They don’t seem to be giving much away but any indication that they might help kickstart the economy or are we just going to get £2 bus fares, £45 off our elec bill a year and petrol prices on google map? None of Labour polices seem to help anyone that is really struggling but isn’t in receipt of UC! I’m speaking as a single mother who is trying to sell a property to move on with my life but can’t. Yes I know I’ve very fortunate to have bricks and mortar but that doesn’t mean I’m loaded (because the property isn’t worth much)! I feel like everyone is expecting the chancellor pull a rabbit out of a hat but I think we’ll all be very disappointed/pissed off!

The Triple lock is being reduced to a double lock from 2030, if Labour get back in.

I’m approaching pension age. I would scrap the triple lock and the double lock. All pensions should be index linked with inflation, as should benefits and public sector salaries. Everyone should get the same yearly uplift every April. No more separate negotiations for doctors, teachers , nurses, police, local government workers or civil servants, MP’s or the armed forces. They all get the same percentage increase. The personal tax allowance also needs to be increased every year as well in line with inflation as fiscal drag is bringing people in very ordinary jobs into the higher rate of tax. The personal tax allowance could also be shared between couples who have children to give them more options with childcare, this would allow a couple to earn £25k a year before paying any tax if they have children under the age of 14. I would also gradually reform universal credit as it encourages some people to have more children than they can provide for, and others to work fewer hours than they could as they are getting top ups. The welfare budget is not sustainable.

A very sensible post. Big clap from me.

Labour would rather have 115% as this would avoid upsetting their back benchers.

The back benchers too respond to pressure from those will vote for them, if enough think 115% is the way to go it’ll influence them.

Although even Healey is likely eyeing up that debt servicing cost by now and ‘not in hock to the bond markets’ Burnham probably saw on day one he is indeed.

I'm not interested.

But I am interested whether you or Twinkletoes have any experience in business?

Of course you’re not interested. No interest in anything that challenges your entrenched world view.

I’m not sure why you’re getting heat @Amythomasbut I’m betting the Labour meetings are similar.

Tiggy2000 for Prime Minister. Some excellent suggestions there.

It won’t register. I think even Healey is making noises about entrepreneurs now. He’s out of road on taxes and borrowing.

And that is despite the doom and gloom about policy. So something about Lavour, and Tory, policy must be working then.

Unless I’m one of her customers (I’m not) it makes no difference to me whether or not she runs a business. On the other hand businesses like Capita and Serco are very bad for me and every other taxpayer.

Why do you think someone running a successful business does nothing for you?

Surely a thriving economy and successful entrepreneurs are the foundation of the stable and prosperous state?

I appreciate and applaud every single one of them.

Without them there wouldn’t be a police service, schools and a health service.

Why can’t we all give some credit where it’s due instead of going down the rabbit hole of political divide?

It's getting increasingly harder under Labour policy. But yeah, still just about successful. Guess some of us have it, some of us don't ;)

Of course we need it. Bizarre thinking to say it’s not a key part of the economy. No wonder Labour MPs just say tax more at every meeting.

So removed from business.

BIossomtoes · 22/10/2026 10:52

Nobody said business wasn’t a key part of the economy. Unfortunately some big businesses like the ones I named are adversely affecting the economy. And forgive me if I don’t canonise entrepreneurs like Michelle Mone.

Much like some of the commentators on this thread, I am not aware of any of the Labour front bench who have ever run a business.
