Was anyone else at Snape Maltings today? Did Alan get his table?

Before I start I know it’s none of my business and I’m a bad person I’m sure but…

I was at Snape Maltings today which is a nice arts centre with a lovely shop selling all sorts of home wares and furniture. It’s very quiet and sedate.
Anyway, a woman started yelling at her husband. The whole place was pretending not to listen while giving each other looks. Turned out that he had ordered a perfectly innocent side table without talking to her about it first. She demanded that he cancel the order and he refused. He sat down on a sofa in the shop and she went and sat in the car. Every so often she’d come back and stick her head around the door, tell him the table was disgusting, and stomp back out.

When we left, Alan was still sat on the sofa. But I want to know how it ended. Are they still there now? Did Alan cancel the order?

Were any of you there?

I agree @FortuneFaded. Worst tables there by a long chalk.

Think of the dusting.

So, I went to Snape Maltings yesterday and looked out for the possible table. Quite a few side tables. I did wonder if it was this one?

Holy crap! Fugly tables. Look like a cross between a tin can lid and one of those candles that priests “accidentally fall on when they are putting up curtains” and then have to go to A&E. 🤣

LillyPJ · 07/09/2025 18:19

Wobbly impractical dust-collecting tables!

VanillaSugar2023 · 07/09/2025 18:18

Bloody hell, those tables are god awful.

If that's the table I'm switching allegiance to #teamAlan'swife.

Me too!

The top looks a bit wobbly to put a cup or a glass on.

@OneRedSquid , text your friend a wee reminder, we ( I ) NEED to know

angieb57 · 07/09/2025 09:26

I feel totally invested in Alan and need to know how this ends

OneRedSquid · 07/09/2025 09:15

I have a friend visiting SM later, she is well known there and going to ask what happened.

DingoWoodworm · 07/09/2025 08:18

This is the thread I’ve been waiting for.

Over to you Alan. 🎤

Is it worth organising a mumsnet coach trip from the south west of England to Snape Maltings?

There maybe many followers of Alan who would like to see the sacred Side Table and the couch where he rested.

I know someone who is going on a coach trip to said venue on Saturday. Not from the SW of England though.
I have asked them to enquire about Alan's table.

teacoffeeorpassthegin · 04/09/2025 21:34

@AuxArmesCitoyenshe is only 11 miles away from there so not far!

Also using that couple brings in the context of them always arguing and how Snape has brought them together

I like it!

If Snape does use this as their Christmas ad, please can they make a donation in lieu of the advertising agency fees to The Breck Foundation, thank you Snape management team. I know they don’t have to, but if they don’t, the army of Mumsnet (a collective of anonymous endless opinions and no mercy) may well be enraged! 😜

The Scarper thread, although I'm not sure if that made it to Classics.

Chemenger · 04/09/2025 14:29

“Cutted up pear” takes a lot of beating in Classics.

This thread is worthy of MN classics, though nothing beats the penis beaker thread.

I respectfully counter-suggest the Mumsnet Museum of Toddler Art thread as the ne plus ultra of Classics threads...

Enjoy! There are so many brilliant threads in there.

WolfinSheepsDress · 04/09/2025 11:07

Toby Jones is an excellent choice but I do believe it has to be the couple who are always arguing from Gavin and Stacey
Just them .

Oh my! I've gone all teary too 😢
And it's given my goosebumps....

You are very talented @FortuneFaded 👏

Alan has my heart, even if the table sounds horrendous 😆

It really gets you doesn't it!
