Irish gender critical women! Can you tell me your stories of anti-feminist types who glommed on to the Repeal The 8th movement? Someone sent me this story and I feel there are a lot more out there.

'Woke Stasi'. 'Wokeus Dei'. Brilliant!

Glinner · 22/04/2019 02:35

yes, this is what kills me. How can you research this subject and not know?

There's a bit of me (quite a big bit really) that wishes that the first person I've seen in the IT (or anywhere in Irish media) to challenge/reject the term cis has both been so cack-handed, and so savaged.

That said I'm amazed that in all his researching for this book he didn't stumble across something somewhere that made him realise the shit-storm that would come for him.

pachyderm · 14/04/2019 17:25

John Boyne's article seemed quite dim and bungling. It always amazes me how many men people blunder cheerfully into this multifaceted longrunning debate, admitting they haven't a clue. Well he's learning something now cackles grimly

InionEile · 14/04/2019 17:18

I saw that John Boyne article and thought to myself his book is going to be a flop. No-one like me, i.e. any sane parent, will buy it and the woke lefties won't buy it either because what on earth could any 'cis male' (even he is is not het in this case) know about trans issues??!? Funny that he tried to use Glinner as a human shield for his piece and is now getting slaughtered by the TRAs anyway. Hope he takes away a lesson on the Wokeus Dei approach - there is no middle ground, only 100% fealty to the faith. Anything else is heresy and you will be burned at the stake! (On Twitter, like).

Guyliner · 14/04/2019 16:44

Hence "not men" being a bit of a problem for women....

Guyliner · 14/04/2019 16:43

Can someone please answer the idiots asking if we have a problem with the word heterosexual.

I am heterosexual.

I do not identify with gender.

Even if it meant "not trans" you can't expect anyone to identify as what they are not.

multivac · 14/04/2019 16:40

I am mildly amused by the outrage about the book's title, though. I have many issues with the story (for example, the moment when Jessica explains to the narrator, who is Jessica's younger brother, that Jessica still fancies girls, and so when/if Jessica, who has no plans for surgery, gets a girlfriend, that girlfriend will have to be "very understanding") - but it didn't occur to me that the title would be so triggering!

Guyliner · 14/04/2019 16:29

Nobody cares about cis people's opinions on the word cis. Especially not ones who write books about trans people that misgender in the title. Getting real tired of books with titles like "How My Husband Became a Woman" and shit.

That twitter thread is hilarious.

So are women meant to pretend they had wives all alomg even though they legally agreed to take that man as their husband?

multivac · 14/04/2019 16:16

Boyne's book is awful :-(

ludog · 14/04/2019 15:46

He'll soon learn that a la carte Wokelism is not acceptable. Anything less than total capitulation is seen as heresy and must be stamped out.

NotTerfNorCis · 14/04/2019 14:25

I don't like the way Boyne tries to deflect criticism by attacking Glinner though. Clearly it didn't work.

R0wantrees · 12/04/2019 13:39

He first came onto FWR to try to make contact with her.
Im sure the thread is easily located

Its a direct message so obviously important to seek permission.

Guyliner · 12/04/2019 13:29

@anotherlass @r0wantrees

Ah OK, that's good. I'm not a twitter person.

AnotherLass · 12/04/2019 13:18

Guyliner - yes he did, he went to some trouble to find her.

R0wantrees · 12/04/2019 13:18

Glinner came to FWR specifically seeking to make contact with the poster to discuss the possibility of sharing
He has said on twitter that he has been in contact & does have permission to repost.

Guyliner · 12/04/2019 13:09

@glinner
I know you erased some bits but that would be identifying to anyone who knew the person I think. Do you have her permission to repost?

3timeslucky · 12/04/2019 10:43

I agree with you Annasgirl. And when you listen to the likes of Pique Resilience talk about the pressures they felt and for at least some of them the mental health issues they were dealing with in parallel with adolescence I can't but question whether mental health is a significant factor (for at least some %). The value of in-depth exploration of what's at the heart of the child (or adult)'s sense of disconnect from their biological sex also comes across in this: www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=0tF0Mykerjw&t=3000s (I realise she is a counselor afaik)

Annasgirl · 12/04/2019 10:28

I'm so disappointed that the WHO has made it out to not be a mental health issue. Regardless of what anyone believes, I think a person needs a psychiatric assessment in order to take hormones to irreplaceably change their body and to cut out a piece of it. You should at a minimum need counselling but I think it is better to say psychiatric assessment as there are so many quacks out there who call themselves counsellors.

3timeslucky · 12/04/2019 10:09

Is this being covered by the Irish press at all? I'm not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing if it isn't.

2BthatUnnoticed · 12/04/2019 06:48

Bumping.

Not in Ireland but recently I saw an online post “many people need cervical scans and they’re important to have, especially for trans men...”

Rubidium · 11/04/2019 22:15

Giving this a bit of a bump because 'Wokeus Dei' made me properly laugh.

I lived in Ireland for a few years and I’ve been disappointed to see former acquaintances seemingly adopt an unquestioning, knee-jerk woke response to this issue. I’m also surprised, because, given their line of work, I thought they would have been more sceptical.
