They said "Mumsnet you left us no choice"

I think you are supposed to hang your heads in shame Grin

@KateMumsnet - have you put this on the wrong thread?

KateMumsnet · 06/05/2018 16:13

HI there

Our view here is that, while we cannot control the decisions of others to intrusively discuss individual children's genitals off board, we can and must control it on Mumsnet.

When discussing this issue, please find ways to do so which do not refer to individual children at all.

Some posts on these threads have also appeared, in making their point, to revel in detailing the procedures undergone. We won't allow this about individual children or as a generalisation - there is absolutely no need, and no room for manoeuvre or discussion on this, I'm afraid.

We'll remove posts which do so and we'll take a really dim view if people attempt to test the edges of our tolerance. We know you are motivated by a desire to protect children, but the impact on them is the same no matter who is intrusively speculating about these things.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/05/2018 15:49

Yawn

For example?

Which just implied the op did not care that whoever it was was having a rant about Mumsnet.

OnTheList · 06/05/2018 15:39

I actually did not think of that Blush I blame my meds. Of course they may well be lying. Though there HAVE been some rather odd deletions recently.

Ereshkigal · 06/05/2018 15:15

You mean - they might be lying?

Surely not!? ShockShock

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 06/05/2018 15:13

They do tend to be somewhat challenged when it comes to reporting accurate stats..

Ereshkigal · 06/05/2018 15:13

Having looked through the screenshots posted on that Twitter account, all I can say is thanks to them for spreading such sensible posts about basic biological fact.

Indeed.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 06/05/2018 15:12

Ho ho ho - they tried to log back into Mumsnet but MN's troll defence sheilds were up.

I could screenshot the post but, nah.

Enjoy Ur Obscurity, saddos

LittlePaintBox · 06/05/2018 15:10

I wonder if HQ really did delete 90% of the reported posts though.

You mean - they might be lying? Shock

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 06/05/2018 15:06

Stating that a mother is a female role IS transphobic, according to these nutters. Start capitulating to them and they will keep going until the use of any female word will be verboten. Including 'Mumsnet'

'Enjoy Ur Erasure' indeed

Tinkletinklelittlebat · 06/05/2018 15:02

FGS. Someone on another thread linked across to a reddit thread - I'd never read there before but the awful, awful stuff in the first few posts was enough. All male posters. That is absolutely transphobia, it's truly horrible stuff and I'd never before realised how horrible - although sadly it was also somewhat familiar in style as that's pretty much how men's forums talk about women too. Complain about that in the press and draw attention to it and I'll come and support, it's vile!

The complaints here to MN are about non compliance and questioning, and that's all .

OnTheList · 06/05/2018 14:52

I wonder if HQ really did delete 90% of the reported posts though. As when I looked through that account the other day, there was only one of the screenshots I would say was possibly transphobic. but if near all were deleted, then HQ are just giving into bullies it seems. And of course it will never be enough. It will just go on and on, even if every GC poster was deleted constantly, the next thing would be the 'transphobic; campaigns..men can get pregnant too! Etc.

Ooh! My iPod has just joined in! It's on shuffle and The Who just came on Grin I suspect this will be disappeared, but the serendipity made me laugh out loud

I'm a boy, I'm a boy

But if I say I am
I get it...

Popchyk · 06/05/2018 14:46

I didn't even make that frigging point about sexual fetishists.

The signatories of the letter in The Guardian did. I just said it was important. That's it.

We can't even quote national newspapers now? I just had a look at The Guardian site and they haven't taken that text about sexual fetishists out.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/05/2018 14:45

I keep going back to have a look... maybe we should be supporting her!

Her assertion that some of those posts are 'transphobic' will cause much head scratching! Mad as a box of frogs!

cistersofterfy · 06/05/2018 14:41

@MNHQ deleting that post is ridiculous.

It IS important to highlight the sub-group of people who are cross-dressing sexual fetishists. I was in a relationship with one. They DO exist. It's a valid and entirely appropriate area of debate.

It doesn't mean all trans people are sexual fetishists. But if the trans umbrella expands to include that group then there is a very obvious conflict of rights between people who get a sexual thrill from being seen by women when dressed as a woman and non-consenting female members of the public who get unwittingly drawn into that.

I'm prepared to die in a fire over that point.

OnTheList · 06/05/2018 14:40

Is this the person who was just quoting users and posting 'this is transphobic' over and over? If so, it was getting quite annoying, it was basically spam. Not sure what the issue would have been with, actually talking about stuff? Like 'I think this is transphobic and here is why' and actually joining in with the conversation?

Interesting intellectual debate about thm: if fgm law only applies to girls' labia, clitoris etc then if a parent were to claim their child was AND ALWAYS HAD BEEN a girl then any surgery on that child to reshape the genitals into a more conformable shape would, in fact, fall under fgm legislation?

Popchyk · 06/05/2018 14:34

... and MNHQ have deleted my post where I quoted the letter in The Guardian. Because that account told them to. [Message from MNHQ: We've reinstated this post now]

I will complain to MNHQ. And get it reinstated.

My entire post was as follows. The words in quotes are where I quoted The Guardian letter.

"This is problematic when such male-bodied people, including sexual fetishists, demand the rights afforded to women as a protected sex, including access to their private spaces."

That reference to sexual fetishists is really important.

Gets it right out into the open.

Well done to everyone involved.

OlennasWimple · 06/05/2018 14:31

Having looked through the screenshots posted on that Twitter account, all I can say is thanks to them for spreading such sensible posts about basic biological fact.

To misquote, "You keep using that word transphobia. It doesn't mean what you think it means"

If fgm is illegal, even abroad, why is it ok to remove testes abroad when it is illegal here. Why haven't social services got involved? Seems very peculiar to me.

James Kirkup wrote in The Spectator 'Why are some MPs trying to shut down the transgender debate?'

[extract discussing recent Home Affairs committee- Hate crime]

"(Stephen Doughty MP) said. “Do you think the use of the phrase “trans lobby” is an appropriate one?”

As it happens, Dr Carmichael in her lecture said some things that seem relevant here:

“Gender has become amazingly topical and we have to be really careful not to assume that anyone is exploring or questioning their gender is going to want to change their bodies in line with that. The extremes on either side are not helpful. We need to look at the grey areas in between. To do that we need to be able to talk and discuss these issues. All too often stakeholders become lobby groups.”

She did not name any stakeholder. But her words might be relevant to a charity called Mermaids. Mermaids is a charity that describes itself as “a support group for children and young people with gender dysphoria and their families”. Its CEO, Susie Green describes herself as “parent to a daughter who was born male.” Mermaids is a relatively small charity (it had income of £127,000 in the year to March 2017) with a big reach. It has prominent backers and its advice and recommendations have been absorbed and adopted by many public bodies."
blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/05/why-are-some-mps-trying-to-shut-down-the-transgender-debate/

Janice Turner's response, "Meet me in the lobby". It's about Stephen Doughty's attack on her: "He was referring to a column I wrote last november, to accompany a long-researched Saturday Magazine report on the spike in teenage girls being referred to gender clinics: a 3,500 per cent increase in seven years..."
