@Kit19

Freddy McConnell has indeed been advising Brighton on this

Freddy is very unhappy that they were not allowed to be registered as their child's father rather than the mother www.theguardian.com/society/2020/nov/16/trans-man-loses-uk-legal-battle-to-register-as-his-childs-father

Freddy has a GRC so despite promising to live in their acquired gender (gender is the word used by Government) for the rest of their life, Freddy decided to become pregnant which you'd think was oooh a pretty female thing to do....

Freddy seems to want the best of both worlds

Their ideology seems to centre around the notion that identities are just words and don't have to correspond to biological reality or function. In practical terms though, words like man and woman have meanings which are important so that we can communicate clearly and accommodate accordingly.

Gender identities seem to be largely a phenomenon of first-world navel-gazing.

Middleagedmidwife · 12/02/2021 12:55

Literally just had an email telling staff we need to use ‘ gender inclusive language’ when discussing breast feeding. Just fired off an email explaining I will not stop the word woman or breasts!

highame · 12/02/2021 12:43

whilst we're waiting, anyone fancy a game of chests

I'll follow you out longdistance

LongDistanceClaret · 12/02/2021 12:30

Frankly it's just a colostrum mistake and they just need to nip it in the bud.

I'll get me coat.

prisencolinensinainciusol2 · 12/02/2021 12:14

Thank you for the JHB clip.

Loved the way she wasn't taking any of that cis nonsense.

prisencolinensinainciusol2 · 12/02/2021 12:13

This new terminology is both confusing and incorrect. I really hope they re-think this.

Glad to have got that off my chest [sorry].

Yes I hope it all goes tits-up for them [you started it].

DaisiesandButtercups · 12/02/2021 11:40

Indeed LondDistanceClaret it unnecessarily increases the cognitive load.

There should be specific leaflets and webpages for those needing the different language just as there are for other languages.

Making this new language standard for everyone is only about imposing gender ideology and queer theory on the whole population.

The place of the pregnant woman at the centre of maternity services rather than elevating the importance of her significant others or those who are intended to have a significant role in the baby’s life at a later date must be protected for the same reasons that we arguing for protecting the language used.

LongDistanceClaret · 12/02/2021 11:30

This annoys me on lots of levels.

I am a big fan of plain English. Even more important after birth when you’re exhausted etc - language needs to be clear and correct. Generally speaking I think the NHS do this very well.

When I first came across the phrase ‘chest-feeding’ I thought (wrongly, clearly) that it referred to feeding a baby on your chest with a bottle (i.e imitating breast-feeding but with a bottle instead).

I both breasts and a chest. My baby regular slept on my chest in those first few weeks - nestled in that gap between my breasts.

This new terminology is both confusing and incorrect. I really hope they re-think this.

Glad to have got that off my chest [sorry].

This is thanks to a Mumsnetter, @legalfeminist, and Graham Linehan’s sub stack post.

If women really want to do something about the erasure of women, this is a link to a list of all the organisations supporting Stonewall, and by doing so are supporting Stonewall’s anti-women, homophobic agenda. If any of these are in your area, write to them pointing out the unintended consequences of their support: the destruction and loss of women’s single-sex spaces that ensure our safety, dignity and privacy, women’s representation, facilities, sports, awards, scholarships - everything in fact that is reserved to women.

Justhadathought · 12/02/2021 10:33

The chest is the area of origin for many of the body’s systems as it houses organs such as the heart, oesophagus, trachea, lungs, and thoracic diaphragm

Justhadathought · 12/02/2021 10:31

Breast tissue consists of milk-producing glands (lobules), ducts that carry milk to the nipples, and fat. During puberty, women begin developing more breast tissue, and men do not. But because men are born with a small amount of breast tissue, they can develop breast cancer

VinylDetective · 12/02/2021 10:26

Freddy seems to want the best of both worlds

Indeed. Entitlement personified.

Justhadathought · 12/02/2021 10:17

You do have to wonder though, why on earth a transman would want to become pregnant in the first place. Could there be anything more archetypically female in experience? If you can cope with having a pregnant belly, then i'm sure you can cope with the word 'breast'.

Milk comes from ducts in the breast, anyway not from the chest.

Justhadathought · 12/02/2021 10:15

Why would breastfeeding even cause offence to somebody who wishes to be a woman? Surely they would be happy to now have breasts and leave their male chests behind

i think the idea is not to upset or trigger pregnant transmen, not transwomen. Transmen have usually had mastectomies to get rid of the dreaded breasts.

OhHolyJesus · 12/02/2021 10:06

Julia Hartley Brewer couldn't find out why breastfeeding was offensive either.

I've followed this on FB as well and many seem under the impression that it's males identifying as females who are pushing this. It's a transman called Freddy something who's behind this change.

We can hardly be surprised to find out that it's NOT tw activists behind it though, they have tried (in many instances succeeded) to commander our spaces before.

334bu · 12/02/2021 07:37

Given that both sexes have breast, to change " breast feeding' to "chest" feeding
makes absolutely no sense. Breast feeding is not just accurate but it is also the inclusive term. Transmen like men have breasts, so what's the problem?

Offence is taken by those who prefer to think of their breasts as a chest, to the extent of having their breasts removed.

"Chest feeding" sounds gross to me for some reason.

LouHotel · 11/02/2021 23:39

Thank you, wow I cant believe how long I've been following this forum.. off to get banned from a group I've been in for 7 years I suppose.

LouHotel · 11/02/2021 23:26

Sorry I mean Transwomen. There is a thread here about the la leche league including trans women which is the pathway I disagree with.
