I feel my biological clock ticking but DP isn't yet ready for a baby and wants one more year. How long did it take you to get pregnant with your first?

SquashPenguin · 25/07/2026 18:48

Six years, finally had my baby when I was 38.

Larrythecatforpm · 25/07/2026 18:48

ds1 was a happy accident! 😂 Ds2 took 5 years.

CurbsideProphet · 25/07/2026 18:54

It was 3 years from starting TTC to DC being born. 1 year DTD, then some investigations, and then IVF.

I was nearly 34 when we started TTC, about to turn 37 when DC was born.

I had no idea it was so common to take so long

1st time.

12 cycles at age 39/40 (but half way through that time I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid, so I guess only around 4 cycles once that was corrected with medication). Had unplanned pregnancy at 45 after having sex once that month outside of what I presumed was my fertile window!

About 20 mins. DH's comment... 'I thought we'd have to do a lot more practicing than that' Sad

Me too

Error404FucksNotFound · 25/07/2026 19:17

About 9 months if my maths is right.

DramaAlpaca · 25/07/2026 19:17

First one - eleven months, I was 28
Second one - first time trying. I was 30, and still breastfeeding DS1
Third one - four cycles, I was 32

dicdicnurse · 25/07/2026 19:19

In my antenatal group (10 mums) at one end of the scale was a couple with an unplanned pregnancy and a couple who conceived first month trying, at the other a couple who had needed IVF having tried naturally for a few years. The rest of us were somewhere in between!

Summerunlover · 25/07/2026 20:16

8 years and a lot of fertility treatment. Started trying when I was 25. Then 10
years for the next one.

inkgirl · 25/07/2026 20:21

Took me just over 2 years for my eldest i found out I was pregnant just before I turned 24

Alwayswonderedwhy · 25/07/2026 20:22

First month both times. Age 30 & 33.

ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer · 25/07/2026 20:24

I’d been on the depo for nearly 20 years before I came off in August 2022, fell pregnant the following March so 7 months later. Then 9 months after my son was born I got pregnant with my little girl whilst on the mini pill! I had my first at 37 and my second at 39

Plasticdreams · 25/07/2026 20:24

9 months

APinkAndSpottyGiraffey · 25/07/2026 20:28

The honest truth about getting pregnant seems to be that no one knows, even if you’ve been pregnant before, easily, it might not happen easily next time - sadly.

For me it was fast but for friends, not.

One truth does apply though, the law of sod. If you’re 15 and desperate not to be pregnant you’ll catch first time. If you’re 40 and desperate to be pregnant you’re much less likely to get so. Sadly.

Peonies12 · 25/07/2026 20:30

6 months but then has a miscarriage at 11 weeks. Waited a few months then got pregnant again within 4 months. So nearly 2 years between starting trying and having our daughter. I was 31 when we started trying

Minnie798 · 25/07/2026 20:31

Pretty much straight away after coming off the contraceptive pill, We had a LOT of sex. Aged 24.

TheyGrewUp · 25/07/2026 20:36

It isn't that simple @haymackes. I don't think I've had unprotected sex without getting pregnant.

Between 32 and 37 five pgs that reached the second trimester, three the third, two children. I lost count of the losses between 5 and 7 weeks.

Good luck.

haymackes · 25/07/2026 20:46

for those who struggled if you don't mind sharing, was there a physical issue such as low sperm count or endometriosis?

AsanteSanaSquashBanana · 25/07/2026 20:53

1st (age 30) - 8 long months of actively trying
2nd (age 33) - accidental pregnancy
3rd (age 33) - 1st month after miscarriage

I really do think the difference between my 1st pregnancy and other 2 was my level of fitness. Before my 1st I was fairly inactive and slightly overweight. When we conceived the 2nd and 3rd I had just finished training for a marathon so I was the fittest I've ever been.

devfire · 25/07/2026 21:01

Within a couple of months both times, I was 19 and 27

Irregular periods on my part and low sperm count on kids dad part. I also had cysts on the ovaries
