'Why can't they get a gay policeman or a lesbian doctor to read a story? Why does is have to be an adult entertainer dressed as an over sexualised parody of woman'

This.

An older lesbian who has a butch style will do WAY more to challenge gender norms than this sexist shite.

FreeKitties · 23/06/2020 21:32

What’s good is anyone can go on the threads here and see for themselves that no such threats were made.

Porridgeoat · 23/06/2020 21:26

Threats to their life? I recon that’s a lie. Would be rare for a biological woman to make such threats.

gardenbird48 · 23/06/2020 21:12

@Xanthangum - thanks for the tip - I'm new here - will do :¬)

Whatsnewpussyhat · 23/06/2020 21:11

Drag queen doxxed and threatened with crucifixion by Mumsnet users

How the fuck are they allowed to publish such shite?

Drag Queen Story Hour UK being cancelled is a ‘kick in the face’ for LGBT+ youth

Why? Why can't they get a gay policeman or a lesbian doctor to read a story? Why does is have to be an adult entertainer dressed as an over sexualised parody of woman? It's almost like they're trying to get kids exposed to men's fetishes.

Kit19 · 23/06/2020 21:10

waves to the eyeballs in the sky

good to be reminded people are always watching

ShinyFootball · 23/06/2020 21:08

'We are women. And it is our female biology which makes us women. It is our sex.”

OMFG WHATEVER NEXT

Also why is the article going on and on about transphobic when the performer is a gay man? Weird.

OldCrone · 23/06/2020 21:03

MNHQ closed the thread on this. There are a few deletions, but I didn't see anything like the abuse PN have described.

Haveastock · 23/06/2020 21:02

The crucify bit is a huge misinterpretation (deliberate or not?) of the following comment on the person’s Drag Name. As it stands it doesn’t say what they’re saying it says and it’s actually meant to say ‘anyone ELSE would be crucified’

‘I'm sorry but anyone also mocking ADHD would be crucified. Why do they get a pass? It's highly inappropriate. All of it.‘

So many times words are twisted in an hysterical way. Is it lack of comprehension skills or just plain shit-stirring?

Xanthangum · 23/06/2020 21:02

You might want to start a whole new post for that piece of information @gardenbird48

And reflect on how the world might react if they had a 'People of Colour in STEM' programme. Or Muslims, or Jewish people, or disabled people or any other minority, and then said we welcome anyone who identifies as such.

A Drag Queen Story Hour UK event was cancelled

It wasn't cancelled.

merrymouse · 23/06/2020 20:58

X posted with Xanthagum.

Even worse - a persona with an adult orientated social media account that posts sexualised pictures of children’s tv characters.

merrymouse · 23/06/2020 20:54

Presumably the library accepted that somebody should not use a persona designed for adult entertainment (i.e. with an adult orientated social media presence) to entertain young children.

gardenbird48 · 23/06/2020 20:52

in other 'is this true?' the Australian Academy of Science, for their Women in STEM programme have now defined woman as: "anyone who identifies as a woman, including cisgender (personal gender identity corresponds with sex assigned at birth) and transgender (personal gender identity does not correspond with sex assigned at birth) it also extends to intersex and non-binary individuals." I am a bit mystified as to why they list intersex (always either male or female (nothing to do with trans) and non-binary - they don't identify as either so why put them in with a rather crowded 'women' category? This is true btw. :¬(

Xanthangum · 23/06/2020 20:51

To be fair, a lot of the objections were to do with Sabs jokey memes, openly available on his social media, this one for example.

I was on that thread. No one has a problem with funny people entertaining kids by reading books with them. It's the inappropriate crossover from kids to Adults - no, Adult content - that's the problem.

Is this true....
WinterIsGone · 23/06/2020 20:49

The article itself links to this Mumsnet thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a3945350-Leeds-Library-hosts-Drag-Queen-Story-Hour-on-June-22nd

OvaHere · 23/06/2020 20:47

Isn't the actual story here that this drag queen posted sexually inappropriate (for children) things on their open FB profile they use for all work?

I'm personally of the opinion that all DQST isn't suitable for children but if you are a performer doing these then at least have the common sense to have a separate child friendly drag persona and media to the one you have for nightclub gigs.

Not even the bare minimum safeguarding seems to be considered in these ventures.

Thingybob · 23/06/2020 20:46

Very confusing article. Why do they start of using female pronouns for this drag queen but change to male half way through

gardenbird48 · 23/06/2020 20:43

classic DARVO by the sound of it.... Deny the abuse ever took place, then Attack the victim for attempting to hold the abuser accountable; then they will lie and claim that they, the abuser, are the real victim in the situation, thus Reversing the Victim and Offender. Personally, I don't think it is remotely suitable to have a Drag Queen/adult entertainer reading to kids at story time (in character) and from the facebook page, there were some safeguarding issues such as close contact etc with the kids. Mumsnetters are getting accused of all sorts atm - apparently being mean to a trans woman in the Stevenage branch of The Body Shop of all places!!! (they don't have a store in Stevenage btw)

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 23/06/2020 20:40

By ‘doxx’ do they mean ‘insist that checks are made into the background of anyone seeking to be around or otherwise influence children’?

Because that would make more sense (and if there was a thread about it, I missed it, sadly)

IAmFleshIAmBone · 23/06/2020 20:38

Well that gave me a chuckle, waking in fear, thinking that mumsnetters were going to murder him...really Grin

Toseland · 23/06/2020 20:32

Utter hysterical nonsense. Safeguarding comes first regardless of anyone’s feelings.

Z0rr0 · 23/06/2020 20:31

dealt a devastating broadside by Mumsnet users
lol
It was mentioned here, for sure. I can't think many MNers bother to 'clog' Council inboxes. Who would even know how to dox that guy? Or threaten him. (Despite PN calling Aida 'she' as her act, I thought pics implied he lives as a guy.)

Trimazu · 23/06/2020 20:30

I am new and dont understand what going on? somone help

Bananabixfloof · 23/06/2020 20:29

shameless misogyny
Uhh but misogyny ain't a hate crime, cos who could be bothered to police that eh!

And frankly making so much noise about this makes it look weird.

Do you see big worldwide bands or singers having hissy fits when stuff like this happens? Not professional ones.
Either way gigs get cancelled all the time, having worked in the music entertainment business for a long time I know this for a fact. Am certain all the entertainment genres have the same issues. But anyway if a free gig, no big deal, if fees dues then aida should still be paid.
