Is there any interest in being part of this? and what do you think the priorities/focus should be?

Frankly, if the Tories unequivocally and emphatically dropped this, and promised me that my rights are protected, I'd hold my nose and vote for them for the first time ever, as I think this is the single biggest role back of women's rights in 200 years. And nothing is more important than your rights.

I agree. I also would never have dreamed of voting Tory. But if they publicly drop self ID and affirm the idea that female rights need to be protected and women are female and trans identified males are different I will vote for them. And I've told my Tory voting Mum this.

therealposieparker · 08/03/2018 13:45

UKIP grasped the mood of the country and pushed forward with their agenda very effectively.

therealposieparker · 08/03/2018 13:42

I agree with GirlScout. I too would be compelled to vote Tory if push came to shove.

therealposieparker · 08/03/2018 13:41

This could be a collaborative single issue party. The issue is women!
Issues I see:
Caring and free labour
Children
NHS and health
Sex based protections
DV
And so on.

Non partisan.

Most pressing goal to ensure that sex based exemptions are upheld and GRA unaltered... until we can roll back the 2004 act!!

GirlScout72 · 08/03/2018 13:35

PS despite my personal opinions on UKIP, when I say cross party, I mean it, if female UKIP voters agree women are female, self ID is bonkers, and women's rights are important, they are my sister in this fight, and I will stand with them and any other woman who feels the same. Hands across the Aisle style as per the USA.

GirlScout72 · 08/03/2018 13:30

*roll back

GirlScout72 · 08/03/2018 13:29

My feeling is it should very much be arranged the principle of

100 years of the vote and no one to vote for

I think it should most defo be a women's party, not a feminist party, this is for your granny, your next door neighbour, your midwife etc

And its organising idea should be women are female

from that all other injustices can be tackled, you can't do anything about sexism (and all the ways it impacts women and kids) if you can't see sex, or measure sex based injustice

That it is offensive and dergrading to women to be told we don't exist, and that we cannot organise in our own right.

Coalition of indy candidates is interesting. As let's be honest, unless we have a candidate in every seat, most of us can't vote for it anyway.

So perhaps it's more about making a very bloody big POINT very very loudly, and waking up great and the good that we aren't happy, and they are losing millions of votes. I think it's about being strategic.

And emboldening other MPs and candidates to be braver in opposing this, and then we could look at tactical voting.

Much as I hate to invoke the name of the fascist little shit, look what Nigel Farage and UKIP achieved with one seat and one issue.

Surely it's about getting a grip on the discourse, TAs have been very clever and sneaky getting control of the terms of this debate and there is absolutely no reason why they should imho. So surely its' about public opinion and political pressure as per UKIP did to the Tories to get what they wanted. (not suggesting we are anything akin to UKIP btw, I just mean if that bunch of morons can swing a nation, so can we).

Also, I think it has to very much be cross party, that ANY woman no matter her politics is welcome, as long as she is in agreement that women are female, and we are a distinct biological and political class.

Frankly, if the Tories unequivocally and emphatically dropped this, and promised me that my rights are protected, I'd hold my nose and vote for them for the first time ever, as I think this is the single biggest role back of women's rights in 200 years. And nothing is more important than your rights.

Ereshkigal · 08/03/2018 12:59

What about branding it using the word "female"? Most people don't seriously challenge that TIMs are the opposite sex to "cis" women.

Ereshkigal · 08/03/2018 12:57

Extention of legal exemptions, some of them not optional

This is absolutely what we need to push for. For the expectation that female spaces will be exempt, not the other way round. I do support repealing the GRA but I don't think it will happen.

MumOfTheMoos · 08/03/2018 12:55

Oh yes, freedom of speech - v important!

MumOfTheMoos · 08/03/2018 12:54

I agree with “AstraiaLiberty” - it needs to be quite focussed on a specific set of interelated issue - if you make it too broad then you will exclude people.

I understand the desire to lump things in that impact women (such as basic income etc) but I think it will distract.

For me the fundamental issue threatening women is:

Sex vs Gender and sex segregated services & spaces
Data collection based on sex as the primary key not gender
Misogyny as a hate crime

OvaHere · 08/03/2018 12:52

I'd support a single-issue party campaigning for the protection of single-sex spaces, freedom of speech, and the rights of children to be GNC without being medicalised.

It would have to be a single issue party as outlined above to prevent all TIMs in disagreement joining to control the narrative. If it had a broader female agenda as the WEP did it would go the same way as them.

This way there is no need to exclude TIMs but they would have to be in agreement with the core aims of the party to join ditto with any other men who wanted to join (unless you were intending it to be a women only single issue party).

fuckoffsnow · 08/03/2018 12:50

Sex not gender
Women’s rights
Children

BetsyM00 · 08/03/2018 12:48

What about a coalition of independent candidates that campaign on the 3 aims given by Astraia? Individuals can also campaign on additional issues.

womanhuman · 08/03/2018 12:42

What astraia said.

terfsRus · 08/03/2018 12:41

The issue would be if this bullshit is passed into law the new party would have to take in TIMs as well or risk being shut down for illegality (can't believe I'm writing this)

AstraiaLiberty · 08/03/2018 12:39

I'd support a single-issue party campaigning for the protection of single-sex spaces, freedom of speech, and the rights of children to be GNC without being medicalised.

I wouldn't support a party with broad socialist aims.

Patodp · 08/03/2018 12:39

Basic income

Yup.
Universal basic income will not be possible while we're in the EU, so a party supporting this will need to be Pro (soft!) Brexit.

Patodp · 08/03/2018 12:36

Now the WEP has collapsed there's definitely a gap in the market.

A party that recognises both sex and gender as important and continues to distinguish between the two.

Wanderingwomb · 08/03/2018 12:34

In

MeltingSnowAfterHeavyFall · 08/03/2018 12:32

Basic income

MumOfTheMoos · 08/03/2018 12:32

Great idea! In order not to fall into the WEP trap of of being all things to all women (including men) and therefore end up being as much use as a chocolate tea pot, it’s the right thing to list a set of policy aims that people can agree with and pursue.

I’m in awe of so many on these threads!

UpstartCrow · 08/03/2018 12:31

I support an agenda of 'sex not gender', but dont think a single issue party would succeed.

I think there are wider issues that feminists are concerned about, that make society fit for purpose such as the NHS, minimum standards for housing (which we used to have btw), and provision of social housing.
Affordable childcare, decent standards of education, access to higher education.
Affordable utilities.
Affordable basic foodstuffs.
A basic standard of living.

Its just common human decency.

WooWooSister · 08/03/2018 12:27

I think this is a great idea. I love GirlScout 's suggestion of including misogyny as a hate crime.
I'm not sure how single-issue you're planning to be? Could we include tougher sentences for DV and EA?
