This is also why MN is disliked - because it does not follow the same rules as the big social media companies so is a direct threat to their power. Kiwifarms is just entering into this combat zone for ultimately the same reason. And its NOT because of trans rights but something much wider and bigger relating to power and control.

Exactly this.

RedToothBrush · 28/12/2018 13:19

You need a large quote scientist:

And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed – if all records told the same tale – then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past,' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.' And yet the past, though of its nature alterable, never had been altered. Whatever was true now was true from everlasting to everlasting. It was quite simple. All that was needed was an unending series of victories over your own memory. 'Reality control,' they called it: in Newspeak, 'doublethink.'

Thats why the dead are transed.

RedToothBrush · 28/12/2018 13:15

Giles, yes a kidney problem.

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/12/2018 13:09

science

Ironic how one well known activist is in fact a Dr themselves.

Am I right in remembering a blunder like this almost killed someone. Something to do with levels of enzymes or something in the blood. That in a female the results would be borderline normal. But in a male they were extremely high/low and dangerous. ? Something like that anyway.

Its already been established that women are sent home and told to suck it up when in fact they are seriously ill. More than men. How on earth can we continue to measure these things and how on earth can there he training and campaigns for Drs/first aiders/ carers etc and even the general public with regards to say heart attack symptoms which manifest differently in women when we cant name what we are looking for and in who?

We don't tell all pet owners to look for myxmytosis so cats who identify as rabbits feel included. We tell people to get their rabbits vaccinated.

The nhs is in crisis as it is without having to do irrelevant testing (pregnancy) and cervical exams to appease people and deal witg the inevitable expensive emergency admissions for preventable or at least detectable earlier on illnesses.

Its fucking bonkers.

Buck Angel landed up in ITU with sepsis because his testosterone regime caused such vaginal atrophy that his vagina glued itself together - creating a pool of goo in his uterus that went nasty.

Poor bastard almost died. No one had thought about the effect of putting a female sexed body into menopause with the use of testosterone.

These female sexed transmen are going to have osteoporosis and heart disease. And stuck together fannies which itch, sting and hurt. It's not ethical.

Scientistagainsttranscult · 28/12/2018 12:58

Also my DP brother is an MD in A&E and has been coming across more people latest who state they're "female" when they're just a cock in a frock and he gets annoyed and reminds them that male and female mean real things.

RedToothBrush · 28/12/2018 12:57

Sone one is going to die surely?

Genocide in Burma has been directly linked to activity on Facebook.

People HAVE died due to the way social media is moderating / not moderating.

Scientistagainsttranscult · 28/12/2018 12:55

Giles that is right, people will be put in medical danger to pander to the delusions of a few freaks. The most idiotic and laughable arguments that I had bits of kids telling me they knew more about was the prostate (my dad died of prostate cancer and I did a literature review to aid my cancer researcher friend with a paper she published) and that women can have a prostate posting links to the Skene's gland, which some refer to as the female prostate but is not the same nor performs the same as a prostate. I'm actually disgusted at how many entitled people think they can lecture biologists and MDs over biology, because they read an article and a paper (normally about intersex and always inconclusive results and often discredited) This croc of thinking they know it all shite needs to stop.

RedToothBrush · 28/12/2018 12:50

Max Fisher @Max_Fisher
I spent months reporting on an aspect of Facebook that's far more significant than most realize: moderation.

Facebook, I found, is going further than it has acknowledged, exerting tremendous — and largely unseen — power over our politics and societies

www.nytimes.com/2018/12/27/world/facebook-moderators.html
Inside Facebook’s Secret Rulebook

Facebook maintains a secret catalog of guidelines and rulebooks telling moderators what to allow or remove. It has sprawled to more than 1,400 pages — which I know because they were leaked to me. We have included a number of them in our story. They are ... a doozy.

This investigation is based on the 1,400 pages of FB internal documents, internal Facebook emails, interviews with moderators who spoke to me at personal risk, interviews with top Facebook executives, and reporting on multiple continents. I think the results are concerning.

There are two things I want you to take away from this story:

(1) Facebook, to address hate and misinformation epidemics of its own creation, is intervening into political and social matters the world over. Like an unseen branch of government, it is governing without our consent

(2) Facebook is doing this all on the cheap, shipping disorganized PowerPoint slides to outsourcing companies it can barely control. And it is making many, many mistakes along the way.

In Myanmar, for instance, a paperwork error in Facebook's rulebooks meant that moderators were explicitly told to ALLOW posts from MaBaTha — a pro-genocide group accused of organizing mass violence, that Facebook had claimed to have banned months earlier.

Another example: guidelines for the Balkans, where ultranationalist groups increasingly weaponize Facebook. But Facebook's guidelines for the region — which shape what users can and can't say, what groups can and can't operate — hasn't been updated since 2016. Filled with errors.

Facebook's moderation policies, which we combed through with the help of regional and legal experts, appear to repeatedly skew in favor of governments, which can fine or regulate Facebook. Some explicitly tell moderators: if you upset the govt, we could get blocked.

One worrying discovery: Facebook's India guidelines tell moderators to flag, as likely illegal, any post criticizing a religion. In reality, most criticism of religion is legal in India. Facebook is huge in India. Its policy — mistake? overcaution? — could have profound effects.

Key paragraph from the article itself

An examination of the files revealed numerous gaps, biases and outright errors. As Facebook employees grope for the right answers, they have allowed extremist language to flourish in some countries while censoring mainstream speech in others.

and

The Facebook employees who meet to set the guidelines, mostly young engineers and lawyers, try to distill highly complex issues into simple yes-or-no rules. Then the company outsources much of the actual post-by-post moderation to companies that enlist largely unskilled workers, many hired out of call centers.

Those moderators, at times relying on Google Translate, have mere seconds to recall countless rules and apply them to the hundreds of posts that dash across their screens each day. When is a reference to “jihad,” for example, forbidden? When is a “crying laughter” emoji a warning sign?

Moderators express frustration at rules they say don’t always make sense and sometimes require them to leave up posts they fear could lead to violence. “You feel like you killed someone by not acting,” one said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he had signed a nondisclosure agreement.

I have no doubt whatsoever that twitter is similar - or that its possible simply to have a single friend 'on the inside' who can make decisions like this without transparency or oversight.

The whole thing is not just about the trans subject but about much wider issues. And you don't have to be a liberatarian to have concerns - equally if you believe in transparency and governing by consent you should be very concerned.

This is also why MN is disliked - because it does not follow the same rules as the big social media companies so is a direct threat to their power. Kiwifarms is just entering into this combat zone for ultimately the same reason. And its NOT because of trans rights but something much wider and bigger relating to power and control.

Am just dropping in here to thank Miranda once again for that article. The predator seems to be able to have anything on them deleted, so when you google that predator's name, mostly only neutral stuff (or that predator's own sites) come up. But Miranda's article is now the lead search result.

(Someone on KF has also offered to host Miranda's site if that's taken down too, which is a result.)

Anyway - thank you, Miranda.

sackrifice · 28/12/2018 12:03

One of the points made on KF is that his tactics are to target girls from other countries.

So they cannot take action against him.

Also, when he filed suits against people, in order to respond their name and address is exposed. To him. Thus making them more vulnerable. So many don't respond. And then he will accept money for dropping the suit. Thus making his money that way.

Worth being aware of the work and resources available from CEOP (UK Child Exploitation and Online Protection command)

'Are you worried about online sexual abuse or the way someone has been communicating with you online?
Make a report to one of CEOP's Child Protection Advisors' etc

sackrifice · 28/12/2018 11:51

My favourite posts on the KF thread are these.

Yes, those pesky [rad] fems were right all along.

Kiwifarms is interesting, not so much because of the stalking etc. stuff, but more because they are decidedly not a feminist site. Some of their staff are transgender. They have a policy that they are NOT there as some sort of crusade, and indeed will delete threads about transgender issues if they aren't deemed amusing but more crusading.

So it's more the case that they are hosting this stuff by default rather than anything else - there is literally nowhere else on the internet that will host it.

Hence that doesn't really say anything about kiwifarms and/or gender critical feminism, but rather more about how the internet has been shaped to protect the interests of men to such an extent that there is only one site remaining to discuss it, and that one is a barely viable site run by one determined bloke.

R0wantrees · 28/12/2018 11:44

Even if you're not a 'MAP' and I would hope most people aren't, sticking up for them should be a source of rightful shame. The fact that Tatchell is still broadening it out doesn't exactly erase concerns that this kind of thing is far more widespread than any of us have so far understood.

I admit to wondering how all this will pan out in the science and medical world.

Sone one is going to die surely?

Identity will not protect you from.prostate cancer or ruptured ectopics. And how can safety be determined in drugs taken whilst breastfeeding etc When you can't even measure reactions in female bodies.

So dangerous

Scientistagainsttranscult · 28/12/2018 11:35

Add to this, scientists I know who are currently working on unrelated projects but who have public funding, have been told to keep their objections to themselves for fear of funding withdrawals. A good friend of mine works in clinical trials and they are having issues now with "inclusivity" for participants, in trials that are vital to separate male and female data due to bio reactions. I have many similar stories, it's frightening what's happening in the science industry at the minute.

Popchyk · 28/12/2018 11:31

Agreed. A lot of the TRAs in the UK are into BDSM and other fetishes (furry, adult baby stuff).

Most of them don't really try to hide it.

And these people are going into schools to persuade children that their bodies are wrong.

Scientistagainsttranscult · 28/12/2018 11:28

Thatchell is an ignorant POS. Youre; totally right it has become a clusterfuck of mammoth proportions. This trans fetish which was once confined to being that has broken free and it's the fact that so many people in prominent places, are into it and have allowed it to happen. The MAP issue you could see coming from a mile off, the transcult is a mask for the new PIE. The fact that grown men are proudly lauding a "lady dick" and changing nothing but their choice of knickers, while telling kids they have to be on medical therapy (that is also a cancer drug therapy) says it all. And pitching that kids as young as 18 months can know gender and 3 yr olds make life changing decisions is laying the way for "kids can consent to sex" And to this day, not one person has provided any empirical or conclusive scientific evidence to me, or anything I haven't been able to shred to bits, regarding neural development of kids being at a level of understanding and consent. It's actually quite frightening.

Mariotta · 28/12/2018 11:17

The trans inclusion and diversity has become everyone's usp. These people who are no different to any one else in the fact they are good bad dodgy rich poor etc but have been elevated to such importance probably to.the point of alienating alot if the other staff and no one wants to admit it was all a huge mistake

Yes. They've gone all in on virtue signalling and, given the size of the institutions and corporations involved, it's a mahousive ship to try and turn around. Clusterfuck of cosmic proportions.

FloralBunting · 28/12/2018 11:14

Broadening = brazening

FloralBunting · 28/12/2018 11:14

Comes a point where you have to ask yourself why, when the utterly abhorrent 'MAP' stuff surfaces repeatedly, some people are so very comfortable standing up for the people pushing it.

Even if you're not a 'MAP' and I would hope most people aren't, sticking up for them should be a source of rightful shame. The fact that Tatchell is still broadening it out doesn't exactly erase concerns that this kind of thing is far more widespread than any of us have so far understood.

R0wantrees · 28/12/2018 11:14

Benjamin Boyce interview with Corinna who has professional and personal insight into the power of TRA influence on tech industry / SM platforms etc:

'Trans Rights, Trans Wrongs, Trans Humanity, with Corinna'

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/12/2018 11:11

I think everyone's just embarrassed. The trans inclusion and diversity has become everyone's usp. These people who are no different to any one else in the fact they are good bad dodgy rich poor etc but have been elevated to such importance probably to.the point of alienating alot if the other staff and no one wants to admit it was all a huge mistake
