Just as a heads up, MNHQ, an old username of mine was on the list. I haven't had an email telling me that. I also haven't had to log out and reset my password yet. I have logged out, on all devices, but can still log in with a non-compliant password. I can still access my MN email address.

I know you must have a lot on your plate at the moment but I wanted to make you aware, as there are probably some others like me.

It could be people logged in to the mobile site on an Android that haven't been forced out?

  • Lavri not Lavi.

And I hope you get good news about your son. Thanks

Freeandsinglewater · 21/08/2015 09:26

I have in the past said to women to LTB. Some of them are very clear that the people who are surposed to protect these women arnt! In fact they are down right being bullied. Why on earth do these 'men' feel they need to bully women?

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 21/08/2015 09:24

Oh Lavi Thanks that is awful. MN has these anti-man accusations chucked at it all the time, and time and again, Justine says No, we're here to support parents. It's just so sad that that these keyboard warriors see fit to add this stress to people going through traumatic events, and here for support.

I wonder if the fuckwit hacker knew you, or just read your posts - how would he really feel about his actions? I can't believe he'd actually feel good.

98 - try not to worry, you could de-reg and then set up an anonymous e-mail address, and use false names on your MN account.

I noticed a couple of NN's on that list of people that I would definitely consider are vulnerable irl. It just makes me Sad

Am I right in thinking that the MNetter that got swatted was the one who was winding him up on Twitter, I can't see why he would have sent a swat attack to a random member but in the first forum attack there were a few of us posting on his titter taking the piss.

Arkkorox · 21/08/2015 09:19

His websites a bit boring isn't it, could at least throw on some pics or a quiz or something

Arkkorox · 21/08/2015 09:18

I have to say it's been very easy to get completely absorbed in this thread and start believing / seeing things as suspicious that we wouldn't normally, I've done it myself!

98 come back soon.

PlayingSolitaire · 21/08/2015 09:17

Please can we have an update, even to say "nothing new to report" or "we'll update as soon as we can" from MNHQ. Just want to know you're all still there (albeit rocking in the corner with your gin Grin )

Agree 100% PermetsTu, you put it so well. The only reason I have posted here has been to get support and advice (and hopefully provide some). I have posted most frequently since my son was diagnosed with cancer. The support and care shown by complete strangers has moved me to tears. I was on the list too and now am frantically trying to change all my passwords while waiting to hear if my son has relapsed. Internet provision in the hospital is sketchy to say the least so this is proving very difficult. This is the very last thing I and so many other people need. I am so bloody angry that some selfish, misguided idiots could use their talents to do something so petty and nasty.

In a related note, I was a very lucky recipient of a Secret Santa gift at Christmas and I presume but can't fully remember how I provided my name and address to the sender. Would anyone know if that could have been hacked too?

Lweji · 21/08/2015 09:09

I don't get where the idea has come from that we're all manhating bitches who want dads out of the picture.

Well, from people who have an agenda, are womanhating cocks and want mums out of the picture. (probably)
It's people who misrepresent threads and posts and then take offence at being called liars and misrepresent posts again.

StephanieBeacham · 21/08/2015 09:08

Oh 98 Sad

I'm so sorry. I hope at least that you get a reply from MNHQ as to the reason for the reset. Perhaps it was just one of those things apropos of nothing.

I totally understand what you mean though - time for a break and some RL to make all this seem less significant.

I hope you come back really soon, you're one of the good ones.

Arkkorox · 21/08/2015 09:04

This sodding list has a lot to answer for. It's made people paranoid and obviously someone's been saying it's telling postcodes and full names which is isn't. 3000 emails out of 7m is a drop in the ocean, half those posters on the list are duplicates and some of them haven't use their account in years, so really if they were trying to do anything other than just scare us they're not doing it very effectively.

However I fully believe the intention of posting all that crap was to scare people into leaving. The fact that most people have just reset their passwords and the majority of the forum is carrying on as normal really means that Jeff has achieved fuck all other than a stressful week for MNHQ

DontTellThePrincessBride · 21/08/2015 09:04

Thing is though whenever anyone posts a thread in Chat or AIBU along the lines of "things men are shite at" or "are all men crap at housework", that sort of thing, it very quickly gets shot down. Almost straight away you'll have someone post that "no, my DH does his fair share of housework and childcare because I married a responsible adult and not a whiny manchild". Then someone will comment that their DH is great and they are the slightly crap one in the relationship. Then someone will ask the OP if they make such sweeping sexist generalisations in RL.

Every single time.

And if someone posts that they don't want their DC to see their dad for no reason other than the OP is still angry/upset at them about the seperating then there are loads of replies saying that you can't block access for that reason, the relationship between the OP and XH is seperate to the relationship between XH and the DC, the DC have a right to a relationship ship with him, and so on.

I don't get where the idea has come from that we're all manhating bitches who want dads out of the picture.

VowelMovement · 21/08/2015 09:03

PermetsTu

Well Said.

BoffinMum · 21/08/2015 09:01

One thing I would say.

Never post anything on here you would not be happy answering for in RL in the right set of circumstances. Be measured, be truthful, and always consider how you would justify it should it come to pass that it becomes identifiable.

I have posted personal things that might be a bit embarrassing if revealed (actually this happened at work recently, but I just retorted that MN was like Fight Club and officially didn't exist at work, so we weren't going to refer to it or else) but frankly my world didn't and wouldn't end, because it was nothing I wouldn't say face to face if necessary.

The exception to this might be someone being abused and/or fleeing to a refuge, and needing help, in which case you need to reveal but then throw more sand over your tracks etc. MNHQ are very good at helping in such cases.

Ultimately however the vast majority of posts here are normal coffee shop chatter and we need to remember that (and we should be mindful of coffee shop chatter as well, and be truthful and measured about that, too).

TheTravellingLemon · 21/08/2015 08:56

PermetsTu quite right. They published my details too. I'm not some manhating Internet giant, I'm really nobody. Just trying to get by and raise my kids as best I can.

I've turned to mumsnet for support and advice in the past, but largely I like it because it gives me company and makes me laugh. I don't have a secret agenda, I just like chatting. I have a wonderful DH who I love and respect and is a great father. I don't hate men.

I have been thinking a lot over the last couple of days about a particular poster who was on The List. She was using mn to support her through some mental health problems and I haven't seen her around since The List was published. I hope she's ok and getting the support she needs irl. If you're reading this, I won't post your name, but I haven't changed mine so hopefully you'll recognise me from your threads Flowers. I hope you are continuing to do well.

Father Christmas is still maintaining a dignified silence in the face of terrible slurs across his festival.

That's becuase he died in 1967 and was replaced by a look a like. He doesn't want to draw too much attention.

98percentchocolate · 21/08/2015 08:55

I don't know why but MNHQ reset my password last night "as a precaution". I've asked for further explanation but haven't received a reply yet. I'd already reset my password after the new request so I can only assume they have evidence that I was/was going to be hacked.
Anyway, at about midnight last night I heard a car door shut quietly outside and freaked out that it was a swat team. Irrational, I know but I know they are reading this thread and I was posting a lot yesterday. So, as much as I love MN I'm going to de-reg now. I can't cope with this stress on top of everything else. Will keep reading but without being logged in.
So long and thanks for all the fish...

DontTellThePrincessBride · 21/08/2015 08:54

DH has quietly placed tea next to me and crept away. I suspect I'm typing furiously again.

:o had a mental image of him reversing slowly out of the room without turning his back to you or making eye contact.

My DH has this certain look on his face when I start typing furiously. I call it his "oh lordy, she's off on one again..." face.

GloGirl · 21/08/2015 08:53

I love you Permets. Leave your DH, marry me

PermetsTu · 21/08/2015 08:52

diddl, a tiny, tiny minority of millions of posters, yes, maybe, at a stretch. However, that's people isn't it?

Some of that tiny, tiny minority will have terrible experiences in their lives which means that they're automatically distrustful of men. That's human fallibility. What Mumsnet is good at is allowing those views to be presented but countered. Same as any other topic discussed on here. People have their own life experiences and opinions and it all makes for valid discussion. Rarely is it even an agenda, just the cumulative effect of personal experience. Why the whole website, innocent individuals and a team of people doing their job need to be punished for what is, essentially, fallible human opinion, I have no idea.

Father Christmas is still maintaining a dignified silence in the face of terrible slurs across his festival.

I'm still cross apparently. I don't like it.
