Is Long Sleeves the 21c version of Green Sleeves and did Anne Boleyn really have green sleeves or was she Elphaba in disguise?

Weeellokthen · 22/07/2026 19:09

How do you know. Fifty cuffs could be a new trend for long sleeves for the over 50's 😂

How ageist of you 😡anyone can wear long sleeves you know

🤣 @ScottBakula A roll (the correct answer) was one of my suggestions too.

Love the dressing down ... we certainly aren't dressed up wearing them.

Nope you are wrong ( puts up fifty cuffs ) Barm cake is right , Barm is the old name for the yeast that rises to the top of beer that was then scraped off and stored in round tins ( that looked like cake tins ) then used to make the bread produce.
So there !

This was my DHs argument, we dress down when wearing them a gown was/ is a formal dress and tbh I think his way of thinking makes more sense.

@LadyAddle It depends what part of Scotland and what part of that part of Scotland and on what street you ask!

I call it a bath robe, partner calls it a dressing gown. He's from somewhere it is commonly called a Goonie, I'm from somewhere it's commonly called a Hoose coat. These are hills people will die on 😂

A dressing gown is what you wear over your pyjamas and a bath robe is what you wear in the nuddy after getting out of the shower/bath.
only two cuffs on each. It’s the law, I have spoke

Ah well, Scotland has plenty of hills to choose from.

🤣 Enough for every variation to have a few hills each.

I'm just going to stay quiet for a few hours now. Whilst I come up with a drip feed. Or don't.

Don’t forget start a brand new thread with your update.

AbbyAnneToe · 22/07/2026 22:47

LadyAddle · 22/07/2026 20:41

Ps @WerewolfOfLoudon - what do Scottish people call a bathrobe?

Kevin.

My trans dog is autistic so surely it is ok for them to bark and bounce on the trampoline at 5.30am Sunday morning along with my screaming children? Not sure how to work Burnham in too.

He’s your unreasonable neighbour who you believe to be a cf having all his mates round late giving them jobs and then complaining about the noise first thing

Disability benefits, parking and wheelchairs/buggies on buses.

bonus points fir having a neighbour who runs marathons but is defrauding the system by getting a free motability bmw car.

In fact if you go on and say you’ve found a black dress which has some white and you’re worried it has too much white - then wait a few pages before linking this

😂😂😂😂😂 you win Mumsnet

ScottBakula · 22/07/2026 21:52

@WerewolfOfLoudon , when I meet my dh he was absolutely convinced it was called a dressing down , it took me and several websites to prove him wrong .

@SereneGoose if you want to start a bun (?) fight ask everyone what the correct name is for a small round piece of bread , roll , bap , cob , stotti, bread cake , or the (right answer) barm cake

JesseDavisGonnaHangOnInThereNSoul · 22/07/2026 21:49

Matching collar and fifty cuffs?

My cleaner/nanny are stabbing each other about (or over ?) whether imma cf for requesting my silky nite frock should be ironed or steamed or cut up for the dress up box...

Cut up all the way, no one needs that much static electricity in bed.

IronEverything · 22/07/2026 21:27

If you really want to see fireworks you need to go for the jugular. Call us Karens.
