Lord Patel/Karen Jones thread - anyone want to go to House of Lords to talk to Lord Patel

Does anyone remember this thread?

Well, I wrote to Lord Patel to ask him why he had invited a violent rapist and attempted murderer to talk to the House of Lords (about the rights of transgender people). He has invited me tot he House of Lords to share my concerns!

I am in shock. The dates he has sent I can't do, I am also sure there are other people who would do a far better job than me. Anyone fancy going in my place??

Thanks Vole. Sorry everyone Blush

Still, Bradford > West Yorkshire Police > links with Mermaids (see the PosieParker threads)

UpstartCrow · 13/03/2018 10:21

If Lord Patel has a background in prisons, then he must be aware that statistically, the majority of female prisoners are non violent with a history of DV and head trauma.
The last thing they need is to be incarcerated with male rapists and murderers.

Just popped on to say thank you to twofalls (excellent letter - agree with everything you wrote) and Datun. Please do take this opportunity. I agree with pretty much everything Datun writes on this topic. If you go you will be representing me and my concerns too.

TheQuestingVole · 13/03/2018 09:58

Hold your horses everyone - this is not Narendra Patel who was president of the RCOG - he is a top flight scientist. This guy is Kamlesh Patel, Lord Patel of Bradford.

His professional background is prisons, social work and mental health care and policy.

SmurfOrTerf · 13/03/2018 09:57

Monsterous I have been wondering too, what are they teaching in biology lessons in school.
and does this mean my O level biology is no longer valid

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/03/2018 09:08

Remember he was an obstetrician and leading light in the the RCOG and wider medical community.

If presented right, he is more likely than most to 'get it' re women's safe spaces and transing children.

BeUpStanding · 13/03/2018 05:49

Hurrah! This is excellent news. Goes to show that writing a letter can have an impact.

Burglar bloke: twitter.com/confirmedturf/status/968727280435462145

pisacake · 13/03/2018 04:54

He also invited a male burglar who preyed on 102-year-old women, don't forget that part.

LineysOfArabia · 13/03/2018 02:02

This is very positive

Definitelyanamechange · 13/03/2018 01:52

Like so many others, my first thought was take Datun. I'd be surprised if he'd be willing to meet someone else instead but surely you'd be allowed to take someone with you. Well done!

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/03/2018 00:53

Great work twofalls. You and Datun must go. Please.

Anyone who has invited a rapist transwoman, clearly doesn't know the first thing about any of the issues.

Actually, it's really encouraging that he wants to know more (maybe I'm being naive?)

And please bring him up to speed about Mermaids too!

TheMonstrousRegiment · 13/03/2018 00:32

I don't know if this is relevant to mention in the midst of all of this, but has anyone in the government given any thought whatsoever to actual education/research. In following this ideology, what exactly will happen to biology in school at all levels? How will this cross borders in terms of science in the world? Will countries following this ideology become more backward in the field of science than other countries who do not ( seeing as no one will be able to discuss sex, reproductive organs, etc )

Sorry this prob sounds kind of muddled. I hope someone more eloquent can put this into words. I just think that this is yet another point that the government needs to consider in the big picture ( thought maybe not for this particular meeting ).

Badgerthebodger · 13/03/2018 00:06

Twofalls you star! That email was fantastic. Very much hope you and Datun can go and be the turfy dream team Flowers

newtlover · 12/03/2018 23:38

my MP tells me that 'transwomen are women' so anything like details of past or future meetings would be useful

TheSecretMole · 12/03/2018 23:29

Twofalls if you decide to ask him about GRA and self-recognition, there was a meeting in Parliament about 6 months ago where Miranda Yardley and others spoke, I’ll try and dig out the notes in case you find them useful.

TheSecretMole · 12/03/2018 23:26

Agree, it is a really good letter! Good on you for sending it.

Assigned errr I guess so! Though I still get lost down corridors so maybe don’t question me about specific directions Blush

Datun · 12/03/2018 23:22

twofalls

Yes, sleep on it. I know it's nerve wracking. But we have the only qualifications needed, we are women.

Pick which ever date is good for you. If you want to make it the one that gives you more notice, do it.

I can swot up on the case. And gather as many stats as I can etc.

Anyone who has invited a rapist transwoman, clearly doesn't know the first thing about any of the issues.

So whatever information we give him, however brief a time we have, can only be good.

PM me tomorrow.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 12/03/2018 23:20

That's a fabulous email twofalls!
You & Datun are going to be brilliant FlowersGinFlowers

TheMonstrousRegiment · 12/03/2018 23:14

Wow @twofalls excellent letter! I can't even express how inspiring it is the way you stood up for the victims and their families ( they would appreciate this very much ). This is so important!
Thank you so very much for doing thisFlowers

And yes, definite dream team of Datun and twofalls for the win!FlowersGin

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 12/03/2018 22:59

How would one 'test' you?

Ask you about the third cloister to the right before the chamber?

The price of a beer in the MP's bar?

LizzieSiddal · 12/03/2018 22:55

Maybe it would be better to get Lord Patel "turfed" quietly, and see if he peaks/has peaked, before involving photographers and the press. A private chat to try to make him see beyond the bullshit.

I agree very much with this.

TheSecretMole · 12/03/2018 22:45

I didn’t mean doing some PR in a negative way, more posting it to twitter in a “Really positive discussion about X, we talked about X etc”... and I can take some photos inside parliament too obviously. Anyway, just a thought!

MyOwnShed · 12/03/2018 22:45

Great letter! Hope you get to go.

TheSecretMole · 12/03/2018 22:43

Oi AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth!

I name change regularly and I don’t want my job linked to all my other posts and be identifiable..

Feel free to test me if you don’t believe me though Wink
