How to change inappropriate adverts?

I’m so fed up with constantly seeing IVF and pregnancy adverts on mumsnet. I have to scroll past them every time I use the site.

I can’t be the only one who’s had failed IVF and miscarriage.

What do I need to do to make them go away permanently without subscribing to mumsnet? I’m happy to be spammed with other less triggering adverts 😩

There's also adblock browsers for phones and tablets (I only have Android devices though - not sure if there's an iphone version). The adblock browser I use stops almost everything. And as other pp have said, there are good adblock extension options for laptop browsers.

I refuse to be bombarded by adverts on a minute-by-minute basis. Sorry, mumsnet HQ, but even just reading the comments by other users on this thread alone convinces me that adblockers are vital. No one's mental health should be compromised by insensitive adverts on mumsnet, and if mumsnet won't do anything about the issue or listen to their members then an adblocker is the only option left.

Just get a good ad blocker. I don't see any ads.

we can hide the boards we don’t want to see, that are triggering. But we can’t do that with ads!

You can hide all ads though.

Not to mention the miscarriage boards, the pregnancy choices board, the donor conception board, the adoption boards etc.

There are many women using this site today who have suffered a recent loss or with their dead baby sitting inside them - don’t rub their faces in the fecundity of the lucky ones!

we can hide the boards we don’t want to see, that are triggering. But we can’t do that with ads!

There are a lot of people here for the conception and infertility aspects of the board! If they want us here to use their site then Man should also take us into consideration!

If they don’t want us sad infertiles here then they should delete the infertility board and be honest about it!

It is reasonable to not be expected to be bombarded with the same advert multiple times when you have selected to delete the advert. It occurs on every new page load. I'm not talking about adverts for pushchairs it is the constant IVF advert.

I'm sorry I agree. It's not reasonable to expect a site predominantly about parenting to not have adds for pushchairs etc.

Get Adblock as it'll prevent you seeing them here or elsewhere

Got to agree with SoupDragon. It should be expected to see parenting and pregnancy related ads on a parenting site. It is a business and where they get their revenue from to run the site.

You can take your own action and use Ad blockers to remove them.

No. Not an advert. Ignore the word “advertisement” above it. And no it doesn’t fill up my entire screen on my iPhone every time I scroll.

Yes agree. And you expect us to accept it as “they’re not adverts” when they have the heading “advert” above them. @mumsnet Oh so that’s ok then? I’m no longer triggered.

It’s very much an option to ask to see less of a triggering subject on other websites.

@mumsnet If I delete the adverts it shouldn't keep coming back with the same triggering content. You've ignored all comments on this thread and taken no action as a consequence.

@St3amtrain we are genuinely sorry when MNers are upset by adverts and have taken steps so that certain boards have additional sensitivity filters (you shouldn't see ads like this on Pregnancy choices, for example). As for the rest of the site, it's difficult for us to have a blanket policy of no ads about pregnancy and IVF/baby equipment as this will be relevant to a significant number of our users.

If you're seeing ads on a part of the site where you think they shouldn't be, then please let us know. We'll also have a further discussion about the videos in our carousel and the frequency they appear.

I've been reading mumsnet for years but just signed up today in order to comment on this post. I am constantly seeing these adverts despite selecting to remove them. They are inappropriate, insensitive, triggering and on every post.

I am getting IVF, pregnancy, back pain in pregnancy. Almost all are pregnancy/IVF related 😩
I would really like to opt out of these subjects somehow as it’s fairly distressing. Almost every time I’m on mumsnet, a large pregnant stomach greets me and fills most of my iPhone screen.
I can cope with random trying to sell me products.
