Sir Bernard Jenkins standing up for women on IWD - and a bunch of female MPs failing to.

This has just popped up on my youtube feed. It is Sir Bernard Jenkin, in the commons on the International Women's Day debate, pushing back against self ID and advocating for women's need for single sex space. Anneliese Dodds has a beef with him when he refers to her performance the other day. Once again, the betrayal of women by several female MPs astonishes and depresses me. Thank you, Sir Bernard.

This makes me cry with anger

Just on the Bernard Jenkin racist thing. If the sole evidence of his racism was using the word "coloured", as a woman of colour myself, I'll take it. My Windrush era immigrant parents would have described themselves as that up until they died a few years ago. Many of the older generation still do. Frankly, I don't see how the odious BAME acronym, which still lumps all us non whites together, is any better.

I hope the poster who got affronted is also cancelling Benedict Cumberbatch for using the word a couple of years ago, when, as a relative hip youngster, he ought to have known better. But no, he's still going very strong, tipped for an Oscar this year, I see. Still going strong is Mr Blackface himself, Justin Trudeau, happily giving away women's rights left right and centre and being forgiven by his liberal friends for the plethora of times he's blacked up for shits and giggles at parties. Ae you cancelling him too? Give me a Bernard Jenkin any day over a 2 faced woke bro, who hates me, but thinks his liberal credentials hide it. They don't.

You're welcome, and I will also be emailing Sir Bernard, so thank you for that link Leafstamp. I will also thank:

I had a lovely email from Kemi Badenoch this week in response to my thank you email to her; she said our supportive emails really don't go unnoticed. I will copy in my fence sitting MP as usual to try to get him to understand that supporting women is a vote winner, and to support his Parliamentary colleagues going forward.

I'll be sending my thanks to Bernard Jenkin too. Thank you OP and everyone else who contributed, providing links, info, and even more brilliant things to read up on. Feeling elated Smile

I would like to point out to liz that the majority of what has been collected and posted are prominent people involved in trans activism. Not just randoms. These are/were people in positions of influence.

But ... yeah.... purity spirals are fun aren't they?

Helleofabore · 11/03/2022 14:18

Oh. Thanks everyone. I have cross posted with you. And some other interesting links posted too. Thanks.

Here is the 'it never happens thread'

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3348290-It-will-never-happen-resource-thread

And this is the thread that I referred to

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4013710-The-Dark-Side-of-Some-of-Those-Supporting-Self-ID

There is some graphics floating around with the captured quotes from prominent transitioned males about what they say about women, what they think 'is' a woman and so on. It has not been updated and there have been some fucked up things said by prominent activists since then too. But this is quite enlightening as a start.

twitter.com/gnarlycharz/status/1368703619684589569?s=21

I mean, there is also websites collating 'terf is a slur' abuse, a website where lesbians are posting their abuse about not accepting males as sex partners from allies and transitioned males (although it might have disappeared).

There is so much that is around from the transitioned males and their vocal allies that I am sure that the people who post things on MN like 'look who also supports you...' type crap simply either forget what is collected about prominent people supporting gender ideology . Or they fully believe there is a subset of the population that cannot be held accountable for their opinions and their deeds. Not sure which would be worse.

There's also this one on some of the pioneers of gender identity Hirschfield, Money, etc).

The racist expenses cheat Bernard Jenkin? Keeping it classy there guys!

Haven't we seen enough of purity spiralling yet? Really? I thought we had got over these hypocritical finger pointing posts.

This is an elected member of Parliament who has been re-elected by his constituency since that issue was publicised and resolved.

Shall we start listing all the spokespeople for inclusion and some of their backgrounds? It is really very enlightening and raise far more red flags than this issue. (Which was an issue and which was resolved.) I think there is a thread on it in fact for some of those currently facing prosecution or have been prosecuted just to start with. But there are many many others too.

Is this the one you are thinking of

Any time you want to make an actual argument, go right ahead.
drum123 · 11/03/2022 13:29

Hellofabore, could you give a link to the thread you mentioned about the background of some of the inclusionists, or a source? It would be very useful when debating with my Be Kiiiiiiiind friends, who ask me to question my allegiances on this issue.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/03/2022 13:12

It's literally the only arguments Liz has.

You know what's really classy? Reporting an elected politician for being insufficiently respectful when she tweeted about the class of convicted rapists (in the UK, we distinguish between forced penetration of a woman or man with something that isn't a penis, or with a penis - same sentencing guidelines, different names for the offence) who identify as women.

She did not name any individual. She was insufficiently respectful, according to Crispin Blunt MP, towards a particular group of rapists. These rapists, who must, by dint of being rapists, have forced their erect members into a woman, man or child.

Classy.

When is he going to have a word with them for not being sufficiently respectful of other peope's bodies?

Cailleach1 · 11/03/2022 08:35

@Lifeinthelastlane

That was great. How can AD genuinely believe she did not fail to give a definition in that interview?
I wonder if she was trying to bank on the fact that Jenkins hasn't listened to her painful interview. Maybe she wasn't expecting the other chap to share her response in real time. She tried to salvage it a bit, but her ploy was found out good and proper.

Most bizarre that she then responded with 'I am a woman'. What is the context for that. Of course anyone who isn't lying can see she is, but by her own admittance, bit depends on context. Maybe in the right context the bench she is sitting on could be a woman, and not her.

Here's the whole thing:

Nokes is one of the early speakers:
"Celebrate"
"Amazing"
"Rebellious"

Other quotes include:

Jenkin
"we, as legislators, must be clear and courageous about what a man is and what a woman is."

"It is a scientific fact that our biological sex is immutable. Professor Lord Winston said on the BBC’s “Question Time”:

“I will say this categorically—that you cannot change your sex. Your sex actually is there in every single cell in the body.”

The responsibility for clarity starts with us as legislators. We have to be clear about what words mean in our legislation—but, astonishingly, some of us are reluctant to be clear. A woman is an adult female human."

Kruger
"Just as great a concern is the biological males deciding in adulthood that they want access to women-only spaces. I echo the points made by my hon. Friends the Members for Harwich and North Essex (Sir Bernard Jenkin) and for Thurrock (Jackie Doyle-Price). I hope there is some value in a man saying that. I think that trans activism is a new form of misogyny. It involves the essential denial of reality. I think we need a legal definition of what a woman is. A woman is an adult female. It is a biological and immutable reality and it is time to recognise that in the law."

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 11/03/2022 07:30

When I was a student back in the 90s I lived in Bernard Jenkin’s constituency. I answered the door once when he was canvassing & gave him a flea in his ear.

If I answered the door to him now I’d give him tea and cake.

VelvetChairGirl · 11/03/2022 07:18

@poshme

The person who intervened to say that trans are most vulnerable was Wera Hobhouse who is Lib Dem
oh what a surprise it was bound to be a lib dem or green spouting ill informed codswallop.
DryHeave · 11/03/2022 05:11

@VestofAbsurdity It was Wera Hobhouse.

VestofAbsurdity · 10/03/2022 22:41

Who was that risible fool of a woman who stood up and parroted the most vulnerable shit?

That phrase needs a Kemi - how are you defining vulnerable?

Oh do give over.

I know a devout leftie who has been a constituent of Bernard's for about 20 years, and he recently said to me that in fairness, at least he'd come out of the expenses scandal cleaner than many.

But bloody hell, I thought hell would freeze over before I applauded Bernard, and here I am, clapping and cheering.

It's come to something when women have to rely on the Tory Party to protect their rights

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 10/03/2022 20:59

I was going to add that Baroness Jenkin is married to Sir Bernard.
