I’m thinking of applying for an opportunity on the basis of being non-binary

Don’t want to say too much about the reward on offer - a work thing, with real kudos, let’s leave it there.

But... it’s only open to people who self-identify as transgender or non-binary (or a lot of other words which, having Googled, are synonyms for the same).

Some people don't identify with any gender is one of the descriptors of what non-binary means. And that’s true of me. I don’t identify as female, I just happen to have a female body. I do “present in a feminine way” though. And I’m straight, married, still breastfeeding...

But, I can apply, right? I’m nervous, but fucked off with myself for cowering behind the parapet for this long.

As another oppressed Gender Free female, I’m so proud of you Somerville1234. I actually read the whole thread again, as your message via Sevigny and it was even more a joy this time round. contented sigh

Woohoo fantastic news, well done sommerville.

S1naidSucks · 27/05/2019 19:15

Thank you Sevigny. Barracker got suspended for a week, so I can understand why she’s keeping her head down.

Sevigny · 27/05/2019 19:14

Somerville1234 drew a lot of negative attention because of this thread and beady eyes are still on it. So she’s lying low under a nc. Smile

Redshoeblueshoe · 27/05/2019 17:58

Good update 👍

S1naidSucks · 27/05/2019 17:49

Thank you for that, Sevigny. Is Somerville banned or something? Just wondering why the brilliant news had to be given by you. That’s not a complaint btw.

Well done to Somerville!

LizzieSiddal · 27/05/2019 16:55

Thanks for updating and for starting the #GenderFree movement.

ilovemynonbinarysiblings · 27/05/2019 16:38

Just popping in to say I love that you are all converting yourselves to non-binary 😊 hopefully now you can see why it's so important for you all to be recognised in the Gender Recognition Act.

Manderleyagain · 27/05/2019 12:58

Well done on getting so far through.

Surely everyone has a protected characteristic? Or are they going to stipulate? Eg. Bame not white. Female not male. Believer not atheist. Etc. Sounds a bit like legal hot water for hr.

Thanks for posting the update.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 27/05/2019 12:25

That's a great update. What a significant impact this has had - making people think and finding an alternative category - genderfree.
Well deserved flowers

👏

Just bumping this with an update from Somerville1234.

“I got into the final for the award, but didn’t win. However, my workplace also announced that the next time they run the award they will be opening it up to everyone with a protected characteristic, which is the victory I wanted.
An even bigger victory, that I didn’t expect or anticipate, is that the authentic genderfree identity, and it’s flag 🏁, has exploded across social media and even more importantly real life. I’ve now contacted every company who provide goods or services to my household, updating my details to confirm my genderfree, sex based, identity. Many people respond by saying “oh I think I’m genderfree too! I don’t sense an innate identity either!” Many other genderfree women are reporting the same - brava, all of you!”

That and our own binary MN member (can't remember the order of 0s and 1s)

donquixotedelamancha · 10/10/2018 17:07

I think Stonewall is in severe danger of forgetting about the abuse & violence - physical and verbal - meted out against women who dare to look a bit butch

They haven't forgotten, they aren't interested. When challenged on this on R4, Ruth Hunt explicitly stated that it is not Stonewall's role to consider women's rights- their role is to advocate for 'trans rights', whatever the cost.

scotsheather · 10/10/2018 16:07

But we ARE all non binary, surely? Tell me if you know someone who conforms to every female stereotype for their entire life (or male for that matter).

FekkoTheLawyer · 10/10/2018 15:54

'So that's a woman then'? If she really doent know that then I'm amazed she has babies.
