Did anyone watch her on bbc question time? She was spouting so much hatred. She is trying to rip apart this country. Divide and conquer. Honestly it’s really upsetting. I hate that our young people are watching this play out.

We shouldn't be using that kind of language about anyone. And yet it's all over the internet.

And on our streets every saturday...

Can't help thinking the court case going on today should give all of pause for thought about using hyperbolic, dehumanising language about politicians, especially online.

It’s interesting how for years now we have been asked to define our ethnicity on HR forms, and the “ progressive” narrative has been to endlessly divide people based on skin colour and culture, but when people do state exactly what they consider themselves to be it’s a “disgrace”.
Either ethnicity exists, and is important data used to classify people, or it ain’t.
You can’t have it both ways.

Araminta1004 · 09/10/2026 14:15

You would think that Reform have worked out by now that the general unease about impending WW3 and global challenges means most people prefer an outside enemy not internal fake ones. Maybe they need to redefine their bogeyman.

Araminta1004 · 09/10/2026 14:12

And there is also the Census every 10 years which adapts to changes after consultation with relevant groups. And people are again encouraged to be subjective and can express their own feelings if they think they aren’t in any of the listed categories. That is how we do it here.

How very tribal. I've watched the green party being cuckooed by antisemites and the general concensus has been, leave the party and start a new one, don't fight back. The extremists represent a very small minority but somehow the huge numbers of party members are helpless to resist them. That's the power of activism vs pacifism. It's what started the labour party, but it's not what the labour party is now.
39% turnout at the Holborn by-election. Hope it's a true reflection of what that constituency desires, because if they didn't vote they can't moan.
Now if a vote with a large turnout was ignored or overturned by parliament, you might wonder if your voice was actually being listened to by those elected to represent you, but that would never happen here, we're a democracy.

I hope you don't think I support the Greens. 🤣

There's nothing tribal about holding the opinion that Reform are a bunch of incompetent xenophobic corrupt opportunist grifters. It's just an opinion.

You are contradicting yourself though.

No, I am not.

People can describe their own ethnicity any way they want. Freedom and all that.

We collect ethnicity data in order to support resource allocation, because there are some links between ethnicity and risk factors for health conditions. Healthcare and all that.

The bridge is personal responsibility to describe one's ethnicity in such a way that is supports resource allocation for the benefit of oneself and others whilst also reconciling that to one's own perceptions. Common sense and all that.

I dug up the article I read in the summer on this matter. Here you go, as it presents the different sides.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3626n0lgj3o

Anyway, this is one person’s perspective but based on a poll:
“Katwala says that around 90% of people believe that if you are born in England, identify as English and are brought up in England then you are seen as English.
In the wake of the row over English identity, the group More in Common polled people in March 2025 on attitudes to this subject. The poll suggested that 74% of English people believe that someone can be English regardless of their skin colour or ethnic background.”

The deeply contentious debate around what it means to be English

The debate about English identity has been a perennial one but has now taken on a harder edge

She is, but not because of that. Choosing to join Reform is what did it for me.

There’s always someone who thinks the same in reverse. Idk why people ramp up rhetoric so much.

EasternStandard · 09/10/2026 12:48

Araminta1004 · 09/10/2026 12:22

Indians aren’t one ethnicity either by the way, far from it!

I think SB should self define but the word here feels at odds now. Who has an ethnicity? Is it just some groups?

pointythings · 09/10/2026 12:47

quantumbutterfly · 09/10/2026 12:36

I thought SB was doing that but apparently she's a disgrace to humanity.

So ethnicity is simply something you think you are?

Why have we been forced to count actual ethnicity for decades then?

I have already explained this. RTFT.

Araminta1004 · 09/10/2026 12:44

How is a baby born on English soil entitled to British citizenship by law “anyone from anywhere in the world”.

Please do explain because I cannot wait to hear the answer.

quantumbutterfly · 09/10/2026 12:38

Yellowshire · 09/10/2026 12:37

Oh, so there are actual ethnicities then? Just not for the English? We are simply a " thought" or a "feeling" anyone from anywhere in the world can think or feel?

That reminds me of an argument I've heard elsewhere.🤔

EasternStandard · 09/10/2026 12:38

quantumbutterfly · 09/10/2026 12:36

I thought SB was doing that but apparently she's a disgrace to humanity.

Yes it was the op and the abuse towards SB that’s followed that shows many are not ok with that.

We're not. We are being asked to accept that people are free to identify their ethnicity as they see fit. Ask yourself why this bothers you so much.

I thought SB was doing that but apparently she's a disgrace to humanity.

Yellowshire · 09/10/2026 12:34

Well it's really not working is it? The idea that "talking" about a "common value system" will unite millions of people from all over the world is bizzare. When is this going to start? Where is the money coming from to facilitate this enormous "talking"? Why are we expected to perform this duty when we have voted in governments to reduce immigration and as Badenoch told us this week, they were busy doing other things and didn't bother to notice the out of control visa system was being systematically exploited by millions.

The actual "white British" population is remarkably stable in numbers. The non stop hysteria about decline is simply massively over stated.

The mass importing of poverty from around the globe hasn't created "buy in and belonging" to anything other than the welfare state, that's an obvious truth.

It's certainly not the economic miracle that will "pay pensions" is it?

pointythings · 09/10/2026 12:26

Yellowshire · 09/10/2026 12:03

So why are we being bullied into pretending everyone is English?

We're not. We are being asked to accept that people are free to identify their ethnicity as they see fit. Ask yourself why this bothers you so much.

Araminta1004 · 09/10/2026 12:19

That is not what we are saying. Being “From England” aka born on English soil and growing up and being shaped there is enough to feel English, if you want to.
And there is a reason for that. We have tried to explain it!
There is a falling birth rate, nation states have lost control over capital and human labour, they need buy in and belonging from the entire population born here to compete against certain malignant superpowers. And they need the population here to be talking on the point that unite them in a common value system, not the opposite try to divide and conquer on petty things.
Hope that solves it for you.
