MNHQ threadpulling- the Manchester Pride thread

I am very disappointed to see this message when looking for the Manchester Pride thread:
‘thread deleted
Message from MNHQ: We think the wording in the OP post is a bit much - so we're going to take the thread down now.’

That was a key thread with constructive resources about an incident at Manchester Pride which could have been a homophobic (against lesbians) hate crime and was arguably inciting violence and wishing to stop free speech and peaceful legal demonstration at London Pride.
The incident was - from memory as described on the deleted thread- a compere on stage at Manchester Pride saying that the Get the L Out demonstrators at London Pride ‘should have been dragged off by their saggy old tits’.

Something nonsexist and inclusive like that, you know, really in the true spirit of Pride and everything.

Constructive resources had been linked to on the thread about investigating and dealing appropriately with the incident- including one of the Get the L out protestors was posting on there. There were links to ways of joining in the listening exercises run by the organisers (suggested to try to prevent a repeat next year.

Various posters were saying they had felt uncomfortable with the atmosphere at Pride given comments of that kind.

The thread itself was really constructive and responded to an important issue about inclusivity for women and lesbians. I think it really was in the spirit of MN.

I don’t recollect the wording of the OP but surely that could have been edited rather than delete the whole thread? There wasn’t an issue with the thread as a whole.

I am really disappointed @MNHQ about this imbalance on the use of the ban-hammer.

Could I respectfully ask you please to kindly consider putting this thread back in your ‘pending decision’ category - so with a chance of reinstating the thread while you reconsider the balance- rather than deleting the whole thread because of wording in the OP?

Thank you and sorry for the extra work- we do very much appreciate MN as a place to talk within the guidelines and lurk and we do recognise that modding is very resource-intensive. We do also appreciate that a lot of the time you don’t pull threads that you are strongly being urged to. Flowers

Did anyone who reported hear back from MNHQ about this?

OP posts:
thebewilderness · 03/09/2018 22:53

Facts are "a bit much" for the MN mods these days? We noticed that.

Standbyyourmammaryglands · 03/09/2018 22:08

Yes I did put that. Gah

Must learn to play nice in future. And yes I wonder who did report it.

OlennasWimple · 03/09/2018 22:01

Blimey, I missed all this

Did anyone note on the thread that Manchester Pride was where Jess bradley (and others) staged a lie down protest in 2016?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 03/09/2018 21:48

really??

That was it

Which plonker complained about that then

FeminismandWomensFights · 03/09/2018 21:47

Thanks womb.

Then we are really just dancing around on pinheads trying not to offend the woman-haters who are constantly moving the goalposts in that case.

Would the thread have stood if she’d instead said she wanted to drag them off by their saggy balls?

OP posts:
WombOfOnesOwn · 03/09/2018 21:40

I had the thread cached at time of deletion. OP said that the actions of these men made her want to punch them in their saggy balls or similar, a bit of fantasy violence.

Standbyyourmammaryglands · 03/09/2018 20:58

Yup.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 03/09/2018 20:42

Be interesting to find out stand

Standbyyourmammaryglands · 03/09/2018 20:38

It was me that posted it. I changed names to standbyyourmammaryglands halfway through the thread. There wasn’t anything that was zappable I’m the thread. The only mildly offensive thing was ‘saggy tits’ - which was actually said on stage .

I’ve seen worse said on MN tbh

Standbyyourmammaryglands · 03/09/2018 20:36

Yes I’d like to know what was a bit much?

Wanderabout · 03/09/2018 20:20

What was the problem with the OP @MNHQ ? We don't get it.

ChattyLion · 03/09/2018 19:15

R0wan- yes me too. It would be really helpful to know what the rule is.

R0wantrees · 03/09/2018 13:59

This has happened a couple of times where there is apparently an issue in the OP, after a lot of posts. However OP's can be edited in other circumstances so I have been confused by some of these decisions.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 03/09/2018 13:45

I don't understand what the problem with the OP was

Ill be honest and say i don't remember every word but the poster concerned wasnt being rude as far as i recall

They just quoted stuff...aimed at BIOLOGICAL WOMYN

Ofew · 03/09/2018 13:17

@mnhq, the wording in thread title was a lot OT but that's not the OP's fault because she was just quoting what someone else had said. What he said was "OT" but more importantly it was misogynistic and insulting. Are we not allowed to draw attention to misogynistic insults now? Is it unseemly and unladylike for women to quote such words?

FeminismandWomensFights · 03/09/2018 13:05

Thanks for reporting the OP as well. I didn’t think of that! Smile

Sunkisses · 03/09/2018 12:32

Really bad decision by @MNHQ. What happened? Was there another trans activist intern at the wheel late last night? Can you see who made that decision, and why? And reinstate the thread. Women must be able to identify and talk about misogynistic hate speech. This is being debated in Parliament right now, is of enormous public interest and you should not be silencing women challenging misogyny like the disgraceful 'drag them off by their saggy old tits' comment at 'Pride'.

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 03/09/2018 12:02

I reported the OP too, asking for a reconsideration of the decision.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/09/2018 10:49

I've reported the OP to ask MNHQ to reconsider their decision.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/09/2018 09:41

So it's a bit much that women protest at misogynistic violence and sexist language on a women's board? Wow.

LangCleg · 03/09/2018 09:04

It's exhausting isn't it. The threads run long enough for women to put their time, energy and effort into it then, poof! Shows you why we still need to keep going though, even though the odds are never in our favour.

This.

AspieAndProud · 03/09/2018 09:00

''Message from MNHQ: We think the wording in the OP post is a bit much - so we're going to drag the thread off by its saggy tits.’'

Fixed that for you.

FeminismandWomensFights · 03/09/2018 08:30

Sorry- error message- that should have been within quote marks, ie ‘dragging’. Allegedly the word used was dragging.
‘Violently’ shouldn’t have been in quote marks- that word wasn’t a quotation. Nobody has said that word was used by the speaker. My bad with using quote marks in haste.
