Is it because you are using the square brackets when you should be using asterisks?

Why doesn't the bolding work when I'm on my phone!

cubscout · 28/07/2018 08:33

Bit shellshocked this week going back to work after holidays.

[Alexander] sorry to hear the news of your th. Praying they get to the bottom of things and can agree a treatment plan.

[Terf] condolonces on the loss of your cousin.

[mmzz] I know what your ds means! My d's said yesterday he was looking forward to going back to school- it seems weeks of not much stretching ahead initially looked great fun but is already a bit tedious! He's put his mind to getting a Sat or holiday job.

Teenmum60 · 28/07/2018 07:43

@Kingscote I think I would have been "that mum" who was rushing on the pitch panicking to get my DD off. Its great that girls are now playing more cricket in school...I loved cricket from an very early stage and we always played it has a family too on days out etc.

mmzz - Completely understand your Ds's comments ...although GCSE's have been rarely mentioned in our household since the end of June..DD's mentioned a couple of times how organised she intends to be with her note taking etc when she starts her A levels because she really enjoys the subjects which is a positive sign...

DD off on hols with DF today, whilst I will miss her I am looking forward to having a couple of days where I can have a big clearout and do some jobs around the house that have been sitting on the "to do list" for far too long.

LooseAtTheSeams · 28/07/2018 07:36

mmzz that's interesting and I can see what he means. There must have been a sense of all being in it together but now it's just a case of waiting.
Terf so sorry to hear about your cousin. Thanks

mmzz · 28/07/2018 07:15

DS told me yesterday that in a way he misses the exam season! He said that there was a sort of camaraderie feeling about it when he was in school and then afterwards, there was Twitter. He said he'd come out thinking that things had not gone well and log in to twitter and see all those mêmes and read all the tweets saying that they couldn't even manage the first question.

It's an odd thing to say, but I can see what he means.

Sorry to hear about your husband Alexanderhamilton. I hope it’s the least scary of the possible diagnosis. I’m sorry to hear about your cousin too, terfterf.
My dd is returning to NCS for week 2 tomorrow. She enjoyed the first week more than she expected, surprised herself with managing all the physical challenges.

Stickerrocks · 27/07/2018 21:44

Oddsocks DD said she didn't want to tell me what she had been up too on the way home without DH there, as she didn't want to repeat herself. She wolfed down her dinner in 10 minutes flat, giving us selected highlights before sprinting upstairs again, came downstairs briefly with a load of washing and hasn't been seen since. However, I know she missed me as she let me give her a big hug when she came into my office to find me.

Stickerrocks · 27/07/2018 21:32

Thinking of you too Terf. At least you know you tried to brighten her final weeks.

KingscoteStaff · 27/07/2018 21:25

So sorry Alexander. You definitely need to keep things consistent for your DS at his new school.

The heavens opened in North London in the middle of DD’s cricket match. Cue 22 14 year olds performing some wild shamanistic dance as thunder and lightning filled the sky. Meanwhile I and the other mums stood nervously on the sidelines wondering if metal studs in shoes or braces on teeth attract lightning...

AlexanderHamilton · 27/07/2018 20:51

That’s called Lower School there. Seniors is age 16 plus just to be confusing. I bet dd must know him.

Teenmum60 · 27/07/2018 20:44

@Alexander...I will email my friend when she gets back from holiday...her son is 13 years old ...so senior school ? I will PM you once I have made contact...

Terf sorry to hear your news too...

AlexanderHamilton · 27/07/2018 20:29

Yes teen. She is going to H. Under 18’s have to stay with a school approved, checked landlady (they got commented on at an inspection for allowing someone to stay with a family friend). I don’t think the checks are too onerous if someone is known to the school though. The person who deals with it all is away this week so they are going to get in touch next week. Is your friends son in Lower School or Seniors?

It will be about 10 days when dh has his next scans & he will get the results the same day. We don’t know for sure it’s the auriculur thing but some of the other possibilities are quite scary.

Sorry to hear about your cousin terf.

terfterf · 27/07/2018 20:11

Serious rain, thunder, hail and gale-force gusts here! DH and I had to physically hold the gazebo down to stop it blowing away. It was glorious Grin rained every 20 mins since then with no regard to my washing!

Sorry to hear your news alexander, hope the docs can come up with a plan to help your DH. The keyboard player in my fave band has a condition called Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss and has to have biopsies taken from bone in his skull near the brain; he (and fans) feared the worse but he is ok and has learned to manage his condition. Stuff going wrong in the head is so scary Sad

My German cousin in the hospice (see earlier posts) died on Wednesday, peacefully. Hope I can get to funeral but we're off on holiday on Monday for 10 days so it might be a logistical nightmare, and my German is dreadful so I don't want to go alone. We'll see..

We left the German visitors in London today and DS2 and I came home. He has exhausted his niceness and has a screaming tantrum earlier. I had a nap. DH came home and we're busy comparing weeks and getting a bit pissed Grin DS1 Home from Spain Sunday so am enjoying the relative peace!

Teenmum60 · 27/07/2018 19:22

Sorry to hear your news @Alexander...Is your DD going to be attending H...if so I have a friend whose son attends H and she also fosters children so may have a spare bedroom (I'm assuming that her DS is still at H but would have to check - I know they are away on holiday at the moment - but happy to ask if it helps or put you in touch with her - she's lovely).

Thunderstorms here (and rain).

mmzz · 27/07/2018 19:14

It started raining here about two hours ago. I was irrationally excited to hear the thunder and realise that it would soon be raining.

alexander I wish it was better news but hopefully the clarity will help in the long run to make plans. Sending very best wishes to sost too Flowers

We are travelling again for DS music commitments. Hopefully it will be cooler up North. I was eaten by mosquitoes last night, five bites. In London! We just has a downpour. I stood in the garden getting soaked like a mad witch.

BlueBelle123 · 27/07/2018 18:38

So sorry to hear about your DH Alexander Flowers

mmzz · 27/07/2018 18:16

I think BSM used to (probably still do) their first few lessons on a simulator.

OP posts:
GettinTrimmer · 27/07/2018 18:03

I mean under 17!

GettinTrimmer · 27/07/2018 17:54

Alexander sorry to hear about your dh Flowers

As mmzz says there could be opportunities to learn to drive under 16. I am thinking of arranging a driving experience for my ds I found something on Buyagift.com.

In my ds's case I am wondering if there is such a thing as a driving simulator whete you can get the feel of steering and the gears first of all..

I am packing now and hoping the trains dont let us down (train to Gatwick) last year train was late & had to get a taxi cost £100 as missed our connecting train.

We've had some rain but not very much. Has anyone had a torrential downpour?

Oddsocks15 · 27/07/2018 17:52

Sorry to hear your news Alexander Flowers Bear don’t worry about being a downer, we will support you x

DD back from week 2 of NCS, she was fairly chatty to DH on way home but not spoken to me since I’ve been home. She is holed up in her bedroom and fairly stroppy, to think I was actually looking forward to seeing her Shock

TheThirdOfHerName · 27/07/2018 17:27

AlexanderHamilton glad you have got some answers but sorry to hear it's something that will have such an impact on his life.

Stickerrocks · 27/07/2018 17:00

Alex It's a stressful time for you all, so please don't worry about bringing a downer to the thread. Hopefully you feel you can says things to us that you don't necessarily want to say out loud in front of the rest of the family. Stay positive.

DD is safely home & buzzing. Being an only, she likes her own company, so I'm not expecting her to emerge from her room very often over the next couple of days.

LooseAtTheSeams · 27/07/2018 15:36

Alexander so sorry it wasn't better news. Thanks
wait and see on the driving licence but no reason, as you say, why dd couldn't take a look at the theory for now. I should have thought of that before for DS - he's 17 in November!
