farangatang My experience of NCS is of similar disorganisation. Shock of an assault. Apparently a DC had a phone stolen during week 1 but tame compared to what your DD witnessed. DD was asleep most of yesterday and haven’t seen her yet today Hmm

Still raining here, some parts of UK have flood warnings which is crazy after the heatwave. What is happening to our planet?

farangatang · 28/07/2018 16:55

Loose it seems to be hit and miss, but for minimal cost it's certainly been an experience. Sorry you friend's DC has been on a similarly disorganised Wave.

Had it been DD who was assaulted, I dare-say I would be furious but with such a mix of young people involved, I don't see how this sort of thing could be prevented entirely.

LooseAtTheSeams · 28/07/2018 16:45

Eek! farangatang just saw your post!
A friend of mine isn't too impressed with NCS this time round - sounds like it's very disorganised and with last-minute decisions but her experience with eldest dc was very good so she is quite surprised.

LooseAtTheSeams · 28/07/2018 16:42

DS actually accompanied us on a shopping trip. He's come back with new clothes so it worked out well for him! Don't think I can talk him into Mamma Mia, though!

farangatang · 28/07/2018 16:42

All the best for next steps for your DH Alexander

I hope those on NCS are enjoying uneventful experiences. Sadly, my DD's final day of social action was ground to a sudden halt when one of the other participants assaulted a team member! Police were called and the student was reported and is now banned from their 'Graduation'.

As an organised person, I've found the way NCS is run very poor (the participants in DD's Wave haven't even been given any details of their graduation yet, and the start of the social action Phase was unbelievably disorganised when even the mentors said they had 'no idea' what anyone was supposed to be doing). Despite this, it has been good for DD's confidence, she has made new friends with people she wouldn't ordinarily have met and enjoyed some of the activities.

And if it hadn't been for NCS, I suspect most of her holiday would have been spent on her phone without interruption. She has all her pre-A Level reading/tasks to do - hope she doesn't save them all until the week before school resumes!

DD2 off on camp and to a friend's holiday house after that, so it's going to be a quiet few weeks in our household (apart from trying to get everything sorted once our shipping arrives!).

Oddsocks15 · 28/07/2018 16:19

Can we be grumpy together stickerrocks Grin

Still haven’t seen DD ..... Hmm assume she is catching up with some sleep ... NCS social action on Monday ..

Stickerrocks · 28/07/2018 15:31

I really am sounding grumpy, probably as I'm working at home so DH & I can go away for a few nights when DD hits NCS phase 2 on Monday. No wonder DD wants to stay in her room. I think we should plan a virtual trip to the pics, all watch it at the same time then come back and chat about it together. I actually quite like going to the cinema by myself - nobody eating popcorn in a disgusting fashion next to you!

Teenmum60 · 28/07/2018 15:25

DD and I discussed going to see Mamma Mia2 but I cant see us getting to the cinema in the next few weeks given she's now away with Df until 5th and then on 1st week of NCS on 6th.

I'm procrastinating instead of doing housework...we seem to have 100's more spiders than usual (not sure whether its because of the heat).

Oddsocks15 · 28/07/2018 15:11

Tbh stickerrocks I’m surprised DD wants to come, I suspect it is because I’m paying Hmm Haven’t seen her yet today...

AlexanderHamilton · 28/07/2018 14:59

Dh wants to take me to see Mamma Mia!

I can’t stand the first one but I do like the stage show. Dd tells me the singers are better in this one though.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 28/07/2018 14:19

Stickerrocks, cross post. Come with me!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 28/07/2018 14:18

Gosh, I slept so well last night in the cool that I didn't wake up until nearly 12! Like a teenager myself. The boys are with their dad this weekend so nobody to disturb my sleep.

I hope your DH's results next time are the best they could be, Alexander. Flowers

I want to go and see Mama Mia but my DSs won't countenance it. Most of my friends are on holiday themselves or have seen it already. There are occasions that I'd have liked to have a DD. Destined to be the mil, never the mother of the bride! Grin

Stickerrocks · 28/07/2018 14:14

Well, Mama Mia is the film DD is going to see with my friend and DDs tomorrow. Have fun! I shall go & put on a DVD of Lady Bird instead!

Oddsocks15 · 28/07/2018 13:32

teenmum yeh have read that book, it’s a good one. I know it’s all perfectly normal, I just feel a bit empty. DS (twins) have gone round to their mates house this afternoon, still felt a bit empty inside so gave him a big hug and kiss before he went Blush Blush they will be back at tea time. Oh gawd, embarrassing mum or what.

Feel your pain stickerrocks I really do. Anyway, just made cookies, flapjack and cakes, that has helped. DD is coming with me to watch Mumma Mia while DH and DS watch Mission Impossible.

Welcome back reservoir July has flown by

ReservoirDogs · 28/07/2018 12:51

Hi everyone

Back from our holidays.

Sorry to hear your latest news Alexander.

August next week!!

Stickerrocks · 28/07/2018 11:33

Oddsocks I have a horrible feeling that we treat our parents with the same sense of exasperation. Apparently each generation has to distance itself from the one above to prepare for them to die. I think we must read the same Guardian articles. Even more frustrating is that she is going to the pics with a chum tomorrow, her mum & little sister. Nobody thought to ask me along, but I will undoubtedly be asked for cash, as the other mum has told us the ticket price. I want to hear what she's been up to, but she won't even show me as much as a photo or even open her bedroom door. Then she moans that all I ever do is nag her about chores.

Teenmum60 · 28/07/2018 11:09

Oddsocks ...I also know that feeling DD also brought home a load of clothes from her dads that she has grown out off etc...apparently dad doesnt handle having things lying around (I felt like saying NOR does mum)!
Its worth reading a book called 'get out of my life' and you realise you have a text book teenager.

Oddsocks15 · 28/07/2018 10:52

DD went out while I was in the shower, I don’t know who with, she told DS she was going into the village and doesn’t know what time she will be back....... while she has been gone I’ve dumped her rucksack that she has left downstairs post NCS and a heap of GCSE books and papers in her tip of a room for her to sort out.. no doubt will be fireworks about that, but I really don’t care. Can’t see her floor in her room anyway...

Teenmum60 · 28/07/2018 10:33

@Oddsocks You are not alone ...I'm looking forward to a break over the next 8 days whilst DD is with DF (although after about day 4 I do miss her)..DD and I seem to go through cycles where tension mounts up and reaches boiling point with an argument/tears and apologies and then we go back to calm before the storm brews again..she does communicate quite well with me though which I am grateful for because she has had a fairly rough ride through school with bullying/friendship issues.

I'm just worrying that I will forget to go and feed hedgehog (Bella) whilst they are away...

LooseAtTheSeams · 28/07/2018 10:10

Oddsocks I'm sure this is just a phase and things will improve. (I did smile at looking at faraway unis, though.)
Usually DS1 and I get on just fine but the other day we were all getting snappy with each other because of the heat. I had to make a conscious effort to stay calm. So I'm also very relieved the weather has freshened up here in London. But the impact on farming is very worrying.

Oddsocks15 · 28/07/2018 10:07

mmzz I do feel like it’s karma, my DM and I still have a rocky relationship and I haven’t spoken to DF in 25 years... Perhaps it’s me. I feel so distant from DD.. I have tiptoed around DD, especially during exam season, hoping that history won’t repeat itself and we will have a better relationship than I do with my parents. It seems whether I tiptoe or not, outcome is the same Angry

mmzz · 28/07/2018 09:45

Peggy that's going to have a knock on effect on food prices and inflation this winter, especially as it's the whole of Europe's farmers who have been affected.

Oddsocks your post made me smile but you know you don't really mean that! Your DD reminds me of me at that age. In my head, I was reacting and DM was the unreasonable nightmare. It has taken me another 35 years to see that I may have not been helping things with the way i would hold grudges about things she said when provoked! I think that's unusual though - most people work out that they may not have been the most pleasant teenagers to be around by their mid-20s.
Tbh, I'm terrified that my relationship with one of my sons will go the same way so I probably try too hard to make sure I don't alienate them m

Terf sorry to hear about your cousin, at least you got to see her before she went.

Oddsocks I know exactly how you feel but hang in there it does get better......honest

On coming back from holiday we found out that DS's official prom picture was put in the local paper, don't think he was overly impressed and despite it being in the public domain, no I am not going to post, he will have to remain a mystery Grin

PeggySchuylar · 28/07/2018 09:24

AH hoping things get clearer soon Flowers
Terf Flowers
Raining here. It feels nice and Atlantic. I actually got a bit of sleep instead of being a rotisserie chicken last night.

Local farmers are getting desperate, having to feed hay that was for the winter to the cattle and buying feed for the lambs. In July. It's just not how the farming model works. The animals eat grass in July. Always. It's tough.

Oddsocks15 · 28/07/2018 09:24

Sorry to hear your news terf

stickerrocks she told DH a bit a the car on the way home, me nothing. In fact she has hardly spoken to me since she has been home. Apparently I don’t need to know Hmm DH had a shouting match this morning as he couldn’t find a hoody on the washing line that she had in her bedroom the whole time.. obviously all his fault and he has now ruined the chance of any future conversations between them. According to the books this behaviour is supposed to help parents cope with their DC leaving home, evolution... Is it wrong for me to be ready now for her to leave home? Is it wrong for me to hope that she does to go to uni that is a considerable distance away from home? Totally pissed off with her, can you tell Angry
