Could the photographer's email about another enquiry be a sales tactic?

I am going through three really big purchases. A wedding (next August), a flat purchase (this month) and renovations of the flat (next month).

I am cash strapped. I found a wedding photographer I like a month back for my wedding and I asked for pricing. I do want them. They've just emailed me to let me know another couple are enquiring about my date.

My date is midweek in August next year. Their last wedding on their instagram was march.

What are the odds this is a sales tactic to get me to book?

If you want them book them. If you're not that bothered, leave it and take your chances.

As an aside, my sister is a civil registrar and this year, for the first time, Thursdays are their busiest day after Saturdays.

You can’t know they have only done four weddings this year because of their social media! I would not let a wedding photographer use my photos if they paid me a fee for doing so.

I would just say ‘OK, thank you for letting me know and you must take the other booking from the other couple if they want to book that date’ and then if the photographer is free when you are ready to book, great. And if they aren’t they aren’t.

My DH is a wedding photographer and dates in august are often booked 2 years in advance. If you really want this photographer get it booked, they can only do one wedding a day.

seen on another platform she's had four this summer

Most Bride and Grooms do not let photographers use their pictures as advertising so do not assume that they are not busy.

If you want them book them or take a risk. Mid-week weddings are cheaper and August is a very popular month so if people want to get married in August they might well have to settle for mid-week.

Really makes no difference to a random day next August. If you want her then book it

There is no way to know really. It could be a sales tactic but August is very popular for weddings. There’s no way I’d have let my wedding photographer put my wedding on their instagram when I was paying full price so it’s risky to assume they just don’t have bookings.

August is popular, until you have your deposit paid it’s open season.

August is a really popular month.

A year in advance is pretty standard.

Book them if you want to use them.
