No sympathy for him.

Yep 👍🏼

WRT to the Met sharing info, it still isn’t clear what the allegations were in the letter of January 2019. The Met have just said “allegations relating to the Duchess’s security”.

I thought that there were also allegations about TM?

You didn’t miss much ! , needless to say my actual comment was far removed from the alleged comment!
however you know fully well as much as I do that I’m always being accused of saying things that I have not ! 🤷‍♀️

Deflect all you want. You alleged they took illegal drugs because of something they do with their tongues. That is not discussion that is defamation. Be careful you can be sued for that.

Well that is but the truth

Harry has written and spoken extensively about his drug use which he believes is "therapeutic"

Meghan clearly also uses marijuana as she gave away bags as wedding favours at her first wedding and there are photos of her and Jessica Mulroney smoking joints on a beach just before her wedding to Harry.

Exactly. She’s really shot herself in the foot here. Aren’t there PR companies which specialise in crisis management? IMHO she should have called one in before she opens her mouth. This is a really delicate matter.
I still don’t understand why no one in the Met thought of sharing this information with the FBI.

WRT to the Met sharing info, it still isn’t clear what the allegations were in the letter of January 2019. The Met have just said “allegations relating to the Duchess’s security”. We are all assuming that the letter refers to the abhorrent allegations now being brought up by her brother, but neither Meghan nor the Met have confirmed what the letter actually alleges 🤷‍♀️

I just meant for the task of working for the Sussexes. Talk about a Labour of Hercules!

True!! , honestly despite the occasional entertainment and the fabulous banter and jokes with all the posters on this board ( that I would miss so much ) , at times like this when it’s so obviously self sabotage that I wish for the time before ham when I was happily ignoring the royal family and concentrating on more interesting topics like knitting and crime dramas!

The Palace would have been accused of racism if they hadn’t let M become a WR straight away .

Would they? No other royal wife in recent years became a working royal immediately on marriage. Not Kate, not Sophie. It would have been entirely reasonable to say that they were giving Meghan time to settle into her new life, especially as she had no experience of royal life or even Britain in general, and became pregnant within months of marriage.

Anyway, sometimes you have to do what is right regardless of what brickbats are hurled your way. Letting her represent the monarchy so soon was a mistake.

You're bringing common sense into it again, IcedPurple - it doesn't do, you know Wink

Of course a settling-in period would have been wise, and of course most normal people would appreciate this, but H&M aren't most people and Meghan in particular revealed her game plan very quickly so here we are

I completely agree about the risks around Meghan "taking on the job", Atlusvue, but not about them being unable to know her background

With the resources they have I expect they had a pretty good idea if not actual detail, and could well have seen the entire mess coming - though short of locking Harry up I'm not sure what they could have done about it

And in fairness that's not to blame Meghan for everything. I'm sure plenty of us would struggle with joining all that comes with the RF, but also that most would have the sense not to try, especially if our background in no way fitted us for it

But if you're an ageing-out actress who has come to London specifically to bag a footballer or a prince or some such you'd secure the prize and worry about the rest later.

Really? …if this is an example of his work I’d say he’s being paid far too much !
there isn’t one of us on this thread who couldn’t have advised them better for free!

I imagine he advises them well.

I also imagine they do not listen him.

There’s a reason why they have such a high staff turnover.

Why would M have been shown the letter?

Why wouldn't the Met have passed it on?

So if she misremembered the date then the allegations weren't the reason she went nc with her dad when she did?

Exactly. She’s really shot herself in the foot here. Aren’t there PR companies which specialise in crisis management? IMHO she should have called one in before she opens her mouth. This is a really delicate matter.

StrawberryWasp · 24/10/2026 16:41

Why would she lie about the date?
It makes more sense that it was a mistake.

An odd mistake given the gravity and significance of the event. But I cant see why she'd lie?

What is more odd to me is that this has not preoccupied her for 8 years above all the nonsense attacks she's made on Harry's family.

I thought it was plausible @PrivateCitizen . Though blighted by the fact that for it to work, Meghan would need to admit she made a mistake.

PullTheBricksDown · 24/10/2026 16:29

IcedPurple · 24/10/2026 16:22

Who refers to mid September as summer?

And is a specialist police dept really going to tarry for a month in dealing with correspondence sent to a high profile member of the royal family?

On that second point, the Met employed Wayne Couzens as a diplomatic protection officer. They have also employed officers who shared and joked about photos of murdered women in WhatsApp groups. Frankly any suggested instance of their negligence, poor practice and unprofessionalism is possible in my view.

Meghan, dear, you have enough on your plate without adding to it by venting your rage on here. I appreciate that it’s half term, the weather’s crap and the kids must be bored and antsy (wind always makes my DCs bad tempered) but please. Drink some herbal tea in your lovely cups and step away for your own sanity. Have an unmumsnetty hug

Met police receive a letter in December 2018 and it’s date stamped 9/12/18.

Following a thorough review of Met Police systems and records, we have confirmed that in January 2019, we received a letter...

That blows my theory then.
