Will there be a General Election before 2027?

As polls have tipped slightly in favour of Labour, will Andy Burnham call a general election before 2027? Kemi Badenoch thinks he might.

And Labour will lose a lot to reform.

Why? It might be wishful thinking but Reform appears to have peaked and tactical voting for “anyone but Reform” will be on steroids.

But I'm less optimistic than you are. I'm a staunch Remainer. The middle class, SE/London home owners demographics tend to be Remainers and liberals as well.

So when faced a choice of a chance of joining EU vs yet another tax hit, this choice will be very difficult for many.
So I want you to be correct with your fcst, but let's see.

Not sure. I was a remainer to the core but the thought of going through wrangling plus the euro issue isn’t looking that enticing.

Although with the performances of Truss and Reeves in recent years putting key parts of our economic policy into the hands of the ECB would be quite appealing!

I don't think that there will be. People were not voting Labour last time, they were voting against the Tories. Now Labour are in and are (so far) pretty terrible , I don't think they will vote the same way. Not unless there are some pretty extraordinary developments. I think there will be some kind of coalition I think if there was a vote now.

Yeah I knew he’d not take the risk too chicken shit. Too high a risk the public would boot them out. So not thank god for me,

My initial thoughts are that it’s the correct decision. However, if there a tax increases in the next budget, he might have to reconsider.

I'm the same. Not sure I'd vote to rejoin in a second referendum now.

I also think it’s the right decision. I’m glad he’s made a definite announcement. I hope it’ll mean we get a brief period at least with a bit more stability and some more thoughtful, pragmatic policy making rather than the more populist, knee jerk stuff you get in the run up to an election (from all parties TBF).

And we believe him. Because politicians are always honest and never u-turn.

But I'm happy if he sticks with this. Less than 3 years to wait then

I think people wouldn't welcome the alternative anyway. Who wants big business supporting con artists in the top job, funded by billionaires?

Calling a GE at the end of a five year term isn’t “clinging on”. It’s politics as it should be.

I’d be okay if it was not possible to call a general election within four years of being elected. Changing direction at regular short intervals is more likely to hinder, as opposed to improve, progress.
