I think you didn't try hard enough to find other work. If you are reasonably intelligent, you could find work - shops, cafe, care work, childminding, - and also perhaps retrain.

The truth is it's 'easier' to do what you're doing as it doesn't demand any training, you can choose your hours, you won't be paying tax or NI, so what's not to like?

My mind has very occasionally slipped to this as a solution rather than working (I don't really need to work as have paid off mortgage and have investments so I work part time and near home) but I would never seriously consider this. I'm not entirely sure why OP decided to be 50 in their story. Probably its what floats their own personal boat.
They do reveal a lack of understanding of both their subject and their context. For example, that young men who pay for sex with older women do so because the older woman looks young. When the attraction is typically that she isn't young. Also that the fact of being child free means a 50 year old womans appearance would be frozen in time, because cell degeneration and gravity seemingly doesn't exist for the child free.
So, huge pinches of salt are in order here I think.
