To wonder why an MP is lying about womens bathrooms?

709 replies

TeaKlaxon · 28/03/2022 09:33

Lucy Allen has tweeted that the Barbican has mens bathrooms and gender neutral bathrooms, but no womens bathrooms.

Lots of twitter users told her that was wrong.

The Barbican itself told her it's wrong.

But the tweet remains. AIBU to think that if an MP gets something wrong, they should apologise and remove the lie? Or to think that this is deliberate misinformation to further the myth of women being 'erased'?

You keep railing against someone having to walk up or down half a flight of stairs to get to a womens bathroom.

How do women know where these mysterious toilets are when they are laughed at when they ask? Also, women get many more urinal issues, because they are WOMEN and as such, suffer from complaints due to periods, childbirth, endometriosis yada yada yada because they are WOMEN.

And I'll keep railing against a political and economic system implemented by your transphobic allies that disproportionately leaves women facing poverty and exclusion.

Women being excluded from toilets is a direct result of your system. That's the fucking point. But in upside down world...

Helleofabore · 29/03/2022 16:06

Oh... and we are 'railing' now.

Just keeping a list of the monstering and demonising that OP continues to do on this thread.

Rail away witchy non-feminists, who are hunting squirrels, and spectral readers!! Crank it up OP! Let's get this 'echo chamber' really lively.

Maybe someone will really get pissed off and report OP for their posts. Because very many of them fall foul of the guidelines now that the thread is in the naughty witchy, non-feminist corner.

But probably not because this live demonstration has been going just as they all do. Sadly. It is all very predictable.

@Linguini

I love gender ideology logic. It's hilarious to witness. Once gender ideologists are out of their bubble and come up against the real world it all comes crashing down eg the Labour party and "what is a woman" disaster right now.

So we have:

TRA: "Transwomen have been using the ladies loos since forever and no one has bat an eyelid because no one can tell.
("You can never tell"- myth number 5. Makes you wonder why the need for gender neutral spaces then rather).

TRA: dyke lesbians are always getting chucked out of the women's loos by women policing who uses the loos.
(So, no one can identify an actual man but a woman in masculine clothes is thought to be a man).

And.... Gender neutral loos are safe for all, but men are so unsafe it is too dangerous for a man who identifies as a woman to use the men's space, they'd be instantly attacked. Men in the gender neutral space magically lose all their danger.

It all makes PERFECT SENSE.

Grin Grin totally logical. Especially the last comment.

@VestofAbsurdity

Hellofabore I've asked two or three times for the actual words used by the MP to back up OP's claims that the MP said the Barbican has no women's toilets and it's just tumbleweed, ironic really as OP claims the MP is lying and then cannot provide proof of the lie which suggests - wait for it - the OP is the one lying.

Always instructive as to which questions, comments and indeed threads certain OP's and posters studiously ignore, if they think by doing so they get away with it they couldn't be more wrong it stands out like a turd in swimming pool.

I know..... And I have posted the tweet on every page since page 10! But I might have missed one page.

Because it is very important with all the squirrels, and other manipulations to remind ourselves just what the tweet actually was and how it was worded!

Artichokeleaves · 29/03/2022 15:58

disproportionately leaves women facing poverty and exclusion.

We don't have a single politician who knows what one of those is. Which is where to start with this problem if you actually care about said women and said issues rather than trying to use words you think are emotionally weighted to push your own agenda.

I've read the Deptford Project's open letter: females standing up for the right of females to have accessible toilets and refuges and hospital wards and rape crisis services and HCPs and other stuff? We've been talking about the impact of this identity politics lobby on people from poverty and marginalised groups for years. What do you know about it?

And exclusion? You're only worried about male people never hearing the word 'no', and that is not exclusion. That's boundaries. The actual exclusion of female people doesn't worry you in the slightest!

Lucy Allen's statement is correct. There are no single-sex women's toilets at the Barbican.

The Barbican's statement, posted earlier in this thread, clearly said our audiences remain welcome to use any facilities in line with the gender with which they identify. In other words, men are welcome to use any of the toilets, including those that are supposedly for women.

Therefore, there are no single-sex spaces. Putting the word "Ladies" or "Women" on a door is meaningless, if the entire audience has been invited to use it.

But you know this, OP. So why are you pretending you don't?

girlmom21 · 29/03/2022 15:54

The sad, sad truth is that most people - including most women - don't give a shit about your weird little witch hunts about every venue that you deem to be insufficiently hostile to trans people

We don't want them to be hostile to trans people. We don't want them to be hostile to women.

VestofAbsurdity · 29/03/2022 15:52

Tell you what.

You keep railing against someone having to walk up or down half a flight of stairs to get to a womens bathroom.

I'm not railing against someone having to walk up or down half a flight of stairs, the point as ever has flown right over your head.

And I'll keep railing against a political and economic system implemented by your transphobic allies that disproportionately leaves women facing poverty and exclusion.

I'll keep railing against an ideology that absolutely marginalises and excludes women especially some of the most vulnerable and those who are already on the margins of society, I think they matter and they count.

I know which of us will have done more for women.

I know damn well I'll have done more for women than you who dismisses and ignores a whole swathe of women because they are inconvenient to your ideology.

girlmom21 · 29/03/2022 15:52

You keep railing against someone having to walk up or down half a flight of stairs to get to a womens bathroom.

I'm just going to say this again, because you don't seem to get it:

Women don't mind walking to the toilets. Women can't walk to the toilets if, instead of being told where they are, they're mocked.

If the woman in question had been told the ladies toilets were on the floor above or below, she'd have gone to them.

Her complaint is that someone laughed at her when she asked where they were and didn't just tell her where they were

PacificState · 29/03/2022 15:48

I went into the Barbican to use the loo the weekend before last and they'd cut off access to every single bloody toilet, which felt like an unnecessarily radical solution. (Think they were preparing for an event.) Had to use the ones at New Change instead (men's and ladies, very old school)

Yes, I know I'm missing the point.

MyLittlePhonyPony · 29/03/2022 15:47

Women or "women"?

Well this seems a little harsh bearing in mind that you 'literally' started it

Everything was bumbling along quite nicely til you mentioned the barbican bogs

@VestofAbsurdity

You lot aren't feminists.

Anyone cosying up to right wing ideologues to win some battle on toilets while those ideologues continue to push an economic and political model that has continued to exacerbate poverty, precarious employment, decaying communities and dalays or failures in vital and time sensitive public services (all of which impact women disproportionately) is not a feminist.

Well you sure as shit ain't a feminist. Feminism is for and about females, not males however they feel about themselves.

It's not a battle on toilets it's a battle to ensure that females have the right to male free spaces everywhere for their safety, privacy and dignity without question or judgement and anyone who believes that females do not deserve that most simple and basic consideration is a misogynist.

Failure to supply that most simple and basic of requests actively excludes some of the most vulnerable and marginalised women in society, if you are happy with that then you are a misogynist.

If it is trans hostile to want that most simple and basic of considerations then it is proof positive that the trans rights agenda is in direct opposition to women and women's rights and that is misogynist.

Tell you what.

Yep! I noticed that OP ignored my question about that from the previous page.

Helleofabore · 29/03/2022 15:34

@ScribblingPixie

90% of a theatre's customers will not base their decision to go there on its toilet policy.

There's a lot of choice in London - there's no reason to go to places where you're made to feel uncomfortable. There are some Victorian theatres I avoid because of terrible seating. Some, the journey's too irritating. And I haven't been back to the Old Vic since they removed the women's toilets. Surely most people want an overall good experience for their money and are choosing between various options?

I suspect actually there will be a bit of a light bulb moment when numbers are down and it cannot be attributed to covid.

Like the Labour Party who are scratching their heads as to why membership fees are down and they have to find large donors quickly.

Helleofabore · 29/03/2022 15:32

I am just going to post some other threads from AIBU here. They got many more votes than OP's very confusing poll.

This one was about Starmer and his 'it shouldn't be said that only women have a cervix' comment.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4359210-It-shouldn-t-be-said-that-only-women-have-a-cervix

This one is women expressed their opinion as to being forced to accept labels that they do not want to accept and that they feel is not right for them.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4395656-To-despise-being-called-cis

I want to point out that OP has continually tried to make others believe that the OP's opinion on toilets and inclusiveness are aligned with the majority of people. This is however a falsity.

When women are confronted with the realities of the accommodations that they being asked to make, the over all feeling is not representated by the OPs.

This has been an ongoing tactic used by extreme activists to again minimise and isolate people who don't agree with their views. However, it was only after numerous threads on AIBU with polls that finally most of the MN activists who tried that, gave up. Because it was so easily seen to be untrue.

Just another tactic though to silence people who disagree.

I can imagine that there might well have been some lively discussion about this issue, if the OP had not set the tone from the first. With a misrepresentation of a tweet.

This tweet:

“I was at the Barbican yesterday where there were male toilets, disabled toilets, and gender neutral toilets. I asked where were the female toilets as I am not gender neutral I am a woman and they laughed in my face. Women are being erased.”

VestofAbsurdity · 29/03/2022 15:28

@334bu

*Since Gender Crits thought theirs was the only way to be a woman, perhaps, and that the world revolves around their weird obsessions.*

🤣🤣🤣

I know such a weird obsession to want single sex spaces and services for female people to be available and guaranteed they are exactly that single sex.

Ensuring that women whilst going about their daily lives are afforded the basic consideration of safety, dignity and privacy in spaces and services designed for their use is such a wacky way out idea completely underserving of respectHmm.

sanluca · 29/03/2022 15:27

@Helleofabore

oooooh.... echo chamber!!!! Can we call bingo yet?
Yes we can. Right wing, Trump, not feminists, liars, making things up, bigoted minority, transphobic, gender crits, policing bathrooms. Just missing the right wing christian funding and followers of Putin bit...
Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/03/2022 15:24

Perhaps when there is a much wider context of women being demonised for wanting something that the Equality Act says they are entitled to? Perhaps when said provider is one of many that doesn't provide sufficiently for women?

Exactly. It's likely that the constituent wrote a general letter to her MP asking for her support on women's single sex spaces, and including reasons why they were important to her and background as to her concerns.

I'm sure the vast readership of a weird obsessive corner of mumsnet is hanging on my every word.

It was your bizarre attitude that got us moved to this corner. I've never been on this board before in my life. I think you've made this thread much more than it ever needed to be. You misquoted. You called women who've been refused their dignity liars, and the women who support them liars.

Welcome to the Resistance!

The way you twist and spin to accuse Lucy Allen's constituent of lying reminds me of the way men's rights activists treat women who report rape.
