Skeeter Syndrome?

I haven't had reflaring bites but I've had some that itched for several days. Old fashioned Piriton settled them down

My son gets very bad reactions to mosquito bites. Probably allergic. But he had a mosquito bite that re-appeared a year after he was bitten. I was mind blown. It was gone again in a few days.

put anti histamine cream on and put a plaster/dressing over the top so it stays in contact with the skin

Ended up with antibiotics this week after a bite turned into cellulitis.

I scar with almost every mosquito bite I get and the reactions are worsening as I get older.

Anthisan cream is much more effective for me than hydrocortisone cream, and I need fexofenadine as the tablet. Also ibuprofen tablets for the nastier bites.

And horse fly bites give me dinner plate sized reactions so I've had to stop taking the dog to a particular set of fields.

I have this. Anthisan and hydrocortisone help, but the only thing that really gets rid of the swelling is steroid cream like Betnovate. And I am religious about applying mosquito repellent. I don't find Jungle Formula particularly good. Incognito is better and also something called Cinq sur Cinq (available online, not in supermarkets).

I have this. Every bite I get expands to the size of a saucer, then blisters, then scars, and they itch and re-flare for a very long time. If I have several at once, it gives me a slight fever.

I suffer really badly from mosquito bites. They other swell, pus blisters form then burst and I’m left with a scar. I take amtiobtics and steroid creams on holiday every time, I don’t find Jungle formula great. I will try the cinq stuff. Also I have heard there a these pen like things that you can press on a bite as soon as it happens and it prevents the itch? Does anyone know what it’s called?

I have very bad reactions to mosquito bites. It has made many holidays utterly miserable.
My advice is the following:
Use ‘Smidge’ mosquito repellent liberally. It’s nice stuff and works very well.
If bitten use a Beurer heat pen ASAP on the bite a a few times. This kills a protein in the mosquito saliva that causes the reaction.
Use a hydrocortisone cream on the bite.
Take a Chlorphenamine tablet ASAP (or even pre-emptively if you think there’s a high chance of getting bitten).

Yes it's called After Bite. Wonderful stuff. I often use it for nettle stings.

I find with mosquito bites when they start itching again I put a cold wet wipe on them until the itch goes. Repeat as often as needed.

I had skeeter syndrome, my hand blew up to more than double it’s normal size, had to take a lot of antihistamines to get it under control (was hours from the nearest hospital overseas, found an Australian bush medicine blog with good emergency advice for when there’s no doctor.

Yes, I’ve just finished a course of antibiotics to clear up some bites which blistered, spread, felt incredibly hot to the touch, itched to the point of being painful. I had one last year which lasted for weeks and I now realise that I’m susceptible to skeeters syndrome.

wash bites immediately you find them. I find that putting the back of a boiling hot spoon over them also gives relief if done immediately. Eurex HC cream is supposed to be good.

Unless they all reacted it’s unlikely SS and more likely infected.

This is my normal reaction. I didn’t realise it has a name!

Apart from using repellents and physical barriers, I find that the very best thing to do is take Piriton (chlorphenamine). I don’t wait until I’m bitten, I take Piriton if I think there is a chance I might get bitten. If we’re going to sit outdoors on a summer evening, I take a Piriton, and another when I go to bed. If I’m in a mozzie or gnat area, I’ll take Piriton regularly 4 x day.

I discovered this by accident, while treating another allergy, and it has absolutely transformed my summers.

For me, Piriton is the most effective on insect bites. Cetirizine and Loratadine also work, though sometimes need a Piriton as well. But Fexofenadine has no effect on insect bites.

I sometimes use the heat treatment (Beurer from Amazon) but it only really helps a bit with the itch. It does not prevent the reaction.

Yes, you can. As advised by my dermatologist, Piriton can be taken together with any of the three one-a-day OTC snti-histamines . But do not take any of the one-a-day anti-histamines together, unless medically advised to do so. I suspect they also would be fine, because of the amount of Fexofenadine I am allowed to take (4 prescription or 6 OTC, for several days at a time) but IANAHCP.

The other good thing about chlorphenamine (or Piriton if you want the branded version) is that it can make you sleepy - so can help you sleep through the itchiness haha. I have the same experience as @Dilbertian that this is the best antihistamine to take.

The pen you wanted is probably the Beurer heat pen and not After Bite as was suggested by another poster. After Bite is good but much gentler.
