 16:22

Superb article. I'd like to quote several lines of it, but I'd be deleted.

Which rather illustrates how extreme the position is that we're in.

Anyone who's posted here a while learns how to swerve certain words and phrases.

'Womanhood is real. It’s a biological, social, relational and cultural reality of which Izzard has zero experience.'

Also, thanks for 'malicious compliance', TheClogLady, that's perfect.

Sonnex · 03/10/2022 15:55

Yes lots of deletions and warnings about the three letter acronym that cannot be named. It's a fine line for the MN eyes to tread I suppose as someone like EI probably has resources to give them grief. Bit sad though in the current climate. Doesn't change what women know or think about men like him either. And there are lots of alternative forums now where people can speak more freely on the subject, which is gratifying.

ColeensBoot · 03/10/2022 14:18

Cor that's a cracking article.
More like that please from blokes.

Wake up people! (speaking to the men who think this does not concern them)

ColeensBoot · 03/10/2022 14:14

"my field of fucks is most definitely barren"
My quote of 2022

It would be interesting to know how many on this board show restraint when posting, compared to what they would like to say were they in a censorship-free zone. It would be interesting to know how many would wish to be incredibly blunt with their language, and how many of them, were you to go back 5 years, would not have dreamt they'd end up in a place where "be kind" has been so throroughly abandoned.

It’s definitely been a journey.

I’ve gone from being shocked at FWR comments stating terribly selfish and radical things such as

‘this is not a woman problem and women are not obliged to solve it for you’

and

‘TWAM’

to constantly holding my poisonous tongue lest The Eyes report me to MNTowers.

Perhaps it’s correlation rather than causation but now that I’m menopausal-ish my Field of Fucks is most Definitely Barren and I find the traditional Mumsnet-ism of ‘ODFOD’ (‘Oh Do Fuck Off Dear’) to be of ever-increasing relevance.

Any women who is still in the thick of her inner battle between ‘Be Kind’ and ‘Cock Off’ should have a read of this 2018 thread:

One man's fiction trumps many women's reality.

These threads are attracting a lot of deletions.

Clearly we are not yet at the point where we can be as forthright on FWR as Brendan can be for Spiked!

@NecessaryScene

the issue is what you type or quote is as bigoted as men who think women don’t deserve women only places. That’s a shame .

there are clearly men who pretend to be trans to get off on something and there are clearly trans people who are nothing like that at all.

"there are clearly trans people who are nothing like that at all."

Evidence?

FunnyTalks · 03/10/2022 12:23

Perhaps Eddie has had, or it about to have, bottom surgery? As I suppose I can see that the result of that might possibly lead a person to head towards the ladies instead.

Has EI mentioned this at all? Is there a crowdfunder or something?

The assumption that transwomen no longer had a penis was a large component of earlier acceptance and sympathy for transwomen from women.

I find it odd how this subject is barely mentioned in relation to middle aged late transitioning transwomen. How can there be phrases like "yeet the teet" for young transboys, but nothing for older transwomen? If anything you'd think there would be more focus on this, as penises are so quintessentially male. Whereas overweight males often have breasts.

and yes, I agree, Brendan is excellent on this - his Shon Faye book review is a thing of beauty:

So is his recent one about Travis Alabanza

I suspect the photo caption writers at the Daily Mail are trolling.
Their gushing descriptions (usually used for the young reality celebs from shows like Love Island) highlights the grotesquely carnivalesque aspects of Izzard’s transition.

They do the same for Jessica Alves formerly Rodrigo who was on Big Brother years ago and is clearly mentally ill. It's quite uncomfortable to read.

Unlike that, I don't feel sorry for Izzard though.

TheClogLady · 03/10/2022 11:34

They must know what they are doing here? What’s that phrase for when you do your job in exactly the manner you are told to do it but in a way that communicates your obvious scorn for the task, whilst making it impossible for anyone to discipline you?

‘malicious compliance’?

Yeah but I think the point is by any objective measure he doesn’t look ‘fabulous’ when trussed up in fishnets etc

why are people in the media saying that he does?

They must be pissing their pants with laughter writing stuff like this:

(ps, MNHQ, I’m not using ‘grotesque’ and ‘carnivalesque’ as insults against Eddie, but am making reference to the terms as they are used in literary and artistic criticism - just thought I’d add an explainer rather than risk a misunderstanding! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnivalesque

I like the below from the article

And that includes the freedom to correctly gender Mr Izzard as male, the freedom of women to have their own spaces, and the freedom of teenage girls to tell blokes like Eddie to fuck off out of their toilets.

pattihews · 03/10/2022 11:15

Great article. No punches pulled. How far we've come from tentatively suggesting that perhaps something wasn't quite right about men using women's facilities.

I presume someone will be along in a minute to wave something dodgy Brendan O'Neill once wrote and call him a fascist and us fascists for reading him, but that ship has sailed. We are no longer in the purity race, no longer in fear of contamination by association.

Live4weekend · 03/10/2022 10:54

My viewpoint is different to yours.

I really don't care how he is dressed.

The media should not comment on how anyone is dressed, male or female.

My only issue with Eddie, is that he is a male using Female spaces. That is a massive red flag. No decent male born person would do this even if they think they are a woman.

TheClogLady · 03/10/2022 10:02

The male transitioners who ‘aren’t like that’ are the handful who have spoken about how damaging the current Trans Rights movement is, Miranda Yardley, Fionne Orlander, Jenn Smith, Seven Hex, Corinna Cohn, Leanne Mills et al.

They don’t trample women’s boundaries by using women’s facilities, they inconvenience themselves rather than cause us discomfort.

Ironic, isn’t it? That the transwomen who are MOST trustworthy are the ones we are LEAST likely to encounter in a toilet or gym changing room.

But that’s a side effect of their respectful understanding of women’s rights and needs versus Izzard’s total disregard.

I would like to elaborate on that disregard but I might be smited by MNHQ if our shadowy overlords (overladies? Overnonbinaryfolk?) file complaints about us women daring to both assert our boundaries and explain why they are necessary.

Under Zir’s Eye.
