Lord Patel/Karen Jones thread - anyone want to go to House of Lords to talk to Lord Patel

Does anyone remember this thread?

Well, I wrote to Lord Patel to ask him why he had invited a violent rapist and attempted murderer to talk to the House of Lords (about the rights of transgender people). He has invited me tot he House of Lords to share my concerns!

I am in shock. The dates he has sent I can't do, I am also sure there are other people who would do a far better job than me. Anyone fancy going in my place??

Thanks for the update. Also worth flagging to Janice Turner, Sarah Ditum, Andrew Gilligan, Julie Bindel and anyone else with influence who has tweeted about this issue.

OlennasWimple · 10/09/2018 17:57

Thanks for the update. Keep at it!

failingatlife · 10/09/2018 16:30

Thanks for the update! They are obviously hoping you will give up. Please don't! Grin

UnderHerEye · 10/09/2018 16:15

Hi twofalls,

Thanks for updating, and thank you for doing this! Actually i think it may be a grace that the date kept getting put back because recent developments absolutely add strength to the discussion of why we need to be concerned about penises in women’s spaces- they can’t keep ignoring the mounting pile of rape/assaults/violence/etc

Good luck and keep us all posted!

MsBeee · 10/09/2018 16:13

Can we email the Spectator James Kirkup and let him know. That is appaling.

SturdyEarmuffs · 10/09/2018 16:09

That's ridiculous OP, but well done for keeping at it.

GColdtimer · 10/09/2018 16:03

I realised I'd never updated this thread. To date I have had the date changed by Lord Patel's office 6 times. And they keep suggesting 8am and 6pm which is really difficult for me to do (they know this). I keep emailing but his assistant hasn't responded for a month now. But I will email again. Especially with regards to the latest news.

Fantastic achievement Twofall Please let us know what happens

cromeyellow0 · 12/05/2018 12:41

Ah thanks for the info! :)

I had imagined that Lord Patel fell into this inadvertently, without knowing the criminal records of his invitees. But he's obviously taken on the plight of transgender prisoners (i.e. trans-identified males) as a personal cause.

I would be most interested to know who funded the report linked above. That might be a question to pose to Lord Patel, if he ever actually agrees to a meeting ...

Datun · 12/05/2018 11:37

My last communication with twofalls was that she was still trying to find a date, because they kept changing the arrangement.

fascinated · 12/05/2018 11:34

I was wondering about this.

cromeyellow0 · 12/05/2018 11:30

Any update on this?

I just realized that Lord Patel was one of the authors of this report from Dec 2017:
'Inside Gender Identity: A report on meeting the health and social care needs of transgender people in the criminal justice system'
www.ciellp.net/inside-gender-identity.

@twofalls
Are you still looking for someone to attend? I am happy to take your place / join you.

Good luck... you and Datun would be AMAZING...,keep trying.... Fingers crossed you get a date!

CecilyNeville · 30/03/2018 13:30

How disappointing of him, but I suppose we should expect these things. Well done for sticking at it though - I really hope it leads to a meeting that he adheres to.

borntobequiet · 30/03/2018 07:21

Missed this first time around, hope something comes of it, well done.
WRT Science teaching in school - teachers live in a sea of cognitive dissonance, expected to instil in their students the ability to think critically, while simultaneously believing wholeheartedly in every new crackpot nonsense theory promulgated by the DFEE/SMT/some random school governor who read a book.

GColdtimer · 30/03/2018 01:43

Nope. Have tried to pin him down. No date forthcoming. I won't give up though. Very frustrating. Feel
Like he thought I wouldn't meet him
And when I looked serious, changed his. Mind.

Was just thinking about this on the back of the Brian Paddick stuff this week - any further developments, Twofalls?

GColdtimer · 22/03/2018 09:06

Isn't it just smurf.

SmurfOrTerf · 22/03/2018 08:58

Curious isn't it

GColdtimer · 22/03/2018 08:46

Just another update. Still trying to pin down a date. Every date I can do suddenly becomes unavailable!

Will keep you all posted.

Wow had missed this. This is brilliant, twofalls.

Nosetothesun · 16/03/2018 15:46

I'm not sure if you've come across this / or if it's of interest?
"This book, which gives vital information about everything you need to know regarding the Prison Service regime for transgender prisoners, is a must read for everyone involved in the Criminal Justice System. Sarah Jane Baker has used her experience of being a transgender lifer who has served over 25 years in 30 male prisons to give a true insight into what the prison system provides to cater for transgender needs, as well as areas where it falls short in providing an adequate service."

Sorry not clear there
