As someone said on Twitter, obviously she is not responsible for his crimes but when you are campaigning to remove safeguarding for women and children it is relevant for people to know this about your immediate circle.

12 and 14. Jesus. It’s so depressing. For every one caught by police ‘decoys’ or vigilante groups, how many end up abusing young girls?

I think we need to look at the law around consent and age in particular. There is a big difference between a 14 and a 16 year old having sex with each other and a man in his 20s or 30s having sex with a girl under the age of 16. The penalties for the latter need to be raised.

I think that showing good character overall can sometimes impact cases, and so lawyers just use it inevitably if they can to try and make the client look more plausible. It's up to the judge and jury whether they buy it in the particular instance.

Is "exemplary character" just lawyer speak for from a wealthy enough family to buy his way out of trouble? It's amazing how many would be rapists and paedophiles are apparently upstanding members of the community according to their defense lawyers otherwise.

I'm a heterosexual female and just don't understand the concept of dick pics (handily I don't have a smart phone so no chance of receiving one). Are there many women who find them erotic? Might have thought the guy was a bit dull, but now they've seen a particular type of scrotal wrinkling and veinage are now much more interested?

6 months suspended for sending one to a teenager is risible.

I never understand the 'good character' nonsense. This man tried to groom a child and meet her to rape her. This is clear evidence of his extremely predatory and dangerous character. People don't groom and arrange to assault a child on a whim, it is not an opportunistic crime. It is a crime of planning and of many many layers of deceit. He is a dangerous, predatory man, that is obvious to any fool.

It is important to look at how these ministers come to views/opinions and the 'pressure groups' and how close they are to ministers
