Did anyone watch her on bbc question time? She was spouting so much hatred. She is trying to rip apart this country. Divide and conquer. Honestly it’s really upsetting. I hate that our young people are watching this play out.

OP posts:

She is a rage politician though, she is also thick as mince. She hates people on benefits but that I find strange because why, she's a multi millionaire. Why do multi millionaires hate people on welfare.

Why are you changing the subject from what she said about her own ethnicity?

This is the issue OP started the thread about.

PacificDinner · 11/10/2026 22:29

If the BBC is so great, why must people be coerced into paying for it?

You may disagree with SB, but she is certainly not thick. I just looked up her bio: Cambridge, the Sorbonne, and then a barrister.

Yep agree on both. Thick seems the go to for online abuse for some female politicians, when clearly she’s not.

That's what I think.

Suella is entitled to her feelings re her own ethnicity.

Very harsh to call her " a disgrace to humanity" for verbalising it.

I don’t. I didn’t see this even. If you scroll back you’ll see it clearly. I looked up the dialogue online to see what the op was talking about.

Suella’s answers are easy to find. And no streaming non-live shows doesn’t require a licence which is what we watch. You should check your misinformation on that.

That's fine but the BBC is a lot more than news, it makes drama, produces educational content and has a huge impact on the economy, music....the list is endless.
People should be a lot more supportive of the BBC it gets a lot of stick but little credit for all the good they do.

Twiglets1 · 11/10/2026 13:59

EasternStandard · 11/10/2026 13:52

And none of this excuses abuse aimed at a female politician for saying how she feels. No one has to say English. Or they can say it. It’s an individual thing.

So there can still be an "English establishment" just no English ethnicity?

Seems like being "English" exists when it can be used to insult.

English “ethnicity” is separate from Englishness, the two can overlap. But the former is not a prerequisite to the latter.
And I am explaining the historic context of why you aren’t even going to get the Tories to ever agree to ethno nationalism.
It pays to understand English history fully, to read the Oxford university study on tracing the ethnicity back to see how it really is a mix, to see why even JRM says what he does and where the various Tories sit on the matter ideologically.

How can the two overlap if there is no such thing as English ethnicity?

I don’t think anyone is denying anyone anything. I think more likely that the actual English establishment remembers very clearly the disgrace of some who got themselves involved with the Nazis less than hundred years ago and that there is still some deep shame in some circles. And in fact, ethno nationalism has always been deeply unfashionable amongst the English.

So you watch the TV without a licence, I'm afraid the licence is a TV licence not a BBC licence. If you stream you still need a license.

I have just said I don’t watch it. But again yes I avoid it and can see why their viewing figures and licence fee numbers are plummeting.

I think statistics should be used with many caveats, and I think the teaching of statistics in schools needs to be radically improved.

Which crimes committed by men do you think the statistics are wrong about?

I agree with you on both. I don't actually think stats on violence by men should be banned or suppressed.

Certainly not on the grounds that the data 'creates division'. Ditto for immigrant crime or any other topic.

More data and more data literacy, regardless of which political positions that helps or hurts.

pointythings · 11/10/2026 11:30

GeneralPeter · 11/10/2026 11:24

Statistics are also used to argue all the so called crimes that men are more likely to commit. Even mainstream parties are happy to scapegoat men with rhetoric like 'male' violence against women. It's not exactly contributing to a healthy cohesive society.

Should those stats be banned?

Araminta1004 · 11/10/2026 11:30

Jude Bellingham is a much better role model for the next generation on questions of national identity and pride.

GeneralPeter · 11/10/2026 11:24

DebbieSavage · 11/10/2026 09:17

Well all these statistics seem to be used for is to argue all the so called crimes people of certain cultural backgrounds are more likely to commit, so I would say the data is not exactly contributing to a healthy cohesive society.

Anything that causes division should be banned and our history should be fortified to be more inclusive of communities that we have welcomed into our society. Being 'Anglo-Saxon' or whatever isn't relevant to our national story.

I saw the clip of SB on Question Time. I don’t think she was spouting hate or rage. Quite the opposite. She was showing appreciation towards the English and solidarity with them, while recognising that she has her own unique heritage and place within England tied to be a second generation immigrant who is part of the Indian diaspora.

It feels like people want to misrepresent her for their own political purposes.

Good point. I can also see why Labour politicians come out with self defeating and idiotic nonsense about black labs, pubs and the English countryside not existing. She’s probably surrounded by the same views as those lobbing abuse at SB for self identifying as she does.

Hard disagree there. If you start curbing people's freedoms to identify who they are, you're on a hiding to nowhere and playing into the hands of the far right. And it isn't just white people who use ethnicity to sow division - just look at the success of Narendra Modi in India. People are innately inclined to think in terms of 'them and us'. What matters is whether we allow that to affect how we run things, and the point is that we should not. Identify as you wish, but leave that out of politics because that's when you get deaths, deportations, remigration and all the other far right nonsense.

I hate the term 'unalived'. Pathetic Facebook euphemism.

The problem is that minority groups have been encouraged to celebrate their ethnicity but the English have been discouraged from doing so (white guilt, reparations for this and that etc). So that naturally and predictably cause resentment particularly amoung the poorer white working class who see minority groups being given advantages that they do not have eg positive discrimination. When everyone knows it wasnt race but class that is the divisive issue in the UK.

Its useful to know which cultures and backgrounds commit more crimes obviously. Because as the left always tell us, people need to "educate themselves" and the stats tell us which groups need more education about what is a crime and what is not.

Araminta1004 · 11/10/2026 10:24

The BBC is known worldwide and could commercialise itself more effectively in the future.

Araminta1004 · 11/10/2026 10:20

I doubt it is because people are making political statements - far more likely to be the substantial monthly cost and their viewing to be eg more Netflix orientated or DisneyPlus or whatever.

I don't see the BBC as rage bait, it's Question time where people get to ask questions....if someone spouts rage then at least you know where they stand.

Trump makes me angry but I think that's what he wants....so I turn him off. If the BBC makes you angry then turn it off better for your blood pressure.

I haven’t watched QT for years for good reason. It seems many others are the same. And the BBC generally. Perhaps they’ll learn why they’re losing viewers.
