I wanted to start a new trans friendly thread and say a big thank you to our trans posters who have posted long and eloquent posts about the transphobia they have suffered, who perpetrated it and how it has affected them.
curry, pidgeon and harv.
Thank you for sharing those painful experiences with us. I am sure I'm not alone in saying I stand with you in your right to be recognised as transwomen and live life free of violence and harassment.

Also thank you to the people who have trans family members and are concerned about how the current push for self-ID is affecting them.

Flowers Cake WineBrew for all.

I love this board.

I know a few trans people who are all friendly.
It's the crazies on Twitter that get me

OP posts:
PidgeonPodge · 26/01/2018 22:43

Sorry to hear that Whatnextxx Flowers

I'm friendly Smile (though I appreciate it's getting harder to think that)

Whatnextxx · 26/01/2018 22:04

Trans and friendly should never be in the same sentence as it does not exist, speaking from personal experience as being a woman who was assaulted by a person infected by TMV (Trans Mind Virus)

iamawoman · 26/01/2018 17:57

Yes pidgeonpodge that is exactly how i feel everytime i read something that a transtrender has decreed - that a woman can be anything that a tra deems him/her to be - like we are just animated sex dolls - will that we with or without a vagina madam😀

2018username · 26/01/2018 17:33

Finally read the original thread!

Think I love swerfyterfy a bit!

Thanks for posting curry and pidgeon Flowers

Glad it wasn't just me who couldn't find harv

Apart from the threat to woman's right and obvious safeguarding issues with children the great tragedy of all this is that this actually makes the lives of curry and pidgeon and others such as Kristina, Miranda, Debbie, Hope and Jenn from twitter much worse. Lots of these people have had life experiences that I'm eternally grateful that I haven't and the movement to help them isn't! The only people it's helping is misogynistic MEN. It is beyond awful.

Jozxyqk · 26/01/2018 15:27

*biological male adults.

Jozxyqk · 26/01/2018 15:25

In addition, I find it deeply disturbing that public policy on this matter seems to be being driven by a number of very vocal, increasingly aggressive, mostly male adults. Who were allowed to come to their own gender identity in their own time & on their own terms. Increasingly they are using aggressive tactics to bully their way into the forefront of the discussion by any & all means. They wish to determine & direct public policy that will affect the ongoing sexual & physical health, mental wellbeing, & reproductive ability of young people, many of whom have not completed or even commenced puberty.

Smacks of the Paedophile Information Exchange. (BBC news link) I trust that Lily Maynard won't mind me using the attachment, which I got from her Twitter.

It's just a shame that that same kindness that meant people were happy to, of their own free will, make life a bit less painful for me has been taken advantage of by a large group of homophobic, woman hating, violent shitheads

Yes! Exactly. I don't call TIMs trans women anymore or use she/her (unless I'm trying not to get in trouble at work) because I feel like that was a courtesy that has been abused. I look suspiciously at men dressed in feminine clothes, assuming they are appropriating woman identity rather than assuming they were cool gender benders as I remember from the 90s. I have never felt further away from gender non conforming people and that's so sad. I don't like this rift but it has been forced upon us.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/01/2018 14:22

Nor who created it either. No man ever quoted from the works of Andrea Dworkin or Sheila Jeffries before attacking a trans woman.

HedgerowAnimal · 26/01/2018 14:20

I think it's a dreadful shame that there's such a stigma against transgender people

And the elephant in the room is that it's not radical feminists online, on Twitter, or at meetings, who enact that stigma.

The actual (as opposed to "literal") violence against transwomen is by men, beating them up, raping them, harassing them.

Jozxyqk · 26/01/2018 14:12

I think it's a dreadful shame that there's such a stigma against transgender people. If the stigma weren't present, I suspect the whole "transwomen are women" debate would be less of an issue, because it would be less of a problem to be perceived as trans.

Personally, having been friends with a trans person as they went through the process, I have nothing but respect for anyone who goes through it. Years of self-doubt, probably bullying, isolation for being different from most of their peers. Hormone treatments for life, a number of surgeries, some of which have varying degrees of success. Issues with dating. Lack of fertility. It seems a terrible thing to go through.

Men with Autogynephilia, on the other hand... that's a specific sexual preference. I'm not saying it's not legitimate, but people ought not conflate the two. I dare say some couples are happy in relationships where the male dresses as a woman & finds it arousing, & the female is happy with that, & that's their choice & it's fine.
What I personally have a problem with, is biological males reaping the benefits of their male conditioning & advantages in society, saying they are transwomen, then bullying lesbians & calling them transphobes if they don't like their female penis.
*Biological terms, for the avoidance of doubt.

Being a woman is not a costume to be changed, like the colour of one's lipstick.

DodoPatrol · 26/01/2018 14:10

I did wonder, couldn't be bothered to look back through the thread, and vaguely seem to have confused Harv with JennySelf. Oops!

QuentinSummers · 26/01/2018 14:01

I was talking about harv from the transformation street thread. Had a big impact on me, although she was a bit pissed off with us at first

OP posts:
OnTheList · 26/01/2018 13:49

I cannot find any posts by harv on the last thread Confused have gone back over it twice

Have came across harv elsewhere on the board though, seems pretty pleasant.

Still cannot believe the OP ignored the very transpeople they claimed they were there to support. Along with eh rest of the virtue signallers. I can only deduce from that that they do not support transpeople at all, they support transactivists.

QuentinSummers · 26/01/2018 13:34

This seems to me as if you are saying men can be women until they do something wrong? Why do the seemingly nice men get to use the word women, but others don't? What is the definition of woman?
No, what I am saying is I will do other people the courtesy of calling them trans women until they do something very male.
I don't believe men can be women.
I am not as binary as men/women (although I am binary about sex).
I think trans woman/trans man are necessary and valid categories.

I have serious doubts that the motivation of people I would call TIMs is to be perceived or accepted as socially women hence I won't call them trans women. They don't deserve the courtesy from me.

These are my personal views on the terminology and others will have different ones.

OP posts:
BigDeskBob · 26/01/2018 13:17

"I'm happy to call a trans woman a trans woman and use pronouns.
People who present female but commit male crimes/act male I would call a TIM"

This doesn't really make any sense to me. A women is an adult human female, not someone who behaves in an acceptable way.

This seems to me as if you are saying men can be women until they do something wrong? Why do the seemingly nice men get to use the word women, but others don't? What is the definition of woman?

Badgerthebodger · 26/01/2018 13:16

Nice thread. Very much agree with everything on it, as ever you wonderful people articulate my thoughts better than I can.

I was talking to my Mum yesterday and she called me a terf, I tried to explain why and what I was thinking but she wouldn’t have it! It’s nice to have a reminder that actually we’re not all demon harpies that wish trans women didn’t exist.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/01/2018 13:06

Like, men can wear skirts. That is allowed. That is OK! But clearly this person has no issues with his body or overall appearance at all, and has not "transitioned" in any sense, he's just put on a different outfit. I too have many different outfits in my wardrobe. What does this have to do with either sex or "gender"?

The people who drop in to virtue signal always seem to think we're all a bunch of conservative church ladies and it's sort of grimly hilarious because I dunno about everyone else but I've spent most of my life around alterna culture and have always had friends who were GNC, whereas the virtue signallers sounds like they have an idea of how gender roles work that wouldn't be out of place on The Flintstones.

LangCleg · 26/01/2018 13:01

It's just a shame that that same kindness that meant people were happy to, of their own free will, make life a bit less painful for me has been taken advantage of by a large group of homophobic, woman hating, violent shitheads.

Yes. The horrible thing is that for every person that I would be happy to do that for, it seems that today there are a hundred that I wouldn't.

This is a massive backlash against women and I feel as though I must assert and defend my boundaries with no quarter.

I'll continue to treat trans people in my social circle as women. But I'm afraid that's the best I can do at the moment.

I'm sad for you, Pidgeon, I really am.

PidgeonPodge · 26/01/2018 13:00

And I agree, it appears that the nutters want 'transwoman and 'woman' to have literally no meaning at all, anyone can be either one. It's a free for all, grab the label you fancy.

PidgeonPodge · 26/01/2018 12:57

Oh no please don't feel uneasy for saying it! The wonderful thing that I discovered about this forum while lurking is that discussion on these difficult things is 'allowed'.

Also sadly I think it's just got to a position where it needs to be said.

I am aware of the biological and mental disorder realities for me, and though it was pleasant for people to overlook those in the past I also believe it is dangerous to do so now in the majority of cases in light of what is happening (especially on the internet)

I'm probably even more of a 'TERF' than most as I actually think a tighter GRC is called for ( I don't really understand why you can 'legally' become another sex if you still have the sex organs of the body you are trying to escape from - but then I only really understand my own situation)

And the term 'identify' is a pile of wank.

Sorry, my blood pressure shoots up whenever I think about what a wreck of everything the TRA's have made for those trying to live in peace.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/01/2018 12:56

Even after years of watching this whole thing escalate and get weirder and weirder I still had a moment of "wait, what?" when I saw the video of that guy in Wales who I think works for Stonewall now with the lush facial forest who says he's "expanding the boundaries of womanhood". When I was a young person first engaging with what would now be called the queer community nobody would have called someone like that a trans woman.

It's like the Twilight Zone, everything's gone all wonky and words no longer mean what you thought they did.

GuardianLions · 26/01/2018 12:53

Has anyone linked this thread to the last one?

DodoPatrol · 26/01/2018 12:52

Kick me if I'm sounding patronising, by the way. Not intended.
