Thanks, Peggy and mmzz I believe she's taken the new one.

This is her last try, she says. She's shown resilience, I'll give her that!

Good luck to all the DC, they go through so much pressure and stress. Bless 'em.

mmzz · 06/08/2018 15:48

LineRunner that must be so frustrating for her. She's doing well to keep on trying.
Is she allowed to sit exams for the old maths gcse specification or did she have to do the new one this time?

PeggySchuylar · 06/08/2018 15:34

Line fingers crossed for her

PeggySchuylar · 06/08/2018 15:33

One of my concerns is that if DD does really well I will wobble avout whether she should do A levels rather than a BTEC.

I will have to keep saying to myself
No A levels
No A levels Confused

Cblue · 06/08/2018 15:06

DD needs pretty much the same results as @ReservoirDogs

...so it will be a nail biting wait.

Backup SFC has very low minimum- 5 at level 4 and a 6 in A Level subjects to do A Levels or lower for BTECs.

So she will have somewhere to go but it will be disappointing for her after all the hard work.

I am practicing my 'that's a brilliant result and exactly what you need' face - although it currently looks more like a grimace so a bit more practice is required!!!

LineRunner · 06/08/2018 14:45

Hello all, I've been lurking on here. Threads like this kept me sane in previous years!

My ex's DD, lovely girl, is waiting for the result of her 5th go at GCSE maths.

I so, so want her to pass.

HesMyLobster · 06/08/2018 14:38

I just hope DD gets the results she deserves, she worked so hard and I just want her results to reflect that.
I know she'll be a bit disappointed with anything less than a 6, and in theory she should manage that in all subjects.
Realistically though, who knows? As long as she gets the 6 passes she needs for 6th form that's all that matters. And repeat . . .
(My mantra for the next 2 1/2 weeks!)

JugglingFromHereToThere · 06/08/2018 13:32

Think I'll be very happy with 6's, extra pleased with anything higher, maths, physics, drama and music may be the stronger ones.

5's will be OK but not exciting! Kind of resigned to a 4 or even 3 in French, obviously a 4 is worth hoping for!

Really hoping he gets the 7 at 5+ and the 3 at 6+ that he needs, and in the right subjects. He should really be performing at around a grade or so higher than this, and if I remember right predictions were mostly at the 6/7 boundary. But close enough for us to consider what our plan B would be!

Thanks for suggestion of going into school on the 16th or17th?, when staff are around for A level results. That seems a good way to catch someone and talk over arrangements for results day the following week ( as DS will be away on a music tour with his band)

ReservoirDogs · 06/08/2018 13:32

Oqqer - I am not so brave as to predict (or say what I hope for).

He needs 7 x grade 7 or As plus a 6 (or B) to stay on to School 6th Form and predicted higher so hope will be ok.

He wants an 8/9 in his A level subjects Maths, History, Geography (also doing Economics but a new subject).

mmzz · 06/08/2018 11:01

I think I have ascending levels of what it would take to make me happy (or at least it could be worse):
There’s the bare minimum to go to the second choice 6th form and do the subjects DS wants:
2 x level 4
1x 7 for maths
2 x 6 for English and a science
Then there’s the bare minimum for the first choice sixth form:
3 x level 5 including English
1 x level 8 for maths
1 x level 7 for Physics
Then there is what it will take for DS not to despair about himself and feel like all his hard work is wasted:
1 x level 9 for maths
3 x level 8s
4 x level 7s
1 x level 6s (can’t count on an A for English Lit or Geography)

Ideally, I’d like 8s and 9s with a 7 for English Lit but that’s not likely.

OP posts:
AlexanderHamilton · 06/08/2018 10:51

I’d be happy with the following Dd would like what’s in brackets

English Lit 7/8 (8/9)
English Lang 7 (8)
Maths 7 (7/8)
Biology 6 (7)
Chemistry 6 (7)
Physics 6 (7)
Music 7 (7/8)
RS 8 (9)
French 6 (7)

LooseAtTheSeams · 06/08/2018 10:27

Jufus those are good if they're the minimum - they would get DS into his first choice 6th form as well. This means DS is relaxed at the moment but he does need good results in maths and English to be sure of the psychology A level. Also he needs a good result in maths or there isn't any point in doing maths A level!

JufusMum · 06/08/2018 09:32

Every time I think about results day I feel sick. Probably shouldn't do this but I am going to put here what I would be happy with as a minimum. Not what DD would be happy with at all. I think she has pushed results to the back of her mind. We had a dance competition yesterday for the first time in four weeks and it was great to see DD having fun with her friends.

English Literature - got a 5 already in Year 10
English Language - 6
Maths - 5
German - 5
Science Combined - 5/5
Geography - 6
RE - 7
Drama - 5

Let's see how this looks on results day - but this would be enough to get into first choice Sixth Form.

Oddsocks15 · 06/08/2018 07:15

Alex it’s frustrating that we have to wait sooooo long for results day. The worry of exams on top of your DH Flowers

mmzz · 06/08/2018 04:41

AH will the upcoming tests give your DH some answers or is it just a case of wait and see?

OP posts:
AlexanderHamilton · 06/08/2018 00:01

I think dd is worrying about some of her results. She talked about her English Lang tonight. The exam she freaked out in a little because of the stroke question.

I feel like our whole lives are on hold at the moment. We can’t plan anything. Dh has been a bit down today.

mmzz · 05/08/2018 22:29

I've definitely lost perspective regarding the GCSEs. I more or less managed to forget about them in July, or at least think they were so far into the future, it was only mildly interesting to realise that someone could have actually been marking them right at that moment.
I want to enjoy what's left of the summer though with DS chilled and no worries. So if they could just let him know the results that are probably already calculated, it would be a great help!

OP posts:
slinkyme · 05/08/2018 22:03

Peggy that really is good to hear. You are so right there are so many routes.

I find the further we have gone from when exams finished my sense of reality about how DD May have done is blurring. I don't really remember how she did and I feel that we may get some real surprise results. I think there was only one English paper that she felt that she messed up the timing on
But I just feel I don't have a clue what she is going to get.

I too wish that they had their results already and could actually enjoy some of the summer post results. I don't really expect DD not to make the grades for her 6th form or for her subjects. But still this whole 9 to 1 aspect is making everything so much harder.

mmzz · 05/08/2018 21:24

Peggy well done your DC. It is very heartening to hear such stories.

OP posts:
PeggySchuylar · 05/08/2018 21:22

An upside to the hot weather (doesn’t suit me) is a bumper fig crop. Last year they didn’t ripen but this year the tree is dripping with them. Will have to cook and freeze some to have on porridge in the depths of winter.

Some of you may remember me saying I have an older DC who has so far got the worst GCSEs in our family. They have been doing an apprenticeship and done really well at BTEC at excellent college. This DC has got a new apprenticeship at a company that will support up to degree and even PhD. DC did very well in the assessments and obviously at interview. Not bragging, just reminding us all that there are lots of routes to success that aren’t nine A* at GCSE. Grin

Stickerrocks · 05/08/2018 21:09

Actually I think It's a great idea for the two of you to sample as many different ships as possible before the gap year, just to make sure she knows what she wants to do!

teenmum60 · 05/08/2018 21:06

Stickerrocks - We are talking years ahead and things may change DC's have all sorts of idea;s and aspirations at this age. I dont think it would bother DD where she was eating/drinking she's quite grounded. She does work (Saturdays) for a Murder Mystery company at the moment so she has some experience of entertainment and dealing with the public....so who knows - lets see what happens.

Stickerrocks · 05/08/2018 20:06

Teen A friend was recently Sandy in Grease for RCI for 12 months. She had leading lady privileges and was allowed in all guest areas, but the chorus weren't. I would get DD to check out who is eating & drinking in the buffet and bars, check out their job titles, then take it from their! The European crew seem to be treated far better than some other nationalities. Maybe she should look into working in one of the concessions.

teenmum60 · 05/08/2018 19:34

I am sure your DS will achieve his grades Bluebelle ...hard work does pay off!

BlueBelle123 · 05/08/2018 19:24

I guess where we are coming from is that DS worked incredibly hard for his GCSE's so if he doesn't get the 5 x 8's then maybe academically he's not cut out for it, admittedly teaching is patchy but it will be for A level so irrelevant really, he just has to make the best of the situation...........anyway not much longer to wait when DS and I can discuss it properly always different when the results are actually known!
