I am going to launch DP into the SUN for this.

Ten years. TEN YEARS of careful seasoning of my cast iron pan and he has "cleaned it". With wire wool.

After I pay Elon Musk to devise a trebuchet large enough to launch him directly into the Sun, does anyone have any advice as to whether this is even vaguely salvageable?

@FluffyWhiteBird my love, seasoned cast iron and/or carbon steel is used by every decent chef and in every restaurant the world over. The woks used for Chinese food are carbon steel and seasoned the same way as cast iron. If you think that any "germs" can survive being heated to approximately the temperature of the sun, well, perhaps your education is to blame.
Food is not left in the pans. What is left behind is polymerised oil - basically, it forms a hard, nonstick surface quite similar to teflon but without the fun carcinogens.

NotMyCat · 03/10/2021 23:11

@FluffyWhiteBird but you're not going to get ill of it! Everything is cooked and it's a high temperature and you wipe it out, you don't just leave it to fester
It's like letting tannin build up on a teapot

Duckypoohs · 03/10/2021 23:10

Are all scissors with orange handles the good ones? I have a little pair that are really sharp and good, best hide them.

FluffyWhiteBird · 03/10/2021 23:10

@Herecomesthesun70

What's this all about. I've never heard of such a thing. I feel like I'm not a real woman now
Whereas I'm reading this thread in horror at all the mofo's happy to eat from what is essentially a filthy pan that doesn't get touched by soap 😲 and is probably crawling with all the bacteria of everything that's ever been cooked in it. It's put me off eating in anyone else's home ever again 🤮 . It's up there with other crimes against humanity like putting toilet brushes in the dishwasher probably with the dishes .
BoomChicka · 03/10/2021 23:09

My people. My dp dropped my lasagne dish, the only lasagne dish in existence that neatly fit lasagne sheets without needing surgery. He didn't think this was a big deal and he'd just buy another. I currently have FOUR inadequate replacement lasagne dishes and now apparently I'm unreasonable for refusing to make lasagne ever again.

RantyAunty · 03/10/2021 23:06

The passive aggressive man ugh.

Burns the bottom of pans
Broke the handle off a very expensive hair brush
Posted one of my prize plants to an internet friend
Used my fabric scissors to trim his beard leaving the clippings all over the sink
Manages to break every one of my favourite cups

Byheckythump · 03/10/2021 23:06

Ps Sorry for your loss, OP

Byheckythump · 03/10/2021 23:05

They think they are the next Gordon Ramsey, but usually have the cooking skills and palate of a labrador.
Don't understand this thread but it was worth it for this Grin... suspect I may be in this category.

londonmummy1966 · 03/10/2021 23:00

He's now asking how to fix it

If he's old enough to trash a pan he's old enough to google how to fix it.

I feel your pain. DGM once scrubbed DM's beloved pan on the grounds she'd "never have allowed it to get that dirty"....... carving knives at dawn

BlackeyedSusan · 03/10/2021 22:59

My fabric scissors are hidden. I like the idea of a padlock though.

AdoraBell · 03/10/2021 22:55

Haven’t RTFT but I say he should use the pan to dig a decent whole under the patio for himself.

I've been reading the responses and his responses started with "mumsnet can fuck off" and as they've gone on hes getting more and more sheepish.

I have little pan on my lap.
I am pissing myself! I’m picturing you cradling the pan!

My DH has cast iron square things and recently, a large frying pan, which is often found ‘seasoning’ in the oven. Wtf??

mumwon · 03/10/2021 22:53

You can also murder someone with sharp shaft of ice (another murder story) & than, of course it melts so no evidence
My dh has a thing about fry pans we have a collections as he can't seem to resist them- his favourites are 2 tiny ones one of which is a square
he complains about me but we practically need a fry pan cupboard

IncyWincyGrownUp · 03/10/2021 22:53

A friend of mine now locks her fabric scissors together with a small padlock. Apparently having to deal with grumpy children and husband is much easier than dealing with fucked scissors.

saraclara · 03/10/2021 22:50

Did it used to be enamelled? Because if anyone scoured the enamel off my le creuset, the sun wouldn't be enough.

sashh · 03/10/2021 22:47

I'm going to set up a reeducation camp for those who don't respect pans, scissors or linen.

SprayedWithDettol · 03/10/2021 22:46

A spooner fucker is someone (bastard obviously) who interferes with another person’s cooking, without the cooks consent, usually to stir the saucepan and make ridiculous suggestions about the contents of said pan. They think they are the next Gordon Ramsey, but usually have the cooking skills and palate of a labrador.

Crinkle77 · 03/10/2021 22:43

I really couldn't get upset over a pan.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/10/2021 22:40

Thanks for the many lessons on cast iron pans. I don't use them because they are too heavy for me. But I would damn well care about someone else's stuff if they had told me.

So he just can't be arsed to listen and care about your stuff because it's not important enough to him. Ex was like this too. I used to tell him it was the equivalent of me cleaning his record collection with a Brillo pad.

SerenShine · 03/10/2021 22:36

Ah this thread has actually made me chuckle out loud.

I'm so sorry for your loss OP #RIPPan

Pinkyxx · 03/10/2021 22:34

If it's a Le Creuset style one, they can re-surface it for.

Yesitsbess · 03/10/2021 22:32

They're "just scissors" apparently.

I have bought 800 (approx) scissors for non-fabric purposes. Thankfully, my mother (professional costume person) reminded him of the death sentence I grew up under.

Orange handle? JUST DON'T TOUCH IT.

My. Fabric. Scissors.

Shall we just both launch him into the sun?
Ok, so I was following this thread with interest, not having cast iron pans myself. You learn something new every day.

But you got me at the scissors. He did WHAT?! under pain of death does anyone in my household touch my fabric scissors.

I was only mildly supportive up until now but your Fabric Scissors???? I mean, has he had enough of living? I suggest you make a poster of his face and the scissors, captioned with his crime, and display in all crafting emporia. You can make an equivalent for the assaulted pan, to be circulated to cookshops. "Do not let this man near this item..."

NotMyCat · 03/10/2021 22:27

@Yesitsbess it came from here

I have to stick a wooden spoon up dh's arse, don't I?
