She made it clear after she left the RF that she didn't sign anything which prevented her from speaking out. She is a US citizen, her dad is a US citizen, she, until last month, lived in the US. Trying to put the blame on to the RF for not allowing her to speak out or take any further action for eight years, when they have been free to do what they want for the last six years just wont wash.

Justnot · 24/10/2026 12:59

If it was written by someone close to the family, there’s a whole back story there that will have coloured how it was considered - just more bits of the jigsaw puzzle missing

I am awe struck by the stupidity of releasing a statement without thinking through all the implications or even checking shit (playing Devils advocate, even if the Met were wrong, they could have checked all this before releasing a statement)

cross post with everyone else!

Met Police confirms it received letter over Meghan’s father Thomas Markle.. Brief Times article. I suspect there is much more to follow.

As I said earlier, her comms team should be sacked for making her rush out that statement yesterday.

She won’t listen to any comms team. That was Meghan all over.

Yeh, if you’re told your dad committed a heinous crime….you don’t get the date wrong of when you were told. That stays with you.

You definitely don't get it wrong when you're going public with what you knew and when. This is so, so bad for MM.

AtIusvue · 24/10/2026 12:58

Did a letter arrive in 2018 and it got to Meg ….and then it was forwarded back to the Met?

Like I said yesterday, I’m lost as a fart with all this. It breaking on the BBC now and it definitely says January 2019 🤷‍♀️

Jan 2019 is the date they have?

But Sussex camp saying they were told of the letter in Summer 2018.

Meg in her statement says she knew from 2018?

Exactly. The Met has said they've reviewed their systems and records and can confirm the letter making allegations about behaviour outside of the UK was received in Jan 2019. The Met is now deciding whether to refer itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for its handling. This is a disaster for MM, because that letter is now going to get scrutinised. Findings for the IOPC, particularly in high profile cases, are usually made public.

I'm afraid for M when your dad is a child abuser it's a hard sell that you are living an aspirational life.

One of the terrible things for the families of men who turn out to be child abusers is the sense of shame or being tainted by their albeit innocent association with such evil.

It's horribly unfair but very common. Families often want to move, start afresh, or live very quietly because their past relationship with such an sick abuser haunts them.

I know people who have lived through something similar to this situation. It's terrible and life shattering to discover someone you trusted is an abuser.

I think the vileness of the alleged crimes are being overlooked here. The details provided are stomach turning even in their brevity.

This horror if true is going to be something that haunts M and the children to have such a grandfather.

I'm really not sure the 'I'm living a dream life' shtick can work once your life is actually an obvious nightmare.

Well said. It’s a stigma that never goes because the crime is so serious.

It is for this reason and the disusting theories say they are colluding together and caused this why I am not coming back to thsi board. The fact people are still picking apart a woman because of a statement whilst saying why didn't she saying back then oh but now she has why did she and she engineered this. Its just beyond disgusting now and I don't want to be around people who actually think like this. Let's face it if it was their Dad or child who was accused of doing something heinous not a single one of them would be running around telling the press or anyone else to protect others until it was proven it was true. Yet they are hear holding someone to some greater standard and you just know if this was anyone else their reaction wold be the complete opposite.

Straw man alert. There was no reason for MM to say anything to the press about the reason for estrangement from her father, let alone the CSA allegation. She put out a false narrative on the estrangement entirely of her own volition and to make herself money via Netflix (and via Spare through Harry). Stop blaming the public for believing Meghan’s own words on the matter and then questioning it when she’s come up with an entirely different story to the one she’s been maintaining for the best part of a decade. Most people would have kept quiet on the matter entirely (at most, no comment) and done what was necessary with the relevant authorities in privacy.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 24/10/2026 12:53

Just wow that none of this was investigated! How awful

IcedPurple · 24/10/2026 12:52

So basically they saw this letter in terms of its potential threat to the 'security' of the Duchess of Sussex. Does that mean they did not consider the allegations serious enough to pursue or refer to another police force?

The fact that it was sent later than Meghan alleges is also interesting.

Passingthroughagain · 24/10/2026 12:52

Starryfifty · 24/10/2026 12:47

HAM will see this as a huge PR win unfortunately

I wouldn't be so sure now the Met have come out and said they were passed the letter in January 2019.

MM lied in her statement yesterday.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 24/10/2026 12:52

I remember Thomas markle jnr sent a handwritten letter warning about Meghan around children ! - I thought how weird and bonkers that was -

I would like to know if he sent the second handwritten letter about her father
in which case why wait 8 years to open the boxes

it will leak out who sent it if it’s been shown to the media

I’m quite Suprised it’s been found after all the moves

its all very troubling - sounds horrific

Starryfifty · 24/10/2026 12:51

Yikes. Neglected to inform other forces ?

Rhaidimiddim · 24/10/2026 12:51

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/10/2026 12:44

She didn’t notify the authorities, didn’t follow up, didn’t reveal the truth

Everyone keeps saying this, @Atlusvue, but if it comes to it she'll almost certainly insist she tried but was stopped by the palace / those she reported it to ignored it / her communications were "lost"

And if she does, on this matter the palace will certainly break their silence if she lies about their conduct.

Why on earth has this got anything at all to do with the metropolitan police? TM lives in the US!!!

It hasn’t, that’s the point.

Meg is trying to make people belive she was told the Met were investigating.

jeffgoldblum · 24/10/2026 12:41

Hang on the met are saying they got a letter in 2019? , how did they share it with Meghan in 2018 then??
god I’m confused 🫤

This is on Sky News herehttps://news.sky.com/story/met-police-received-thomas-markle-allegations-letter-but-did-not-tell-other-forces-13597502

Mylovelygreendress · 24/10/2026 12:50

BREAKING: Statement from @metpoliceuk confirms they DID receive a letter from the USA about Thomas Markle. It raised concerns “in relation to the security of the Duchess of Sussex”.
But police say it was in January 2019. Not the summer of 2018 as Harry & Meghan’s office said yesterday.

Rhaidimiddim · 24/10/2026 12:49

StrawberryWasp · 24/10/2026 12:42

The stench from the Markle family is stomach turning.

Whoever wrote this letter, whatever M knew in 2018, whatever the brother knew about the dads behaviour in Thailand, it was obviously known for a long time among the family that the dad was at the least a sleazy bastard and possibly a child abuser.

This isn't news to any of them. It's just public now.

It feels like there are some pretty sordid nasty secrets held within that family.

It smears Doria, too, for leaving MM to be brought up by her dad alone, if it was known that he was "at the least a sleazy bastard". Especially since she was supposedly a social worker.
