Just opened my inbox to this little gem from the lib dems. I'm going to resign my membership I think.

Social convention and the real possibility of other women being in or about to enter the same room is a deterrent of sorts. Being able to just walk in unchallenged is No longer a deterrent.

Thus my violently abusive and pathologically jealous partner who wouldn't let me out of his sight in public didn't accompany me into the ladies'. Some respite. What do you think he would have done if he thought there might be male people in there, Orange?

DeRigueurMortis · 14/11/2018 00:06

being anti-trans rights is fundamentally incompatible with being a Lib Dem

Who exactly is anti trans rights? What rights do the trans community lack? Or at a more basic level who is even Trans?

The Lib Dem's had the chance to seize on this issue at the time the party is at an all time low and provide a reasonable response that reflected the legitimate concerns of many people who, whilst incredibly sympathetic to people suffering from gender dysphoria have valid points to make about the GRA, self ID and contradictions to the EA and implications wrt women's rights.

But no....and frankly as a party have absolutely no political traction or attraction as they continually skitter the political middle ground in a manner as accomplished as Bambi on ice.

sackrifice · 14/11/2018 00:05

oddly familiar yes...

lesbian trans women All hail the straight narcissistic men, what would we do without them?

RedToothBrush · 14/11/2018 00:01

There's some right tyrants in the middle of the LibDems are there not!

On a completely separate topic, how's the Green Party investigation progressing anyway?

Electron1 · 13/11/2018 23:54

There's some right tyrants in the middle of the LibDems are there not!

Fascinating to watch them roll out the same old script, fact free nonsense and the good old TWAW. I know men who are transexual, they know what they are, they agree it's crazy rubbish and not in their name. Why do pillocks like orange snake think we will take them seriously when they do this silly grandstanding. You have to laugh at them really. Daft behaviour. And to what end? It's so myopic.

Anlaf · 13/11/2018 23:48

Ok this is mortifying.

I am a Lib Dem member and i thunderously disagree with Orange's

  • views on self id
  • approach to voter engagement
  • total dismissal of women's concerns
  • thought policing
  • apparently being the young princeling who decides who "belongs" in the party

From Orange "they are free to disagree"

Uh huh www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3399104-Times-Lib-Dem-trans-activists-hounded-abuse-victim-Natalie-Bird-Article-refers-to-Zoe-OConnell-Sarah-Brown

Anyhoo. Lib Dems must sort ourselves out- this is not in line with LD values and is making us look like right tits with members and voters alike

merrymouse · 13/11/2018 23:41

being anti-trans rights is fundamentally incompatible with being a Lib Dem.

Recognising biological sex is no more 'anti-trans' that recognising the tides or day and night. But useful to know it's incompatible with being a Lib Dem.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 13/11/2018 23:31

orangesnake is going a grand job of putting my LD vote firmly in the bin!
Next time they come door knocking I shall have some questions about the difference between gender & sex & the rights of vulnerable women & girls to spaces & opportunities away from men.
LDs won’t listen and don’t care about women.

RedToothBrush · 13/11/2018 23:13

Lens, yes they do. It's called diversity training. At the end you come out talking like a robot chanting 'TWAW, TMAM, non binary is valid' in a really unconvincing, unenthusiastic and monotone manner.

RedToothBrush · 13/11/2018 23:10

I might write an essay about stalin, the stasi, totalitarianism, fascism, nationalism, gender cult, the failings of the press in the 21st century and the decline of democracy.

And clog up the voting booth for an hour whilst I write very small. Just four women in a polling station could reak havoc.

lenaperkins · 13/11/2018 23:09

bittermints yes I know the libdems have their own fervent TRA cheerleaders. It probably is someone else. But the tone is very similar to Adrian which is unnerving ... maybe they go on courses.

Doobigetta · 13/11/2018 22:58

I think my next ballot paper might be decorated with “adult human females don’t have penises”

Bekabeech · 13/11/2018 22:40

People are free to disagree with the party line and party policy, I do on plenty of issues, but there are core values that the party stands by which equality and fighting for the rights of individuals is a main part of, and so I would argue that being anti-trans rights is fundamentally incompatible with being a Lib Dem.

But this is an issue where two groups human rights come into conflict in some areas - Women and Trans. So there needs to be an open honest debate, and checks and balances to give both groups safety. Not sneaking through a fundamental change to existing legislation.

The party policy was made in 2015 - about 1/2 the party has joined since then.
As to the idea that there are more Trans members of the Lib Dems (even adding in their supporters) than Women. Most people do not even understand the issues yet, but as they do, things will change.

If enough people protest then the party leadership will have to take notice - or the party will split.

RedToothBrush · 13/11/2018 21:30

Or Luke the LD?

Bittermints · 13/11/2018 21:24

lenaperkins, it would be surprising. The good doctor is a fervent member of the Labour Party and was pictured with JC a few days ago. Of course, sudden changes of allegiance can happen. A couple of years ago he was a fervent member of the Tory party.

The people who run the LibDemLGBT account on Twitter are very forthright. I wonder if one of them has favoured us with a visit.

RedToothBrush · 13/11/2018 21:12

Hahaha or all the LD supporters in Richmond suffering Goldsmith forever more. Not just Olney.

merrymouse · 13/11/2018 21:04

As a libdem member, I am sure that there will be no value lost from the few people who have an issue with that email.

Again, could you run that past Sarah Olney please?

RedToothBrush · 13/11/2018 21:01

Quentin, I sadly fear they are indeed a member. The thread the other week about the Radical Association was a state.

QuentinWinters · 13/11/2018 20:57

As a libdem member, I am sure that there will be no value lost from the few people who have an issue with that email. The party has continually supported trans rights, and has had pro-trans rights policies for almost its entire history. Those who have an issue with an email like this, which regardless on your views on specific policies like self ID, is about supporting trans people and the trans community, probably don't belong in the party.

I really really hope you aren't an actual lib dem member. This is an outrageous thing to say.

Beyond Brexit they don't know what the party is for anymore.

Given that they aren't going to win a majority and they said at the last conference they weren't prepared to work with any other party, that seems to be literally true.

OhHolyJesus · 13/11/2018 20:45

That's just reminded to unsubscribe. And the Green Party too.
Would never vote for May or Corbyn.

Is the Monster Raving Loony Party still going?

RedToothBrush · 13/11/2018 20:39

Snake is too busy looking up definitions of liberal democracy Searabbit.

The funny thing is that the Conservative and Labour policies mean they also can't eat the LDs alive on this issue. Although sections of the press can (and will) do so.

And quite rightly.

This identity crisis between liberal democracy and a 'Liberal identity' within the party as what did for Tim Farron ultimately. It was gold for the likes of Andrew Neil on the one to one leader interview. Beyond Brexit they don't know what the party is for anymore.

Not only that but Labour is also going to the 'Liberal identity' vote. And doing it better with Momentum.

It's a fucking car crash.

Another one who's always voted libdem and won't be doing so in future because of this.

The 'transwomen are adult females' statement did it for me. I like intellectual rigour in my political parties.

Is it too much to hope that Snakey has disappeared to do some research into biology?

RedToothBrush · 13/11/2018 20:11

I'm not the one who is confused, materialist.

I know what liberal democracy is, and how you can't pick and choose when it applies.

I know what evidence based means and that it applies to all medicine and ideology and medicine don't mix well.

I know that lesbians are homoSEXuals and it's based on sex not gender and if you are a man identifying as a lesbian, it's homophobic and abusive by definition.

Mainly because I haven't totally lost the plot, and am so fucking desperate to' be nice' that I'd sell out all my (remaining) principles!
