And another musing, the letter has been confirmed as being sent from a person close to TMS so why would this person’s letter be sent to the fixated fan of the royals department?

My theory on that is two fold.

The sender was/is known for sending multiple letters or harassing royals or other famous people already.

And/or any allegation about someone linked to a high profile person (which Meghan absolutely was at that time) or royal goes through that dept because if their expertise in dealing with royals and high profile persons.

He’s coming across very well

They all are. He's very natural with the other guests who all share his enthusiasm for Earthshot, he's obviously very relaxed with them and they get on well. He comes across as being very good company.

BemusedAmerican · 23/10/2026 23:23

Look, if the person knew Thomas Markle Sr, they were either in the US or Mexico. Why not call or email the FBI? Who sends a letter overseas to some weird UK unit that no one has ever heard of?

I really don’t think Meghan should have said anything about any letter. Or anything other than she was distressed, thoughts with victims, pleas for privacy at this difficult time etc.

She just can’t seem to stop talking and the problem is she’s lied openly about so much she just isn’t credible. Who knows what to believe.

I think if she hadn’t then it had come out later that she had she’d have been accused of trying to cover up her knowledge of it.

There will be a decent number of people who know about the letters existence in the police, royal staff, ex staff etc.

Poor Robert Irwin must be dying after those underwear modelling photos were shown 😂

Honestly, he's a natural. Genuinely funny, articulate, self-deprecating and a natural storyteller. Harry should take note.

Did they come back to the UK, knowing that this was coming down the line?

Slightly off topic, but just watching Graham Norton and William is genuinely hilarious! Such a good interviewee. Really nice to see him relaxed and laughing.

I'm sure royals get stuff sent to them all the time, especially as Meghan was big news at the time. I'm sure all mail to senior royals is screened by staff before being passed on to the royal in question. Because of its content, this letter was passed on to the appropriate police department to deal with.

But surely if the palace had received the letter containing an allegation so serious they would have informed Meghan and then told her we will be forwarding it to the police for investigation, rather than Meghan hearing about it from the police in the first instance, surely the MIGS would have given her the heads up.

I don’t know anything about police processes work but surely the Met can’t go around sharing letters/evidence with peoples relatives with serious allegations about the person in question? What if the allegations were/are true? Wouldn’t that prejudice any subsequent case?

I guess a lot depends on the context in which they shared it with her.

Theres quite a difference between “Mad Mary, who has written 7262837871 letters about you and your family has struck again” and speaking to her about allegations.

I was spoken to by the police when allegations were made against my ex. They also said very little after the conversation other than asking me not to discuss it with others - I only know the outcome through other people. So I can believe they would speak to her. Copying the letter is a bit more questionable though and will be interesting to see what the Met say on that.

IcedPurple · 23/10/2026 23:05

BigWillyLittleTodger · 23/10/2026 23:03

If the letter was sent directly to Meghan why does her statement say it was the MET who told her about it?

That will be why there’s no copy of the letter- as it was something sent directly to Meg.

Edited

I think the Met would have made that clear to ITN when they confirmed to them that they received it and shared it with her.

AtIusvue · 23/10/2026 23:04

Even if there no record of the letter, there will be evidence of the Mets assurances that it would be investigated- because that’s what’s she’s claiming.

Wheres that evidence ?

We really haven't got anything close to the full story here.

Maybe the letter writer had a history of sending letters to Meghan? Maybe they were trying to blackmail her with the allegations? Perhaps the Met saw the letter more in the context of harassment, as a poster above suggested, rather than containing serious allegations which warranted further investigation? We really don't have a clue. The existence of this letter should never have been brought up in the first place.

Any teeny non existent chance they ever had of becoming working royals again has been well & truly snuffed out now

IcedPurple · 23/10/2026 22:54

My theory is that the letter was sent to Meghan herself, but letters to royals are screened by staff. The staff realised it was dodgy so sent it to the 'Fixated' dept of the Met, who in turn shared it with Meghan.

Which of course could be completely wrong! I will admit to having been wrong on the existence of the letter in the first place!

That makes complete sense!

That would make sense, that the letter was intercepted, and then sent for investigation.

JustAnotherWhinger · 23/10/2026 22:49

Given that the Met gave her the letter I think it would be unfair, however low an opinion I or anyone have of her generally, to think if it didn’t end up in the right department that is in any way her fault.

If, as they appear to have confirmed to the 10 o’clock news, the Met received the letter and shared it with her then any inaction on it is 100% down to the Met.

I know the MET gave her the letter, I was the one who corrected a previous poster on that, I was replying to the post below that if she had been sent it directly why she would have sent it to that department and not child protection.

As she sent it to the Met’s Fixated Threat Assessment Centre - it appears that Meghan treated this "letter" as harassment or a stalker rather than a crime to be seriously investigated

Starryfifty · 23/10/2026 22:58

Something is off here. Big time. HAM have, in the past, shown they assume everyone else is completely dim witted. This letter thing makes absolutely no sense.
