Agree. Also irksome is the left are accused of an "omnicause" on here, implying we all think the same way about every political issue.

Re: AI I am not worried about that, people can find out far more about me from using the MN AS if they were so inclined.

@Thezookeepersneiceyes I hate that, no middle ground, eg I have said the “boat problem” is a complex issue & lots of governments have struggled with it etc, you then get posters replying & saying “how many immigrants are you housing” or I said “we have an ageing population that successive governments haven’t planned for & it’s expensive”, cue the “you want to kill old people and “you are ageist” retorts.

I corrected someone who had made up statistics and their response was I don’t care about what that says, this is what I feel. That is not debate.

Frankly, I don’t care. I’m keeping the name I’ve had for years. There have been numerous piles on in that time and much goading. I seem to attract it like a magnet on the political threads. I’m confident in my beliefs and perfectly able to defend them without hate speech or personal attacks.

I agree. I actually love a robust debate. What I feel has changed since I was last on here is the amount of tribalism, and the sort of, “well, if you think X you must also think Y” type accusations. I guess that might tie into this AI thing - the idea if someone was “wrong” about one thing, they must also be “wrong” about another. I do also think the misinformation some thing is a real problem - people declaring thing as fact, without providing proper links to evidence it, does make it hard to have a proper discussion.

I actually don’t mind a heated debate or a robust discussion but what has changed is there is a lot of whataboutery or someone makes something up, someone else corrects them but they just ignore it.

Having returned to mumsnet after a long time away, I have to say, I have been quite shocked by the level of agressive and bad faith debate around some topics.

I do think there needs to be a tightening of the guidelines around misinformation, and the use of AI. And also around the definitions of hate speech - I’ve seen incredibly dehumanising language about allowed to stand (particularly when it’s about asylum seekers, or classism).

But I don’t think MNHQ can police everything. I know it sounds cheesy, but I do think we all have a duty to speak as we wish to be spoken to, and to remember everyone posting is a real person with feelings that can be hurt. I tend to just stop posting on any threads I feel are getting too nasty.

I see it on the Royal board a lot, if you criticise Will or Charles you get piled on & if you disagree that Meghan is the devils spawn you also get piled on.

What do you mean by "goady" ? Could you give an example ?
Also by "pile on" do you mean when lots of people disagee with something someone and says so? Or do you mean lots of cruel comments?

AI also often gives false results. It's interpretation of individual posters should not be weaponised, and should not be posted on a public forum. Not only is it an invasion of privacy, its often wrong.

It's AI, so not something I would take too seriously.

I used another username of mine, which I had only posted in twice and it described me as an active poster. Does 2 posts make me an active poster? 🤔

For this username, I am described as a regular and active poster. I’ve still only had the name for a couple of weeks.

I was told to stop derailing a thread. I was just replying to continually horrible comments by a particular poster.
I'm not a "Let it go" type of person as I hate being accused of stuff by a person who knows nothing about me.

I usually just leave the thread.

I emailed MN with concerns about the AI scraping being used by some posters. No response.

If you put "describe the poster called [insert posting name] on Mumsnet" into the search box of your browser, it will use its version of AI to produce a profile of that poster based on their posting history. Some also include things about them that come from other sites, like reddit.

Do it on your own name and see what it says about you!

The political threads are always going to get heated, especially in the current political climate. If someone is regularly posting on political threads realistically they are going to have people regularly disagreeing with them which can definitely feel like a pile on when across a number of threads.

If you find it upsetting OP maybe take a step back for awhile, social media can be really addicting especially when it comes to topics you feel passionate about.

Also change your username if it’s being posted elsewhere, MN can’t do anything about posts on other platforms.

That is creepy. MN should take a stand against things like that as it sounds like low key bullying to pick on you so much. Which as we all know, can escalate into full on bullying.
