Yes, they could do that. But then the entryists would have won. Taken over the brand, party structures, finances etc and then a bunch of people who disagree with what's happening leave. The takeover is complete.

Sad really, as the environment is really important. I would prefer it if they had a kind of civil war (non violent of course!) and the entryists got booted out.

Yes but that would mean the hard Greens showing balls.

The only real way for the true Greens to save their values is to form another party. If they broke away from the Gaza driven stuff, the antisemites would be isolated. They would have difficulty peddling their hate when smaller in numbers and without a purpose to hide behind.

I saw a clip of a Green Party spokeswoman, not sure who, being interviewed. She was complaining about how there were loads of environmental stands and talks at the conference and how that was all being overlooked by the media saying that the Green Party is all about Gaza now. The interviewer did say that they brought it upon themselves because of course an antisemitic policy is going to be the focus of reporting.

Sorry - got the wrong end of the stick.

This. Exactly. 👍

Yes, they should have known that the new policy on Gaza would eclipse their environmental policies. It's a real pity as the environment in the UK is under enormous pressure and it's an incredibly important issue, for people in the UK far more important than Gaza.

The new policy is designed to attract new voters, to appeal to young far left people and also to the Muslim community, both of whom are growing in number.

People who care about trees, hedgehogs, the state of our rivers, animal welfare, public transport etc, are probably a smaller less vocal group.

Better for the Greens, as they see it, to attach themselves to fashionable causes and ditch the core content of their traditional policies.

Singling out a specific group to deny them national self-determination or agency represents the double standards in mainstream political discourse. While parties on the Right are rightly criticised when their policies target specific national or ethnic groups, similar policy positions from parties like the Greens are often given a bye because they are framed through a different ideological lens.

Ultimately, if anti racism and anti xenophobia are universal principles, they must apply equally, regardless of the target group or the political standing of the party promoting the policy!

I think the Greens actions confirm what we already know, that anti-racism and anti-xenophobia are not universal principles.

It is completely academic what The Greens think. They have no power to decide on a single Palestinian state. Surely the people who put this motion forward know this. Which begs the question- so why did they do it? I suspect in large part it was to drive 'the wrong kind of people' people out of the party. That is all it could be about- the old environmentalist Greens and particularly the Jews, and possibly 4 of the 5 Green MPs being driven out of the party. Lubna Speitan more or less admitted to it.

It was a stupid thing to do.

Like parasites killing the host.

To me it is academic what the Greens think . The real issue is how is the world going to get the Israelis and the Palestinians to co-exist alongside each other in peace. BOTH sides need to forget the history and put it aside and work towards securing a peace for themselves, their families and their grandchildren otherwise this conflict will still be being fought in 50 years time, do they really want that. Neither side is going to "win" this conflict, history tells them that. It is unrealistic for Israel to believe they can annihilate the Palestinians (were the Israelis annihilated after WW2?) and everyone has long memories and so far nobody forgets what the other side has done to them and promises revenge. It will only stop if both sides accept the others right to exist but at the same time cease trying to harm each other with missiles and rhetoric.

In all honestly it’s somewhat academic what the Palestinians think as Hamas is running the show. With money from terrorist organisations all across the Middle East. The war isn’t between Israel and Palestine, it’s Israel fighting a genocidal terror organisation whose charter calls for the destruction of the entire country and everyone in the entire world who shares your religion. It’s always been difficult for me to see how to start negotiations in this scenario and not sure anyone else knows either.

I thought the Scottish Greens had distanced themselves from the English Greens. Didn't realise that was because they felt they hadn't gone far enough!

Mad isn't it?

Turns out the Scottish greens aren't any better.

https://www.thetimes.com/uk/scotland/article/hamas-political-wing-terror-group-ross-greer-greens-dqdl66gbz

The official policy, a copy of which has been obtained by The Times in what is known internally as a policy reference document, states: “We call for the removal of Hamas from the designation as a terrorist organisation and seek to work with all parties who can contribute to the end of the occupation of Palestine by non-military means.”
It also condemns “Zionism as a racist ideology based on Jewish supremacy in Palestine” and calls for “the unconditional release of all Palestinian political prisoners from Israeli jails”, which in practice is likely to mean the release of Hamas terrorists.
The policy backs the repeal of Israel’s “law of return” for Jews, which grants all Jews the right to settle in the country, branding it discriminatory despite it being designed in 1950 to ensure members of the minority group had a safe haven in the wake of the Holocaust.

I thought the Scottish Greens had distanced themselves from the English Greens. Didn't realise that was because they felt they hadn't gone far enough!

I've started a new thread in AIBU on has the Green party become a racist organisation.

Honestly, how embarrassing for Green party members/voters.

Board of Deputies president Phil Rosenberg said a vote passed by 118 votes to one to declare that the Greens had, "by adopting an antisemitic platform, become a racist party".

OP posts:
Twiglets1 · Yesterday 19:15

The motion passed by the Board of Deputies, external urged other parties not to do deals with the Greens unless they rejected the policy.

Forming coalition deals with Greens at local or national level would be "failing to take antisemitism with the requisite seriousness", it said, unless the party's local leadership have rejected the policy and committed to overturn it.

"By adopting an antisemitic platform, the Green Party of England and Wales has become a racist party. We will treat it accordingly.

"No political party has the right to tell Jews that a central part of our identity, rooted in thousands of years of history, faith and peoplehood, is racist.

"The Green Party's policy brands much of our community, including our synagogues and communal organisations, with that slur. It gives prejudice against Jews a political licence.

"The Green Party's leadership must now take responsibility for reversing this policy and confronting the antisemitism it has legitimised."

Wabbajack · Yesterday 15:48

I love the idea that the Scottish Greens somehow get a say on Israel's Law of Return. It's like the Likud party having an official policy on the Scottish tax system or something.

I say this as someone who has voted Scottish Green before, back when they were less openly insane. I know that down south Labour councils are threatening to end power sharing arrangements with the Greens, I wonder if the same thing will happen in Scotland.

PurpleThistle7 · Yesterday 15:38

So is the idea that Hamas is actually the government of Palestine? And therefore subject to the same scrutiny of Netanyahu is for Israel? Cause the endless reminders that Hamas == Palestine while also being the elected representatives of Palestine while also being a terrorist group is super confusing.

I really hate the Green Party. Totally preoccupied on making friends with terrorists while potholes multiply and school violence (here! Right here! In this country!) is out of control and no one’s bins are ever picked up on the right date. All very difficult to figure out what they think their job is.

Neverstopwondering · Yesterday 15:19

Have seen many mumsnet posters in the last three years not only side on everything with Hamas. Quote without question their figures or properganda. Also a a fair few whist talking with them basically say Hitler was right about Jews without actually being honest and writing their real thoughts openly.

Not at all surprising some rather hateful people in political parties think the same way.

Twiglets1 · Yesterday 14:48

Fancy siding with Hamas and still thinking you are on the "right side".
