The Times investigation - paedophile in women's prison

The Sunday Times have followed up on yesterday's article about the convicted sex offender placed in New Hall prison (which worryingly has a mother and baby unit).
Further details about the prisoner's long list of sexual offences and predatory behaviour towards women and children - which makes it unbelievable that the Ministry of Justice would have placed them in a women's prison. Share token here:

Slightly tinfoil blog site, but summary of concerns about CP here: www.cpexposed.com/about-common-purpose

OlennasWimple · 09/09/2018 20:26

Angry - there's already a thread in AIBU on this case . Probably needs the ST article adding to it

Bowl - CP are a strange organisation. Private Eye have been following them for years, insinuating that they are some kind of Masonic, cult group inveigling their way into power across the world. I attended one of their courses and must have missed the brain washing section, as it just seemed like generic leadership training to me...

Theswaggyotter · 09/09/2018 19:12

I shared on fb this morning - no comments or responses at all
I’ve also emailed my msp the link as well as mentioning the Green Party scandal

Artesia · 09/09/2018 19:02

Thank you to all who wrote and shared these articles. I am due to meet my MP to talk about self ID, GRA and the impact on women. Have been trying to work out how to frame what I want to say so that it isn’t just an incoherent, rage filled rant on my part. I think now that I will send these articles in advance, and ask what his views are, then just listen. How anyone could possibly read these and then try to justify the way we are heading is utterly beyond me.

AngryAttackKittens · 09/09/2018 19:00

Thanks, will take a look.

seafret · 09/09/2018 18:56

I can't typw well enough or reply to indivuals quickly enough for a good result on AIBU or I would. maybe if I get a good brain day I can try.

seafret · 09/09/2018 18:50

Yeah, I agree AAK. I was trying not to be too quick to judge as am feeling rather set off by all of this, but good grief the tone and language is awful. All about how to get the best result for the offender, not about anyone else's feelings or legitimate concerns.

Now I know that the view is that people must be allowed to move forward as rehabilitiated people otherwise a sense of pointlessness may lead to them re-offending, but surely if people are so easily set back and unprepared to deal with the consquences of their conviction (I was going to say consequences of their crime, but it is the victim who truly has to deal with that), why on earth are they being released in the first place.

And of course how many offenders really are truly rehabilitated when they are released? And sex offedners - we aren't talking about petty thefts or smoking weed. FFS.

bevelino · 09/09/2018 18:47

I have just read the Sunday Times article and am beyond shocked that this man was transferred to a women’s prison on the basis of self identification alone. It makes no sense; and the people who allowed this should hold their heads down in shame.

Ereshkigal · 09/09/2018 18:40

They've come up before. Do you know @R0wantrees ?

Bowlofbabelfish · 09/09/2018 18:24

In the comments an organisation called *common purpose’ are mentioned as having high level access and giving ‘woke’ training.

Who are this lot?

AngryAttackKittens · 09/09/2018 18:05

In all seriousness, who here is good at AIBU? Because both this and the erase the criminal history case need a wider audience (and having the Times cover both cases makes it easier to demonstrate that this is not just a case of the nasty feminists overreacting).

Not sure it's possible to overreact to a rapist being put in a women's prison and immediately raping several women.

AngryAttackKittens · 09/09/2018 18:00

Oh, that site rings all of my alarms. How to groom a potential new partner into both exposing herself to risk from you and allowing you access to her children.

seafret · 09/09/2018 17:56

How many chances does this guy get? :(

And yes, while he might have restritctions placed on him being around children by being on the sex offenders register, if/when this guy gets out, with SelfID he can go anywhere where women are.

Hmm, I have just googled for info on how/ when the court may place restrictions on offenders having contact with children and whether this would for example prevent a transwoman or man on the register from using public toilets or supermarket toilets etc.. and the first result is this hub.unlock.org.uk/knowledgebase/information-relationships-children-dealing-social-services/ which is basically an info site for people with convictions, but is also involved with the move to help with the case on the other thread where a transwoman wants to remove their previous criminal history.

I appreciate that ex-offnders will need help to rebuild their lives, but from quick glances, I am not sure I like the site's tone.

tiredandweary · 09/09/2018 17:14

Email sent. I thought I read somewhere that there is a trans group / organisation 'advising' or overseeing these decisions? (if you can believe it!) So I also asked whether that was the case.

Did anyone else notice that the article suggests that this person raped a woman while out on remand and was not then returned to prison?

Yep. And that one of the rapes took place in a bail hostel, something Fair Play For Women warned about in December last year:

Apparently putting rapists in women's prisons is part of a more general "let's make it as easy as possible for them to reoffend" policy.

Katara - I phoned the times the other week to cancel my subscription as I couldn't justify the usual 24/month. They offered me phone + PC access for just 8/month which I happily accepted. I never use the tablet anyway. Make sure you download the freebie book and rent the film and it's all a very good deal. And of course we continue to support this fabulous organisation.

Yes I went with the same offer. So glad I did.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/09/2018 16:44

I've just e-mailed my MP, too. As you say - feeling a little better, but my word, I really feel that this is something I want take to the streets about.

FloralBunting · 09/09/2018 16:36

Right, just emailed my MP. Feel slightly better.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 09/09/2018 16:34

There must be an inquiry and not one that just scapegoats one or two people - there must be proper examination of the trans lobbies who have been allowed to influence policies, procedures and thinking

This.

I think it may be time for a “do one thing” thread.

Better than crying.

Ofew · 09/09/2018 16:19

This case is even worse than I had realised.

The only positive is that I think the tide is turning and this issue is finally being discussed in public with less fear of being accused of transphobia.

But it's absolutely tragic that it takes the rape and abuse of numerous women and girls to get this issue even close to the mainstream media.

tiredandweary · 09/09/2018 16:15

FloralBunting
The Prison Officer's Association want an enquiry. Think we should be asking for that. I know we keep saying 'write to our MPs' but we really need to email them about this - maybe with the Times link to the story.

I am hopeful that now the Press are onto this, they will continue (start for the BBC / Guardian) asking more in depth questions.

I'm about to email my MP now and ask him who authorised the decision, will there be any consequences given that women were actually harmed and, most importantly, why are the government sanctioning putting male sex offenders in women's prisons?
