Honestly, there’s something going on.

How would this person know to write to this particular MET dept? Unless they had knowledge of the system?

My theory is that the letter was sent to Meghan herself, but letters to royals are screened by staff. The staff realised it was dodgy so sent it to the 'Fixated' dept of the Met, who in turn shared it with Meghan.

Which of course could be completely wrong! I will admit to having been wrong on the existence of the letter in the first place!

AtIusvue · 23/10/2026 22:53

Or guidance from someone of where to write to

Like Meghan? 😆😆

I fully expect Harry to start going on about security again (and vindication)
i actually hope he doesn’t because this subject (CSA) is too serious for Harry to be commenting in any way, particularly given his less than sparkling performances recently.

He will. That'll start in the next 24 hours

The letter is written by someone close to Markle Snr stated by the Sun.

AtIusvue · 23/10/2026 22:49

Letter written by someone that knows Markle Snr:

‘The Sun has seen the letter written by someone close to Thomas Markle Snr who cannot be revealed for privacy reasons.‘

Soooo why didn’t they directly tell Meghan? I’m guessing they are American? Why would they know to write to a certain Met dept??????

And if this was the case and she thought it was a deranged fan, why did she cut her Father off? She either believed the allegation or she didn’t, if she believed it why not send it to the child protection unit? None of this is making any sense whatsoever.

Given that the Met gave her the letter I think it would be unfair, however low an opinion I or anyone have of her generally, to think if it didn’t end up in the right department that is in any way her fault.

If, as they appear to have confirmed to the 10 o’clock news, the Met received the letter and shared it with her then any inaction on it is 100% down to the Met.

BemusedAmerican · 23/10/2026 22:49

The Chilean lawyer on reddit did a great analysis of the situation. Well worth reading.

So Meghan saw an anonymous letter accusing her much loved father of unspeakable crimes, cut him off without a word, presumed someone else was investigating, kept quiet for 8 years and is now thankful that the Sun newspaper has uncovered this and feels vindicated?

Yes, at least that’s how I’m understanding it.

JustAnotherWhinger · 23/10/2026 22:47

IcedPurple · 23/10/2026 22:44

Yes, to the 'Fixated Persons' department of the Met.

It would be interesting to know if it was specifically sent there or if it was sent to the Met generally and directed there.

I wouldn’t be surprised if any allegations about anyone linked to any of the royals went through that dept as the royal specialist officers will have the best knowledge of the family/friends of the royals.

Exactly.

Thank you - it really doesn't. I'm trying to unpick it because it makes no sense.

Candleabra · 23/10/2026 22:44

I wonder how many anonymous letters are sent to FTAC (or whatever they’re called). They can’t act on all of them without any evidence.

IcedPurple · 23/10/2026 22:44

JustAnotherWhinger · 23/10/2026 22:42

The reporting is the other way round. The letter was sent to the MET and they shared it with her.

Yes, to the 'Fixated Persons' department of the Met.

The MET showed Meghan the letter not the other way around according to her statement or have I read that incorrectly?

Yes, that’s my understanding, @BigWillyLittleTodger.

Lunde · 23/10/2026 22:38

As she sent it to the Met’s Fixated Threat Assessment Centre - it appears that Meghan treated this "letter" as harassment or a stalker rather than a crime to be seriously investigated

The sun:

A close friend of the Duchess speaking with her blessing said: “As a mum of young children herself, she is utterly devastated by all of this.

“Above all, her thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed. Their welfare and protection have to come first.
“After so many years of living with deeply troubling concerns, there is also a real sense of relief that these matters are now being properly investigated.
“She has been guided by legal advice about what she could say publicly and has had to live with the frustration of not being able to speak openly, while trusting that the appropriate authorities would do their job.
“It is a shame it has taken this long for these concerns to receive this level of attention, but she does want to acknowledge and thank The Sun for shining a light on the issues and helping bring the protection of children into sharper focus.’

But did she and her husband, in their privileged position, ensure allegations against her father would be fully investigated?

That's about the size of it.

So she's actually explicitly thanking the sleaziest of the dreaded 'British tabloids'. That is some turnaround.

And we know she never listens to advice so if she'd wanted to talk about this before now, she would have done. Why is she blaming the 'appropriate authorities'? They can only act on the evidence before them, and a 'letter' isn't going to cut it. Now that it appears they have evidence presumably they will act.

Candleabra · 23/10/2026 22:42

IcedPurple · 23/10/2026 22:39

My guess is that the 'letter' was sent to Meghan and was screened by staff, who sent it to the 'Fixated' whatever centre, who in turn passed the information onto Meghan. But that's just a wild guess!

The only thing we do know is that TM was not investigated in any jurisdiction as a result of these allegations.

ITN news at 10 said the MET have confirmed to them that the letter does indeed exist and was shared with Megan.

The chap worded it very carefully so sounds (to me) like there’s still more to come as there was clearly things he wasn’t saying.
