Goldsmiths, home of witch hunting transwoman Natasha Kennedy needs to sort itself out.

Last night they started harassing a load of 'T*rfs' on Twitter and then today they suggested they might like to spend some time in a gulag - before going on to write a rather long, propaganda piece in their defense.

twitter.com/lgbtqgold/status/1039140880731521025.

I didn't think leftists like this actually existed.

Is this a real account?

I see the Daily Mail posted on it. Good!

KeneftYakimoski · 11/09/2018 14:48

Interesting that Goldsmith SU are heading off the "oh, we wuz hacked" crap at the pass by going straight for "a student with access" (by implication, legitimate access).

placemats · 11/09/2018 14:47

Quite frankly though, this incident should have been in the mainstream media. The tweets were shocking and abusive.

placemats · 11/09/2018 14:44

Goldsmiths college has a lot of 'mature' and overseas students.

Well done to Goldsmiths for posting the statement.

CesiraAndEnrico · 11/09/2018 14:43

Um, Aimee 'My Daddy is a paedophile rapist' Challenor is the LGBT rep at the OU

OH FOR FUCKS SAKE

Now both an ethical and consumer consideration is chucked on top.

How am I supposed to entrust my kid's education to, and chuck the best part of 15 grand at, people who make those sorts of "informed choices"?

It's not like the cash grows on trees for us due to copious trust funds spouting left, right and centre. This is money we've actually worked like dogs for. And saved.

I live under a pile of blankets (when not forced to de-blanket to work) through the winter cos I really feel the cold, but it helped shave a couple of hundred off the logs bill and it all went in his education pot. That money is more than money. It is actual shivering, working through all sorts of lurgies (the joys of freelancing), wearing clothes that are at least 10 years old and fucking meal planning to fruglaise the shopping bill. Which I hate. You try meal planning and shopping listing with ADHD. It SUCKS.

He has a vocational course he can only do this year, and there is no way he'll cope with that and an OU course and his job and his team. Which gives the OU one year to have a bit of a clean up, is that enough time to sort house for them ?

RedToothBrush · 11/09/2018 14:42

From the Daily Mail article:
The student union suspended the organisation pending an investigation, while the university said the tweets were 'inappropriate'.

And

A spokesman for Goldsmiths, University of London said: 'Goldsmiths has a diverse and inclusive community with many people caring deeply about trans rights.

'In this exchange, the language used was clearly inappropriate and we support the decision of the Students' Union to suspend the student society with immediate effect.

We will work with the Students' Union to ensure continued support and representation for LGBTQ+ students.'

And

Goldsmiths Student Union said: 'We condemn the abhorrent content of the tweets and they are in complete opposition to the views and values of the Students’ Union.

'The society have broken multiple union policies and procedures, including failing to adhere to our code of conduct, and we have issued multiple requests for the group to delete the tweets.

'As such, the society have been suspended and disaffiliated from the Students’ Union, pending investigation.'

This is what 'account locked due to safeguarding' means.

It looks like Both the individual involved AND the entire society are now under investigation.

I believe I'm right in saying @LGBTGold has now been deleted from twitter too (I'm getting user not found).

After this it's hard to see Goldsmiths not watching and monitoring LGBT activism at the university like bloody hawks.

What a damn shame.

It really has damaged the university's reputation and a lot of Goldsmiths grads who aren't part of this political cult are going to be mighty piss at how it reflects on them - and they are important to the university and have influence elsewhere in power.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/09/2018 14:41

But then saying they wanted to send women who disagreed with their ideas for re-education in a gulag
and then going on to say gulags are v misunderstood and were kind cosy pleasant places
is really fucking extreme
and offensive

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/09/2018 14:38

Have you seen the statement from the Goldsmiths student union

Wow! That's really strong! Perhaps the people in charge are realising the reputation Goldsmiths is getting, and how that may impact revenue

arranfan · 11/09/2018 14:38

Applause for Goldsmith's SU for taking such decisive action.

Women's Equality Party could learn something from this lesson. Perhaps issuing a rebuttal to CM's tweets as premature and unfounded might be appropriate.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 11/09/2018 14:37

So the LBTQSDRGY++ have flounced from twitter and from being a recognised group @ goldsmiths.

Good.

Urbanbeetler · 11/09/2018 14:35

Have you seen the statement from the Goldsmiths student union? Apologies if I missed this earlier. Please don’t feel the same about everyone there. We sent some amazing students there. (Teacher)

meg john is the one who is mates with 2 people who see "intergenerational sexualities" as the most oppressed of the sexualities, right? As in, has co-written stuff with them?

AngryAttackKittens · 11/09/2018 14:19

Given that this all seems to have started with Kennedy it's astounding to think how much damage one really determined malignant individual can do to an institution.

(And that goes for the OU and the two there too.)

CesiraAndEnrico · 11/09/2018 14:16

Meg John Barker (partner of Edward Lord) is a lecturer at the OU

I am starting to take this personally.

And there was me feeling all slightly smug that I'd avoided an Evergreen Style, Devaluation of Degree risk as compensation for him clinging to Italy like particularly persistent ivy.

Are the faculties kind of insulted from one another, or do they leak all over each other's work and course content ?

NotTerfNorCis · 11/09/2018 14:16

I'm an OU student and I saw the ad with Sam Feeney. Someone wrote a strongly gender critical piece for our course though and got away with it.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/09/2018 14:16

They've been shamed out of most actual leftist groups.

UndercoverGC · 11/09/2018 14:12

Wow. Literal actual tankies. That's not a thing I see often even in my more-lefty-than-thou circles.

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 11/09/2018 14:11

Um, Aimee 'My Daddy is a paedophile rapist' Challenor is the LGBT rep at the OU

Oh Sad

I guess we know why their latest advert is about how the OU is the ideal place for trans students, then.

"I felt like such an outsider though. It was only after I graduated that I met a few more Goldsmiths grads and they all felt the same. No wonder we couldn't find each other - we avoided the place like the plague! This is because entitled rich kids police the place to enforce their privilege. It excludes working class, BAME and non-leftists students which is wrong. "

That's how it works: reject a narrative that goes against your experience, boundaries, criticality and perception - and be excluded.

Accept a doctrine that means putting your experience and criticality on hold - perhaps win the goodies on offer by being included (a foot in the door of the Left-wing establishment) - but risk completely fucking up (because you've swallowed so much nonsense you've lost your criticality) and fucking over others.

The winners were always the people for whom exclusion and disadvantage were only ever a game, tokens, something to be used to gain points and power.

And I think there is a section like that in the Labour Party right now. It IS heart-breaking. And scary.

KeneftYakimoski · 11/09/2018 14:01

Is the OU still free of this stuff?

Since its main trade is people who are older, more experienced, more diverse and in many cases existing graduates doing it for fun I suspect that Aimee Challoner has a great deal less traction than they think. There aren't a lot of impressionable eighteen year olds, nor an obvious channel via which they can be influenced.

Um, Aimee 'My Daddy is a paedophile rapist' Challenor is the LGBT rep at the OU. And no doubt rewriting all their policies.

DJLippy · 11/09/2018 13:48

This pisses me off because I am a Goldmsiths Graduate. Graduated 11 years ago and I can see my qualification being devalued by the day. It's a fucking joke.

The shame is that most students are disengaged from the social structure of the university. I was extremely isolated and all my mates were non-students, which is probably actually a good thing. I felt like such an outsider though.

This place actually destroys your left wing sympathies. When everyone is pushing an agenda on your the natural reaction is to resist. However, it took me years to un do the relativistic post modern thinking. Only just got back to my socialism. Then Corbyn broke my heart.

Is the OU still free of this stuff ?

Well, the OU's latest advert is centred around how doing an OU degree whilst transitioning was great because they felt fully supported, etc., etc.

Potplant2 · 11/09/2018 13:31
  • am involved in hiring decisions. From now on, if I am sifting CVs and I see a recent (say last five or so years) Goldsmiths degree on one, it is going in the bin. If I am on an interview panel and a candidate is a recent Goldsmiths graduate, I will do everything I can to veto their selection. I need the people I work with to be pragmatic and to use evidence and facts to inform their judgements. I need the people I work with to be able to respectfully disagree with others. Goldsmiths LGBTQ[whatever other letters there were] have proved that their students cannot cope with these basic standards of evidence-based reasoning and decent human interaction.*

That’s hardly fair. The students involved in this sort of idiocy will be a tiny minority of the student body.
