WTF just happened?

Haven't been feeling well for a few days, have had a sickness bug and haven't been able to keep much down.
Sitting on my laptop in bed watching YouTube just now and all of a sudden with no warning, my eyesight went totally black, my head was pounding, I felt warm all over and my arms were tingling. It went within 10 seconds or so but I genuinely was terrified for those 10 seconds.
Something to worry about or just related to being dehydrated etc?

Ring 101? That sounds scary.

Wonderfulequipment · 05/09/2026 22:44

No medical insight but do you have someone with you?

Mistachio · 05/09/2026 22:45

Sorry not 101. The medical one.

dreamiesformolly · 05/09/2026 22:46

I’d ring 111, that needs checking out.

Doctordoolittle · 05/09/2026 22:46

Yes I would absolutely call 111. It sounds like you blacked out, and if you were sitting at the time that is particularly worrying. Unexplained black outs also have implications for driving (eg 6 months ban) unless a clear reversible cause has been identified and treated.

I do thankfully!

Yes I'd be ringing 111 too and getting seen first thing Monday. Bless you I can imagine that it was very distressing too. Hoping you feel better soon.

lisaloo88 · 05/09/2026 22:47

Potential TIA, warning for potential stroke, call 111

TeenLifeMum · 05/09/2026 22:47

It could be an aura migraine - I thought I was going blind - but best to get checked.

I do get migraines but my auras generally tend to be zigzag lines with no pain - it's very odd!

Please call 111 ASAP

Ophy83 · 05/09/2026 22:49

Has the arm tingling stopped? You may need to go to A&E - definitely call 111

Do you take any medication that could have gone out of your system due to the d&v?
I’ve read that a good way to rehydrate is to have a sugary drink or to add sugar to a glass of water, then drink it with a salty snack such as a piece of cheese.
As you start eating again, stick to bland ‘white’ foods such as white toast, Rice Krispies, white rice etc (look online).
But I think it may also be a good idea to call 111 just in case it’s something more serious that is not linked to the stomach bug.

TheChosenTwo · 05/09/2026 22:50

That sounds really quite concerning, please call 111 and let them advise.
i get aura migraines and regular head pain migraines (don’t know if these have a specific name!) and never had anything like this before.

Papngarlic · 05/09/2026 22:52

Can you check your BP if you have access to a monitor?

None at present, will get some electrolytes

I don’t want to scare you but my Dad did lose his vision once for a couple of minutes and after ruling out other causes the dr felt he’d had a TIA caused by unmedicated AF… he’s now on a blood thinner.

Pastapenguin · 05/09/2026 23:00

get to an a&e immediately but do not drive yourself, possible TIA or heart attack.
Needs checking out now.

peppy23 · 05/09/2026 23:02

needs checking out most definitely. The tingling and vision problems could be signs of a TIA. Best to get it ruled out

You'll put electrolytes on your shopping list but you won't ring 111?

Beekman · 05/09/2026 23:06

At the very least please call 111.

itwasyourshowallalong · 05/09/2026 23:06
