Congratulations @trying29my son is preparing for the Sutton Grammars, really interested to know which resources did you find to be the most effective/ similar to the actual exams since there's no past papers available. Thank you

Purpletoes · 03/03/2026 11:53

We didnt get our grammar option hopefully will get it in the waiting list. We did get our 2nd choice which is a local girls comp that does have a grammar stream and is highly regarded if we dont get 1st choice

TeamGeriatric · 03/03/2026 07:27

We got the grammar, which was our first to choice. We are out of official catchment, but typically the offers stretch to where we live, which proved true again this year.

Tiredlady1 · 02/03/2026 22:45

First choic for us too. Glad to see so many first choices being granted in many of the group's OGs. How will you be preparing them for highschool ?

Magnificentkitteh · 02/03/2026 17:14

DD got into Henrietta Barnett which was her first choice. Thanks for all the support and well done everybody.

trying29 · 02/03/2026 17:10

We just heard my son got into Wallington which was his first choice. Congratulations to everyone - the kids worked so hard

We got our first choice, Stretford Grammar! Thank you so much to everyone who supported and reassured me along the way while I was going through this process for the first time.

Wishing all the kids a bright and happy future ❤️

Great news - it's a fab school. They do a brilliant job with the year 7s getting them settled in.

Pipsquiggle · 02/03/2026 15:18

First choice here - thank goodness.
We were right on the edge of the distance allocation though.
Some of my DC's friends are very disappointed this morning

Glad to see there's good news to kick off the day. Congratulations slaybell. Can your older ones manage under their own steam?

Eldest’s school is a 5 minute walk away so she’s absolutely fine. DD2 will have to get a bus very early in the morning as it’s a fair way away but there are a number of kids from our area who will get it (one catholic grammar that serves the whole council area) including some of her friends from primary, who hoping she will be ok and adapt.

We got confirmation too. We already knew DS had a place but nice to know I didn't screw up the application process.
Email says we need to confirm by midday on Wednesday. I guess they have a lot of anxious parents in group B.

troppibambini6 · 02/03/2026 08:23

@slaybellgreat news!

Good news here too. Also have done two consecutive years and that’s it I’m officially done with this awful process.
I’ve done it 4 times with thankfully 4 passes and everyone allocated the schools they wanted.
It’s still a totally crap system though.

slaybell · 02/03/2026 07:41

First choice here.

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear.

That’s two kids in two consecutive years through this gruelling process.

DS is only in Y2 so have a bit of a well needed breather before it all starts again.

Now just to figure out how to manage three kids in three different schools Shock

trying29 · 01/03/2026 20:31

ha I will be refreshing as much of the day as I can. on a bloody course for most of it

trying29 · 01/03/2026 19:18

yes I think its 5pm in London - still unsure if you log into eadmissions earlier the results will be there earlier?!

Not much I don't think but won't stop me trying I'm sure.

slaybell · 01/03/2026 20:09

Oooh 5pm that sucks.

Ours comes at midnight or just after. Was 00:07 last year

trying29 · 01/03/2026 19:18

Magnificentkitteh · 01/03/2026 18:15

Thank you and good luck everyone! I'd got myself very relaxed as our second choice is guaranteed but DD is suddenly very invested in her first choice again so I'll be pacing a bit tomorrow. I think in London we have to wait until evening

Poonu · 01/03/2026 01:16

Good luck to everyone for their first choices the national offer day

CheerfulMuddler · 24/02/2026 08:06

I'm sorry, Dolphin. So many people get fucked over by this system. I don't know anyone, anywhere, who thinks it's fair.

Magnificentkitteh · 23/02/2026 17:13

Sorry to hear it Dolphin. It is indeed a ridiculous system. The more you think about it the less sense it makes. I'm glad ds is stoical. I bet he will prove them wrong, little trooper. I don't know what your budget is like but having agonised about dd1's school i am topping it up with online classes which is a more affordable version of tutoring. It's a pita because she's knackered after school but at least her school is only down the road.

DolphinOnASkateboard · 23/02/2026 15:46

DolphinOnASkateboard · 13/02/2026 11:21

...and, to reiterate, I'm very much expecting the worst as his score was just too low on the day. Which just makes me loathe the whole system as his results through six years of primary school have been exceptional, but everything I've read suggests that counts for very little.

So as you may have guessed my prediction was accurate. Been a week now, still sad, still angry about how stupid it all is. The panel noted his exceptional academic achievement over the years and agreed with his school that he was on track for top marks at the end of Y6... but that, hey, he didn't score very highly in the STS, and that's what matters. So all a complete waste of time, really. His teacher and head are both utterly baffled by it, they genuinely can't understand how this situation has developed when various subjectively less able kids who have struggled throughout primary have made it through. We'll do an appeal post offer day just to go through the motions but that's pretty much that.

DS is pretty chilled about it, keeping positive, looking on the bright side, actually keen to prove everyone wrong. But I just see a boy who for years has been genuinely excited by maths and science now being destined for a school where literally one pupil got a top grade in GCSE physics last year, and where the whole culture from the head down seems to be about making sure kids reach the minimum standard required rather than reaching their full potential.

My tip for any Bucks parents who find this thread would be to ignore everything the council and TBGS says about kids not needing to be tutored and to teach to the test for as many years as you can afford. The system is completely stacked against you if you don't, which is presumably why the poorer areas of Bucks continue to have pass rates well below the more affluent ones.
