Laura Brand, would you stand by your man? Trigger rape.

Russell Brand has been charged with 3 counts of rape, 3 counts of sexual assault and 1 count of indecent assault.
He was at court today for day 1 and his wife was there supporting him.
I’m not judging her it isn’t a situation I’d ever want to be in but it’s made me think… if the police knocked on my door and my husband was charged would I support him?
I don’t think I would, it must be hard if the man you’ve married has always been loving and respectful to you but I know for a fact how hard it is to get these cases to trial.

I don't know enough about this case to comment on Laura Brand specifically.
But. If someone is charged with an offence, they are still innocent.... until they are found guilty. Equally, they may be found not guilty. How could we know until the court case was completed?
I would imagine that most wives would assume their husband to be Not Guilty, so of course they would support them.
It is disturbing how many people seem to think that an accusation automatically equals guilt.

Pedant61
It isn't just one accusation though.

VeganConvert · 14/10/2026 12:03

In my opinion all charges aside , he never made any attempt whatsoever to be anything other than this authentic self and seemed to be very open about his interests. It’s always been known he was at best a bit of a sex pest creepy child catcher who ate the thesaurus type so she must have a high threshold to have had anything to do with him in the first place.

to add by child catcher I mean the style of the character not a child predator.

I think she liked marrying into fame. Her sister is famous and a high achiever, her dad is a famous sportsman and she sold her soul to get her own fame. Now there's no going back.

I hope the women are believed.

I find his religious conversion highly suspicious. I suspect he genuinely doesn't think any girl would not consent to him.

Cherrytree86 · 13/10/2026 20:39

He’s vile. Absolutely no idea what she sees in him.

TofuTuesday · 13/10/2026 17:22

I just assumed he was a massive shagger and a bit of a twat way back when he first was everywhere so I think she possibly went in thinking that’s what he’s like and these people are making it up/rewriting it for some reason.

WhatDoRacoonsSay · 13/10/2026 16:22

Absolutely not, but then this has been known for a long time, longer than she's been with him so she clearly doesn't care.

dustabsorber · 13/10/2026 16:19

Also, if the CPP get a guilty verdict, they will be able to bring other weaker cases because the burden of proof will be lowered.

dustabsorber · 13/10/2026 16:15

Didn't Bare Grills baptise RB fairly recently. Not good for his image of RB convicted.

I have often wondered whether she had left him in light of the allegations, so was very shocked to see her there supporting him yesterday. I wonder whether he coerced her into being there to make him look better? Like 'look my wife is standing by me, so I couldn't have done it'.
I also think that 6 different people coming forward with enough evidence for an actual trial is totally different to having one allegation with sketchy evidence.
(Am I right in thinking it was more than 6 people who came forward, but the 6 assaults he is accused of are ones for which there is substantial evidence? I could be wrong here).
Anyway, he is extremely manipulative and controlling and to me it looks like she's under his spell completely. I saw a story on Intagram today on Lalaletmeexplain and it’s a video he posted yesterday, (on the first day of his trial!) of him and Laura discussing Noahs Ark being real and she's talking with such passion about it.
I had wondered whether she'd followed him into this 'I love Jesus all of a sudden' narrative or not, and this answers my question

Like others have said, rapists get not guilty verdicts all the time, even when the evidence shows otherwise (the case of the young boys raping the girl in the woods and filming it comes to mind). So a not guilty verdict doesn't mean he hasn't done it.
She knows him well, she met him during his hedonistic times so knows what he's capable of. I don't think she's doing herself any favours standing by him, and I would love to know what her sister Kirsty Gallagher makes of it all as she seems very down to earth

Gelstick · 13/10/2026 16:09

I suppose she'll have been gaslighted into believing he's been targeted because of his fame and money, that he's the victim.

It's probably one of those things where no one knows how they'd respond until it happens to them.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 13/10/2026 16:04

In literally every photo I have seen of Mr and Mrs Brand arriving at court in the last couple of days both of them seem to be smirking and/or amused by the whole thing.

It's extremely odd conduct.

DiscourteousDiana · 13/10/2026 15:40

I judge her, harshly.

This!
Gosh would hate some of the posters on here too be jurors.

Jimmy Saville never saw a court room, neither did Fred West.. Do you presume they are innocent?
People judge pre trial and if my husband was charged with raping 6 women I’d have to conclude he was probably not the man I thought he was.

A friend of mine stood by her man, even when he was convicted and went to prison. It's easy for us to be objective from the outside, but it must be hard to reconcile the kind loving man you're married to, with the monster he's accused of being.

As well as losing the person you love, you would also have to deal with all the "how did she not know" speculation, and the realisation that your judgement may be off. I imagine it might be easier to convince yourself that the woman is lying.

And at the end of the day, millions of women stay with men who they know for certain to be rapists (because they themselves are the victims of the rapes), so it's not surprising that women stay with men if it's not definite.

fando · 13/10/2026 14:35

I judge her tbh

Even if hes found guilty he will get a fine and community service at the most. He might be required to attend a perpetrators course only.

If he is found guilty of rape the starting sentencing tarrif for an adult (i say that because of the two recent cases involving teenage boys) is a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of life. Never heard of a "perpertrators course" any chance you could supply a link?

Waterbaby41 · 12/10/2026 21:20

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty. He has not been found guilty of anything as yet.

He quite literally admitted it in a text message to one of the victims and asked for her forgiveness, it was verified as coming from his phone.

ExtraHotDoubleShot · 13/10/2026 14:18

Lifeomars · 13/10/2026 14:13

Hiding in plain sight, I think they get an extra kick out of it.

Or it’s easy for them to pass it off, and therefore their behaviour, as jokey and play dumb that it’s actually fucking horrendous.

Lifeomars · 13/10/2026 14:13

TFImBackIn · 13/10/2026 13:20

The documentary was really shocking. He was literally on stage telling people what he liked to do to women when it clearly wasn't consensual. I notice that if anyone in the jury admits they saw the documentary then they have to say so and then can't be on his jury.

If I were his wife I would have left him when I saw the documentary. I wouldn't have been able to get past that. However I imagine he's a gaslighting maestro.

Hiding in plain sight, I think they get an extra kick out of it.

Are there cases where this has actually happened to an adult convicted of multiple counts of rape? Can you link?

Schrodinger-esque, that’s exactly it @ElectoralControversy ! Like you can only believe something about someone if a court has decided it. That’s just not real life is it? Lots of people believe the Michael Jackson allegations (me included), despite his acquittal, just based on the allegations themselves, and MJ’s own public words and behaviour.
