I’m wondering how the writer found out where to send the letter as not even a freedom of information request had it made public knowledge.

www.met.police.uk/foi-ai/metropolitan-police/disclosure-2024/july-2024/information-fixated-threat-assessment/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Interesting:

“Q2 - Composition of staff at FTAC
Although the composition of staff in FTAC cannot be provided I am able to advise that this consists of both MPS and NHS personnel.
Q3 - Number of subjects of FTAC
This has been interpreted as the number of people referred to FTAC. On this basis, since its inception in 2007, 12,785 people have been referred to FTAC as persons suspected of a fixation.”

That’s a lot of people engaging in unhealthy behaviours and attempting to engage in [parasocial] relationships, and possibly making allegations. Many hundreds every year - nearly two reports a day? And yes, how did that letter about Thomas Snr from the ‘close’ contact end up with this shadowy unit? Presumably via royal staff as pp suggested?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 24/10/2026 08:52

If I was going to go full on conspiracy theorist I'd wonder if this is some sort of ploy about their security. I can't quite see how it would work out but launching into stuff that isn't thought out is rather their style.

mysoddenbananabread · 24/10/2026 08:52

Yet in the Netflix documentary she crowed about being a Daddy's girl 🤷‍♀️ in 2022.

And I bet TRF is waiting for that one; because she's going to drag them into this somehow.

Oh she will. It'll be William's fault. Or Kate's.
Or both. Lipgloss X 100.

Going to be a big story & a massive headache for the RF. Not sure they can ignore it…

What's it to do with them? The hams said they didn't want to be part of it anymore. Let them crack on.

AtIusvue · 24/10/2026 08:49

If I lived in America and received a letter that a British citizen commited a crime in the UK,

why would I believe that American authorities would investigate this? Why would I not alert the UK authorities? Why would I not follow it up?

Her inaction is inexcusable

Imagine if we find out that in those 8 years, that another crime was committed.

She was an American married into the RF, moved back to the US. Did she ever follow up with what was happening with her dad as they were in constant contact with the authorities in the US.

If she’s making speeches about protecting children online but has done no follow up on protecting children from her father online, besides ensuring her own ass and her own children are protected then that’s really poor form.

I just find it strange that her big letter to her dad which ended up in court made no reference to these allegations. If I was writing to my dad in those circumstances I’d have mentioned it, especially if it was the reason for cutting off contact.

I think she couldn’t resist the clap back at the press and public, so sent this out without thinking through the consequences.

I’m sure she’s trying to figure out how to drag Catherine into it and blame her and William.

I am expecting her to say that the RF ordered her not to mention it ever again .,

Still doesn’t explain why H never met TMsnr between 2016 and the wedding 2 years later.
Had anyone here ever heard of the Fixated wotsit department before yesterday ?

I have (can't recall the context, probably something about RAVEC) but it's not a well known dept. Guardian had an article about it on 2022. IMO it's not an obvious choice for someone to write to

AtIusvue · 24/10/2026 08:34

She also, while appearing to take little to no steps regarding the contents of this letter, maintained in public, that she cut contact with her father because of press collusion and tabloid interference ( NF docu, Oprah and The Cut) thus protecting Markle Snrs reputation.

elessar · 24/10/2026 08:29

I completely agree with @AtIusvue

The whole thing makes no sense at all, in so many ways.

If the allegations in the letter are serious and credible enough for you to cut off your father completely and immediately without even wanting to check if they’re true, you must have had a prior suspicion, and would surely want to follow up to find out what happened with any investigation?

It’s not Meghan’s responsibility to investigate her father’s alleged crimes, of course it isn’t. But by claiming she knew since 2018, it’s absolutely irresponsible for her to then just ignore the situation for 8 years without following up with any of the relevant authorities to see if the matter has been investigated. It doesn’t need to be done publicly or with a big media campaign - she’s in a unique position where she and Harry can actually reach people in high places. I mean Harry wrote to the police commissioner in New York didn’t he over their “catastrophic car chase” and he’s contacted the Home Secretary multiple times about their security - they’re very happy to interfere with official bodies when it suits their own need. So doing nothing about this if you actually thought there was anything credible in the allegations is inexcusable.

If you actually cared at all about children being harmed you would do.

The whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I’d like to say I can’t believe MM is using abused children for a PR win, but there you go. Another low sunk to.

AtIusvue · 24/10/2026 08:25

Surely Meg would be aware, that when Markle Snr moved to the Philippines, that clearly in the 8 years theres been no magic investigation and that she should have alerted authorities there and told them about the letter and that he was potentially a danger.

JSMill · 24/10/2026 08:24

AtIusvue · 24/10/2026 08:12

I think with the initial shock of such an awful story, people are going to start asking why she never did anything over the 8 years. Her excuses don’t stack up. This is bad news for her.

So if you compare to the brother- who isn’t the most desirable of characters

  • In 2026 found info that led him to believe his father was guilty of having CSAM
  • Reported to the authorities in July
  • Having not heard back, decided to hire an IT guy to investigated various devices
  • Reported further findings
  • Contacted press and I’m sure for a fee, gave his story to the Sun

Meghan

  • In 2018 given info that her father has potentially caused harm to children
  • She didn’t alert any authorities in the US, Mexico or elsewhere.
  • Seemed be under the magic belief that the UK would investigate an American citizens crimes.
  • Appears not to have chased up over the 8 years about this magic investigation
  • Has been given such poor legal advice about what she can and can’t say but never queried it/ even though she would have access to top legal advice.

You have one character, who doesn’t seem like a very pleasant person and you can argue hasn’t gone about this situation in the most ethical way- but he still bloody did something about it!!

Meghan, from the info she’s given, literally did nothing. She as an American citizen but Didn’t report to US authorities, didnt chase up what she thought was being investigated in 8 years, didn’t question the poor legal advice ( anyone with any common sense and basic legal knowledge would have told her there will be no Uk investigation and you won’t be sued for claiming you have received a letter with serious allegations)

the dust will settle and people are going to have questions. The DM is already asking why she, on the NF series, was claiming to be Daddy’s girl.

Edited

This pretty much sums up my thinking about the issue.

Because of Meghan. It will get traction. Could vindicate her or hurt her, anything really but because it's her and not someone uncommitted to the RF, it is noisier.

Except, it doesn't appear to have got any traction at all though. The Met apparently did nothing with it.

If whoever sent the letter wanted action, then he/she should have gone to the US police to report a US citizen who was residing in the US. I find it hard to believe that if this person had credible information then US law enforcement would have ignored it.

And why didn't Meghan request a follow up in all these years? Get her lawyers to ask the Met what was happening? She just seems to have believed what was in the letter - although it wasn't substantial enough to lead to a police investigation - and then not bothered about it.

DontLiveByTheClouds · 24/10/2026 08:15

BunnyBunbunbun · 24/10/2026 07:47

Apparently the letter was sent by someone close to the Markle family who knows Thomas Markle Sr. This is odd. Why would someone who knows Thomas Markle personally choose a random British police unit to inform about alleged crimes not committed in the UK?

Also, who was sending physical letters in 2018? If you want to report a crime, that's not how you do it.

Because of Meghan. It will get traction. Could vindicate her or hurt her, anything really but because it's her and not someone uncommitted to the RF, it is noisier.

Am I the only one constantly getting a John Lewis ad on this thread for a 'new baby kit' with a picture of an adorable newborn in one of those little poppered vests? 😨

Her niece? Maybe? There was some drama around the wedding wasn't there?

Her niece, having come across some unpleasant information about her grandfather, would send a physical letter to the Fixated Threat Assessment Centre of the Metropolitan Police of London rather than visit the local police in the US? Anyone with a brain would also consult a lawyer first. Same goes for anyone else who may have known Thomas Markle.

Also, wouldn't this person who knows Thomas Sr have confronted him about it first, before sending a letter to a random police department in the UK? Or at least mentioned it to someone else in the family?

Thomas Sr has certainly never been investigated before as even he would not be so stupid with such suspicions hanging over him to leave 100s of incriminating photos lying around in the shared flat lived in with Thomas Jr once he'd returned to the US, leaving the photos for Thomas Jr to find.

I’m very pleased (considering I’m supposed to be a republican!). I know I keep banging on about this but what this country needs right now is stability.

If William helps to offer stability from within the royal family at this time, given that he will be the next Head of State, then right now I’m glad about that.

<Resumes researching wind-up radios>

I thought he seemed really intelligent and modest. The most important thing is the Earthshot Prize and how it's supporting the most incredible projects in sustainability and waste reduction. It really is major and William came across as someone who doesn't "dabble" in lots of superficial things, but commits for the long term.
He's also funny, and able to laugh at himself and his role!

BTW, if it turns out that TM Sr. Is innocent, he will end up owning The Sun.

Of all the gutter rags for Meghan to get into bed with.

Harry’s uncharacteristically quiet.

AtIusvue · 24/10/2026 07:58

Timing is weird.

The Sun had the exclusive from Markle jnr and exclusives from Meg.

We know Markle jnr would have more than willing to work with the press. The Sun play ball and get the info they need. Now they go to Meg for a right to reply and work a deal with her that they get her exclusives too. She’s VERY eager to get her side out. She even thanks the Sun!!!!

interestingly, it comes out the week after their pseudo royal visit. So they still got their big day out.…….

I very much doubt the letter was sent to a minor police dept very few people even know exists.

As I theorised above, it's much more likely that the letter was initially sent to Meghan, intercepted by staff and then sent on to the 'Fixated Persons' dept. In any case, the existence of said letter should never have been made public. But as we've seen from their 'security fight', neither Harry nor Meghan has any concept of confidentiality and discretion.

It has been reported that the letter was actually addressed to that department @IcedPurple. At least that is what the BBC report says 🤷‍♀️
