Identify politics is about the individual, it's a right-wing ideology. Many feminists believe that those that are of the sex male and are activists against women, are MRA.

PointlessTV

Gosh. Someone local should do this.

PointlessTV · 16/06/2018 11:57

So the biased local press are involved in a cover-up? What do national journalists think about this?

Southfields · 16/06/2018 11:55

The Hastings local paper has been sent all the threats from the TRA. They have ignored it. The reporter who wrote about the bomb has now been emailed with full details of the "device" threat.

Iseveryusernamealreadytaken: "If he's missed the point though, how has he made the link between Man Friday and Woman's Place UK? He must have some understanding of what they are campaigning on to have linked this meeting to that event?

"Even if it wasn't that way in the beginning (and I don't know much about its origins) the transactivist movement now seems to have attracted a lot of misogynist men who realise that it is an opportunity to attack and bully women with impunity."

Yes, that's a good point - if he's made the link between the two, he must have some grasp of what's going on. You may well be right, and he's just another misogynistic male who enjoys any excuse to threaten women. The only difference between him and the rest of the TRAs is that he doesn't pretend to be progressive. Perhaps that's a good thing - it helps bring their real agenda out into the open.

This Keem Arkwright person doesn't seem to be a TRA, by the look of it, just your average disaffected right-wing young male. He seems to have objected to the Man Fridays using Hampstead Pool, probably because he missed the point.

If he's missed the point though, how has he made the link between Man Friday and Woman's Place UK? He must have some understanding of what they are campaigning on to have linked this meeting to that event?

If someone had threatened a trans event like this, in the current climate there would have been a score of articles demanding that 'known transphobes and their enablers' this would include you mumsnet 'condemn or condone' it

Yes yes yes yes

So how about it Mumsnet? How about a statement on this?

YES

Cmon Justine. We know you want to.

Just have an 'oh fuck it' moment - you'll have most of the country on your side.

JoanSummers · 16/06/2018 11:25

Thank you Pointless, yes I would like them to see that.

PointlessTV · 16/06/2018 11:24

So how about it Mumsnet? How about a statement on this? "We stand in solidarity with women speaking and organising for women's rights and absolutely condemn the actions of those who threaten them."

@mnhq

JoanSummers · 16/06/2018 11:23

If someone had threatened a trans event like this, in the current climate there would have been a score of articles demanding that 'known transphobes and their enablers' this would include you mumsnet 'condemn or condone' it. And many of them, this would probably include you Mumsnet, would give small statements along the "of course we stand in solidarity with trans people and completely condemn those who threaten them".

So how about it Mumsnet? How about a statement on this? "We stand in solidarity with women speaking and organising for women's rights and absolutely condemn the actions of those who threaten them."

How easy would it be for you to release that simple one sentence statement, given that a serious threat has just been made on a meeting that you must know a number of your regular female contributors will likely be attending?

hackmum · 16/06/2018 11:22

It's only a few years since Paul Chambers was prosecuted for threatening to blow up Robin Hood airport in a tweet that was clearly intended as a joke. So the police would, I hope, take this threat at least as seriously as they took that.

Is it this one?:

Debbie Hayton and Miranda Yardley were signatories, if I remember correctly. I can't find a link, I am sorry.

Oh I missed that Pointless..do you have a link...?

PointlessTV · 16/06/2018 11:01

Those that wrote to the open letter in Guardian recently, should have zero guilt.

JoanSummers · 16/06/2018 10:58

I agree that trans people collectively are not responsible for this

Collectively they are responsible for encouraging, condoning and ignoring violence on their behalf against women who disagree with them about what a woman is. No more than a handful stand up and speak against it.

JoanSummers · 16/06/2018 10:53

This is the academic and trans rights activist, specialising currently in 'trans children', Natacha Kennedy.

Kettlepotblackagain · 16/06/2018 10:51

ClareFlourish - Hi Smile

Do you agree it is up to you and those within your community to fight back against this? Are you directly fighting it and standing with us to stop the abuse and violence?

PointlessTV · 16/06/2018 10:51

I am very concerned about the bomb making materials found in the area where a bomb threat against women was made. Is there a journalist on here that can find out more?

JoanSummers · 16/06/2018 10:50

Natasha, and Natacha, is a name with connotations related specifically to human trafficking of women for the sex trade, and more generally with prostitution. (Apologies to any actual Natasha's out there for bringing this up)

Who can say why adult males choose the names they do? Presumably the 'academic' ones think carefully on it and choose the one that best fits the woman they imagine themselves as Hmm

This is Natasha Scott from Hastings winning Miss Transgender Brighton in 2015 at the age of 44.

Iseveryusernamealreadytaken · 16/06/2018 10:47

I agree that trans people collectively are not responsible for this - I have trans friends who are utterly horrified by what is being done supposedly in their name. I also believe one of the speakers at the event being threatened is a transwomen.

However, transactivism (or whatever you want to call this current movement) promotes violence against women. Threats of murder, violence and rape are routinely used (see terfisaslur.com/). Women have been attacked for attending meetings. This has been supported by transactivists and their organisations, with further violence being called for (e.g. Action for Trans Health "we must be radically and transformatively violent"). Then you get the threats to burn down venues hosting women's meetings (with the women inside them). Masked men blocking women trying to attend a meeting () I could go on and on with examples and I'm sure many others on here could.

It's telling that when a transactivist held a 'trans culture' event in a library, the 'culture' involved baseball bats and bloodied t-shirts glorifying violence against women: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3232446-San-Francisco-Library-promoting-VAW-in-the-name-of-trans-culture

Now, I don't think this represents trans people generally - and it's not something that represents the transsexuals that have been part of my (LGBT) community for years - but this is a new, frightening movement based around extreme misogyny and violence towards women.

ClareFlourish

I don't think anyone knows yet what has happened, who is involved or what their motives are.

Womans Place UK have been accused (erroneously) of many terrible things, by many people in the transgender community.

In the last few months many transgender individuals and organisations have been calling for 'allies' to assist them.

We are all required to take responsibilty for what we do and say. I also think we have a responsibility to think clearly about things and consider the consequences our actions may have on others.
